Purpose To perform journey-level installation, retrofit, repair, and maintenance of electrical, instrumentation, and controls systems in an electrical generation and chill water production environment. Responsible for providing journey-level craftsmanship in the installation, retrofit, repair and maintenance of circuit breakers, motors, motor starters, VFD's, soft-starters, PLC/DCS systems, UPS systems, ATS's, lighting and other electrical, instrumentation and controls related items. Identifies and reports safety hazards, and corrects as necessary. Cleans and maintains all equipment and work areas. Ability to work on medium voltage equipment i.e. 4160 V and 12 kV, and perform Power Plant and Chilling Station switchgear maintenance and troubleshooting. Works around hazardous materials and in high temperature and loud environments. Keeps current on all changes to operating and maintenance procedures, new equipment and related systems. This is a swing shift position, 40 hour work week schedule; shift could be between 3:00pm and 1:30am Monday-Friday, hours to be discussed with supervisor. This position is required to occasionally work on-call. Additionally, this position is entitled to shift differential in the amount of $4,639 per year. Purpose Performs journey level work in the installation, maintenance, repair and service of electrical systems. Responsibilities Troubleshoots, maintains, repairs, installs and replaces building and equipment electrical and electronic systems and components rated up to 600 volts. Performs preventive maintenance utilizing multimeters and other specialty equipment to safely test, measure and then correct any observed deficiencies. Generates material lists and acquires materials for efficient work. Keeps accurate records of materials used and maintains daily time reports to efficiently complete work and document details of the functions performed. Assists with organizing and cleaning tasks. Performs electrical maintenance work in accordance with established safety procedures. Inspects the work of others for conformance with specifications, requirements, and compliance with applicable building and safety codes and regulations. Assists other team members in the accomplishment of shop goals related to key performance indicators. Provides timely and courteous customer service, keeps supervisors up to date on daily work order status to ensure clear, concise and necessary communication channels are maintained and customer expectations are met. Participates in the On-Call Program. Completes paperwork accurately and on a timely basis. Keeps accurate and up to date documentation of all systems. Required Qualifications High school graduation or GED. Three years of experience as a journey level electrician. Three years experience troubleshooting electrical systems. Journeyman electrical license from jurisdiction recognized by City of Austin. Demonstrate excellent communication skills. Demonstrated ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Preferred Qualifications Associate's Degree in a related field. Graduation from technical or vocational trade school. More than three years of journey-level experience. Licensed as a Master Electrician. Experience in another maintenance trade. Demonstrated stable work history. Experience at UT Austin or other higher education institution. Successful completion of the Leader Development Program.
