Unit Bio:
Known as R9, this unit is comprised of 36-beds. 24 beds designated to acute care medical surgical acuity, with medical telemetry capabilities caring for a wide variety of adults with acute and chronic medical conditions. 12 beds designated to general intermediate care (IMC) acuity. Our department thrives on collaboration, where every team member's contribution is valued and respected. The friendly and approachable nature of our staff fosters a welcoming environment that encourages open communication and mutual support. We proudly promote inclusivity and a growth-oriented culture, made evident based on the number of travelers that have transitioned into permanent roles as well as C.N.A.'s who will be continuing their career on the unit as new RN's. Summary:

Care delivery and coordination of patient and family care begins with the initial contact with the health care system and may continue across the continuum. Services may be provided on an inpatient, outpatient, ambulatory, and/or community basis.
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
1. Education: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. A Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing is preferred.
2. License/Certifications: Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of Maine.
3. Experience: As this is an entry-level position, experience as an RN is not required. Med/surg experience preferred.
4. Basic knowledge of the research base, theory, practices, principles, and processes of professional nursing.
5. Interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and health care team members.
6. Analytical ability sufficient to identify changes in patients' conditions and to initiate appropriate action.
7. The Medical Surgical Department is a 45-bed unit where nurses provide care for individuals across the life span (pediatrics - geriatrics) who are experiencing illness or having surgery that is appropriately cared for in an acute community hospital setting. This includes caring for patients with stroke, sepsis, exacerbation of chronic conditions or post-operative patients as just a few examples. The Med-Surg at Pen Bay provides expert care to patients requiring telemetry, progressive care, palliative care, and hospice.
Summary:
Our nurse resident program is designed to support newly graduated registered nurses as they transition from a student to a confident competent health professional. This program combines hands-on clinical experience with education, mentorship and development. Residents work alongside experienced preceptors gaining exposure to the unit specialty while building strong clinical skills.
The Registered Nurse - New Graduate - Acute Care role is working progressively towards competency and independence in the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The New Graduate Program is intended to support the new graduate nurse in making the transition from student to competent clinical practitioner.
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
* Education: Graduate of accredited School of Nursing required; BSN preferred.
* License/Certifications: Current applicable state(s) license as a Registered Professional Nurse required. Current BLS certification required or must obtain within 30 days of start date.
