A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A MECHANIC As a Mechanic, you spend your day troubleshooting electrical systems on vehicles and performs required repairs. Your work typically involves repairing, adjusting brake, engine, electrical, fuel, hydraulic, transmission, ignition, air, exhaust, axle assemblies and related systems. Your job is essential to the city, and you perform ignition checks and charging systems for proper operation. You are constantly on your toes and ready for any new and unexpected challenges that may arise in the city. This can include maintaining records of services, time, and materials used in repairs of all city vehicles. When you are not out in the city, you generally maintain all vehicles in satisfactory condition to meet state inspection requirements, inventory of equipment, supplies/parts, and provides support equipment. You also ensure to provide emergency field assistance to disabled equipment and vehicles as needed. You enjoy being helpful and have no problem providing assistance and support to other divisions within the department as needed.
