Custodial Worker Schedule: Monday to Friday, 2:30 PM - 10:30 PM Reports to: Evening Manager
Role Overview:
We are seeking a reliable and dedicated Custodial Worker to join our facilities team. In this role, you will play an essential part in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Clean and sanitize restrooms, classrooms, offices, and common areas.
Sweep, mop, vacuum, and wax floors as needed.
Empty trash and recycling bins and dispose of waste properly.
Dust and wipe down surfaces, windows, and furniture.
Operate and maintain cleaning equipment, such as vacuums, floor buffers, and pressure washers.
Restock cleaning supplies and request additional inventory when needed.
Follow procedures for the proper use of chemicals and solutions for cleaning and use in equipment.
Shampoo and steam clean carpets and rugs.
Clean and polish furniture and fixtures.
Maintain the cleanliness of outdoor spaces, including trash pickup.
Report safety hazards, maintenance issues, or damages to the appropriate personnel.
Assist with setting up or taking down furniture and equipment for events or meetings.
Collaborate with other team members to ensure the facility operates efficiently.
Complete all other duties as assigned by the Evening Manager.
Qualifications and Requirements:
A willingness to learn new skills and adapt to various tasks.
Physical ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.

A valid driver's license is required.

As a custodian, you would be expected to:
clean buildings by manually sweeping and mopping surfaces; manually and mechanically scrubbing, stripping, waxing, vacuuming, extracting, shampooing, dusting, polishing, and buffing surfaces; foaming showers and restrooms; properly selecting and mixing cleaning chemicals; chemically sanitizing and disinfecting surfaces and fixtures, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:
Any combination of education, training, or related work experience that provides the knowledge and skills to accomplish the typical job duties listed.
Demonstration of good communication skills; read and write in English and understand oral and written instructions, including MSDS directions, chemical product labels, equipment manuals, work orders, and be able to carry out work orders as required.
Capable of learning how to operate equipment and learn various cleaning methods.
Ability to use all required safety and personal protective equipment (including respiratory protection).
Ability to work overtime as required and to respond to emergency calls after working hours.
Must have excellent attendance and work record; perform all work in strict accordance with accepted trade practices, code requirements, and all safety and good housekeeping requirements.
Must be highly reliable and capable of working independently and without full-time supervision.
Demonstration of customer service orientation with emphasis on positive attitude.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift or carry up to 60 pounds, in a range of motion from floor to overhead, and move heavy objects regularly;
Ability to push or pull using force up to 20 pounds constantly;
Ability to use arms and hands for simple grasping, pushing, or pulling frequently;
Ability to stand or walk 2 to 6 hours at one time per day, for a total of 6 to 8 hours per day;
Ability to bend, squat, kneel, climb, and reach or lift overhead occasionally;
Ability to climb stairs or ladders, work at varying heights, and work outdoors in a variety of environmental conditions;
Ability to work in multi-story buildings without elevators; transport and operate powered machines regularly.

Position Function:
Under the direct supervision of the Principal, Director of Facilities, and Business Manager, performs general cleaning and maintenance in school buildings and grounds; maintains equipment in functional condition; and provides cleaning and custodial assistance to students, teachers, visitors and others as necessary.
Performs related duties and general maintenance work as required on a part time basis.
Essential Functions:
Checks and secures building at beginning and end of shift for the purpose of ensuring the safety and cleanliness of the building.
Cleans rooms, hallways, cafeterias, restrooms, offices, stairways, and other areas of building according to school district standards.
Sweeps, mops, buffs, strips, and waxes floors.
Cleans rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and blinds.
Washes walls, ceilings, woodwork, windows, doors, and sills.
Removes graffiti, cleans glass areas.
Replaces light bulbs.
Sets up and breaks down chairs, tables and equipment in meeting rooms, and functional rooms.
Clears snow from entrances and walks, and spreads sand and ice melting chemicals.
Performs grounds-keeping duties, clears debris and maintains grounds.
Receives deliveries and assists in unloading trucks and storing supplies.
Delivers supplies and materials to classrooms, bathrooms and other areas of the building.
Empties wastebaskets; picks up and removes trash and assists in recycling program.
Additional Duties:
Performs general cleaning, and repair work, particularly during school vacations.
Assists parents and other visitors to school buildings with special events and programs.
Performs other related tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Equipment

Raritan Valley Community College is currently accepting resumes for a Part-Time Custodian.
Under supervision of the Custodial Services Manager, the Custodian will perform custodial services for campus buildings and grounds. This position is responsible for general housekeeping of the campus.
Essential Duties:
Performs a wide variety of routine cleaning duties in campus buildings and on campus grounds which include, sweeping, mopping, vacuum, cleaning, dusting tasks and labor.
Maintains restrooms which include cleaning of walls, sinks fixtures, toilets and mirrors. Replenishes towels, tissues and soap dispensers. Notifies Custodial Supervisor of paper and cleaning products inventory in writing.
Reports any damage, leaks, lighting or equipment malfunctions in the buildings or grounds to the Custodial Supervisor in writing.
Empty interior and exterior trash receptacles. Performs recycling duties as necessary. Remove trash from parking lots and grounds. Clean entrances to buildings. Includes debris at interior and exterior areas to buildings. Wash exterior windows.
Performs work assigned by the Custodial Supervisor which are associated with assisting staff with set ups of special events, furniture moves and college activities.
Clear snow and ice from entrance ways, walkways, and steps. Shovels or sweeps areas. Operates snow blowers and salt spreaders.
Attends and completes training and safety meetings.
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
6 months - 1 year of previous custodial experience.
Must be able to lift and carry at least 50 pounds.
Flexibility of schedule is imperative. Depending upon the nature of the work assignment, individual should be available to work any shift or day of the week.
Position requires individuals to work inside and outside and during inclement weather.
Preferred Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED.
