Role Overview :
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Design Engineer to support product engineering projects at our customer's Grand Rapids location. This role acts as a vital bridge between the engineering teams and the offshore delivery team, ensuring seamless coordination, technical excellence, and timely project execution.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop detailed 3D models, 2D drawings, BOMs, and assembly instructions using Creo and Windchill 11.
Analyze design feasibility considering functionality, manufacturability, cost, safety, and market needs.
Collaborate with customer engineering teams to gather requirements and propose innovative design solutions.
Refine designs based on prototype feedback and validation to meet Steelcase specifications.
Provide technical data through concept development, reverse engineering, and training.
Implement Creo Automation using Pro/PROGRAM and integrate with Windchill BOM structures.
Coordinate with cross-functional teams and vendors for prototype development and design validation.
Support offshore engineering teams with technical inputs and design clarifications.
Lead or participate in design reviews ensuring compliance with specifications and quality standards.
Drive initiatives in engineering release, tolerance stack-up analysis, cost reduction, and product testing.
Required Skills & Experience:
6-10 years of experience in Product Design & Engineering, preferably in furniture or mechanical product domains.
Proficiency in Creo Parametric, including Pro/PROGRAM automation, and Windchill PDM.
Strong knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and tolerance stack-up analysis.
Experience in BOM creation, design release, and engineering change management.
Familiarity with DFM/DFA, product feasibility, and cost optimization techniques.
Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
Proven ability to manage onsite-offshore coordination and deliver high-quality results.

Overview of this Position:

POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for the development, oversight and improvement of all manufacturing processes supporting our Spray Dry and Plasma Densification applications. Ensures that all processes accurately reflect the production practices, costing is adequate, and quality requirements meets or exceeds customer specifications. This position is considered a mid to senior level role and will require prior experience with leading and providing direction to other at all levels of the organization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop, document and oversee the manufacturing process for molybdenum and tungsten products in cooperation with manufacturing and quality control to ensure that all applicable standards are met or exceeded.
Evaluate new processes, manufacturing methods and equipment as required to improve process capabilities, material yields, and develop new products.
Provide technical support to customers and partner sites to define product/process requirements or troubleshoot existing materials or applications. Hands on with shop floor employees to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
Works in conjunction with quality control and quality assurance to resolve nonconforming material issues, customer complaints, complete and implement corrective and preventative action measures, perform FMEA or other analyses to support all quality initiatives.
Assists with providing direction and technical support and or training for production operations.
Supports supply chain to ensure proper material and production planning activities are in place.
Performs work under minimal supervision. Handles complex issues and problems and refers only the most complex issues to higher-level staff.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree in metallurgical or chemical engineering.
Prior experience with Thermal Spray Dry and Additive Manufacturing applications a plus.
Prior proven experience with project management and planning required.
5+ years' experience in a similar or related metals manufacturing environment.
Working knowledge of MRP/ERP planning tools.
Experience with SPC and Lean Manufacturing
Proficient in using MS Office software
Ability to communicate proficiently both orally and in writing using the English language
