Principal Duties/Responsibilities:
· Performs expert level break-fix & preventative maintenance. This includes but is not limited to: observing devises in operation to locate root cause of problem; dismantling devices to gain access to and remove defective parts; examining parts to detect imperfections; adjustment of functional parts of devices and control instruments; repair and/or replacement of defective parts; testing of device to observe performance; and performing tests for electrical circuitry and mechanical systems; reconditioning and repairing machine tools.
· Identifies and sources parts, supplies and repair items as necessary. Performs evaluations of alternatives to improve cost and / or reliability of equipment.
· Independently performs maintenance as per industry standards.
· Works with Planner Scheduler to optimize preventative maintenance procedures.
· May be required to setup and operate multiple machining operations including but not limited to: lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts. May perform welding tasks.
· Complies with 5S and housekeeping standards.
· Leads, drives and participates in CI activities--processes, results and cost savings using CI tools and methodology.
· Provides assistance to lower level technicians and leadership to project teams. Performs expert functions as a part of training and development.
· Troubleshoots and analyzes complex control systems to resolve in-depth software/ hardware and configuration problems.
· Utilizes predictive maintenance technologies to collect equipment performance data. Observes trends and makes recommendations.
· Updates records and reviews CMMS history and analyzes data.
· Completes and conducts on-the-job training and technical self-study programs for career development.
· Follows all safety related policies, rules, regulations, technical instructions and guidelines. Situational awareness and identify unsafe behaviors and conditions.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, & Behaviors Required:
· High School Graduate or equivalent (GED).
· Associates degree with a Technical focus and 5 years of related experience in specific industry; or, 7 years of experience in specific industry.
· Experience in predictive technologies, precision alignments, and general maintenance of applicable process equipment.
· Understands electrical, mechanical, fluid power and control systems. Can analyze the problem, synthesize alternative solutions, and perform repairs.
· Must be able to use basic hand tools and specialized tools as appropriate.
· Experience in vibration analysis or laser interferometer operations, precision alignments, and maintenance of applicable process equipment.
· May be required to travel.

Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge:
Thorough knowledge of general gardening and grounds maintenance methods. General knowledge of proper methods of planting, cultivating, and caring for hedges, ornamental trees, shrubs, lawns, and flowers, and the use and care of gardening materials, tools, and equipment.
Abilities:
Ability to recognize the more common species of ornamental shrubs, trees and flowers grown in California; perform strenuous physical work as described in this classification; utilize mechanical aptitude and motor coordination; learn to skillfully operate small trucks and power-driven grounds equipment; read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position; and follow simple oral and written instructions.
Experience:
One year of experience in the care and maintenance of landscaped areas or in general grounds maintenance work, or in related manual labor.

The Department
The Public Works department is comprised of the Maintenance, Engineering and WQCP (Water Quality Control Plant) divisions. The Maintenance Division is responsible for all of the asphalt and concrete streets within the City as well as all of the associated signalized intersections, streetlights, road signs and traffic markings. The division also maintains the sanitary sewer/storm system which includes all of the sanitary sewer lines, all of the storm lines and catch basins, several storm water pump stations, as well as various large storm water trash capture devices throughout the City.
THE POSITION
Under close to general supervision, this hourly position is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the downtown corridor, including the removal of litter, debris, and illegal dumping. Duties are primarily driven by SeeClickFix service requests and may include other related maintenance and cleaning tasks as assigned.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will have experience with outdoor maintenance work and be familiar with basic tools, equipment, and safety practices related to cleaning and debris removal in public spaces. They will take pride in keeping high-visibility areas clean and welcoming, respond promptly to service requests (such as those submitted through SeeClickFix), and interact professionally with the public and City staff. Essential Functions/Responsibilities
Assist the Director of Facilities to budget, plan, schedule, coordinate and supervise capital expenditure projects
Train, lead, and coach maintenance employees.
Assume responsibility for implementing policies and procedures set by the SMCEC.
Execute plans of electrical wiring for lighting and electrical systems.
Install industrial wiring, electrical fixtures, power equipment, PLCs and transformers, distribution panels, and subpanels.
Install and connect power supply wiring, cables, conduit, PVC, rigid steel, and electrical controls for equipment.
Diagnose and solve problems in electrical circuits, systems, and equipment using the proper testing equipment.
Prevent breakdown of systems by routinely inspecting and replacing old wiring, cables, circuits, etc.
Perform effective troubleshooting to identify hazards or malfunctions and perform appropriate repairs.
Assist the Director of Facilities in assembling weekly and Periodic Summary Maintenance Reports and identifying and tracking trends to anticipate future projects and costs.
Provide feedback to management on specific maintenance and repair needs.
Work with the management team to maintain and facilitate effective training programs.
Assist with safety training programs. Educate staff on health and safety procedures and policies.
Be well-versed in Event Center emergency procedures and where all emergency shut-offs are located. Assist employees and guests when necessary in case of an emergency.
Ensure all required repairs and maintenance are performed on all equipment and assets as scheduled or requested by management. Such duties consist of Electrical systems, HVAC, plumbing, furniture/equipment replacement and/or repair, etc.
Ensure that all maintenance equipment operations and procedures are understood and performed safely in accordance with company guidelines and government regulations.
Assess the condition of the functional elements of all buildings and make recommendations for repair and improvement.
Document all findings and implement necessary repairs where applicable, including the purchasing of materials.
Prepare damage repair work orders per event and submit cost estimates to the Event Department for reimbursement.
Major role in display set/dismantle for the annual County Fair.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility
Exercise technical and functional supervision over other maintenance personnel as appropriate.
Qualifications
Extensive knowledge in the functional operation of a large facility, including HVAC, multi-phase power distribution systems, stand-by power generation systems, lighting systems and controls, communication and surveillance systems, fire suppression and life safety systems.
Knowledge and understanding of the National Electric Code (NEC) and the California Electric Code.
Must be able to read and understand blueprints and specifications, have excellent working knowledge of electrical circuits, control wiring, and PLCs.
Must have a working understanding of hand and power tools of the electrical trade.
Must possess electrical skills and experience, with a general knowledge of the following a plus: carpentry, plumbing, drywall/painting skills, and experience.
Knowledge of the safe operation of all pertinent equipment. Knowledge of pertinent local, state, and federal codes and safety regulations.

POSITION OBJECTIVE
The Maintenance Worker is the staff member that performs tasks that involve the facility physical plant, equipment and grounds maintenance. These duties encompass a variety of carpentry, electrical and environmental services assignments.
