We are seeking a CNC/Laser Programmer to join our Engineering team. This role is dedicated to programming and CAD/CAM support - not machine operation. The Programmer will be responsible for creating, optimizing, and maintaining programs and CAD files for CNC laser and fabrication equipment, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and manufacturability.
The ideal candidate has strong CAD/CAM expertise, experience in nesting and toolpath optimization, and a collaborative mindset to support both Engineering and Production.
Key Responsibilities
Develop CNC and laser programs from engineering drawings, CAD files, and product specifications.
Translate 2D/3D CAD drawings into optimized machine-readable formats (nesting, toolpath).
Create and maintain program libraries, ensuring version control and accuracy.
Optimize material utilization and reduce scrap through effective nesting strategies.
Partner with Engineering to improve manufacturability and standardize programming practices.
Collaborate with operators to troubleshoot issues, but remain engineering-focused (not machine operation).
Support introduction of new products and processes, ensuring smooth transition from design to production.
Maintain documentation of programming standards, CAD files, and procedures.
Contribute to continuous improvement and process optimization within fabrication operations.
Assist in equipment specification and evaluation during capital projects (when programming input is required).
Qualifications
3+ years of CNC/laser programming experience in a fabrication or sheet metal environment.
Proficiency with SigmaNest and AutoCAD required; familiarity with other CAM systems (e.g. CAMPlus, CAMProX, SheetCam) a plus.
Strong understanding of fabrication processes (cutting, bending, assembly).
Experience with nesting, toolpath optimization, and CAD file preparation.
Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and version control discipline.
Strong communication and collaboration skills across Engineering, Production, and Quality.
Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and process improvement methods preferred.
Exposure to PLC programming and robotics a plus but not required.

Job Purpose:

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job operates in a Shop floor with exposure to fumes, airborne particles, noise, vibration and moving mechanical parts. Note, personal protective equipment (PPE) is required when entering the plant to include ear plugs, safety glasses, and steel toe boots.

Job Summary: The CNC Tool Grinder/Programmer to produce premium quality, high precision, carbide cutting tools using ANCA tool grinding machines and programs. Will ensure proper set up machines, programming, tooling, and parts are machined in accordance with manufacturing standards and specifications.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Program, setup and operate machines to produce tools per product specifications.
Ensure product accuracy and uniformity throughout the manufacturing process creating consistent parts.
Read technical drawings/blueprints to develop custom programs for specialty tooling.
Provide general preventative maintenance to all machines.
Identify wheel wear on ALL wheel types
Create master programs for all standard and modified standard endmills.
Set-up, inspect, produce good first piece & run production on drills, keyway cutters, dovetail cutters & reamers.
Create programs and wheel offsets to drills, keyway cutters, dovetail cutters & reamers.
Create master programs for ANY cutting tool within software capabilities.
Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED);
6+ months industry related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education or experience.
Certification from a qualified training institution in the field of tool and cutter grinding is ideal but not required.
Vocational school or apprenticeship preferred.
Experience in operating and programming machines is preferred.
Experience with ANCA controls is preferred
Previous manufacturing experience is preferred but not required.
Previous 5-Axis CNC Setup / Operator experience is preferred
Required Skills/Abilities:
Outstanding mathematical skills including geometry and math conversions.
Excellent manual dexterity, accuracy and attention to detail.
Great verbal and written communication skills.
General cutting tool technical applications knowledge.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of standing with some lifting, bending, and twisting.
