Job Description Dining Mechanic I or II Dining Mechanics support BYU Food Services by maintaining, repairing, and installing dining and specialized equipment on campus. What qualifies you for this role: Required: Level I * Two years of refrigeration experience or a two-year refrigeration certification from a technical school and the ability to get the EPA Certification to be able to handle the various refrigerants we use on campus. * Have a basic skill level and understanding of refrigeration, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, welding food service equipment, ice machines, furnaces and sheet metal work. * The ability to maintain a good working relationship with all involved personnel, including treating others with respect and kindness. * Has a valid Utah Drivers' License * Has excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. Level II * In addition to level I requirements, five years of refrigeration, steam, flight, and regular dish machine experience. Level II also includes at least two years of management, mentoring, and training experience * Very experienced in HVAC diagnosis, repair and maintenance including furnaces, air conditioning, water heaters, refrigerators, gas, and electric ranges. Very experienced in the reading of blueprints both electrical and mechanical and excellence in troubleshooting and repair of foodservice equipment and refrigeration. Physical Exam and Lift Test Required Physical Effort Moderate - Physical effort represented by frequent handling of medium weight objects (approx. 20-50 lbs.) and materials, or use of medium weight hand tools. May require climbing and working from ladders or in awkward positions. Environment Periodic exposure to unfavorable conditions because of unavoidable need to be in variable temperatures or wet environments, etc. Hazards Moderate existing or potential hazards Physical Requirements * Works inside cabinets and other confined spaces up to 3 hours per day; gloves, a coat, and head protection are recommended for safety. * Works in freezer environments with temperatures around -20°F for approximately 40 minutes per day; appropriate cold-weather gear (gloves, coat, headgear) is required. * Uses ladders up to 16 feet about 1-hour per day; a safety harness is required when working above 6 feet. * Handles a large auger for 30 minutes to 1-hour, 2-3 times per week; face and hand protection is required. Duties and Responsibilities: * Visualize, fulfill, and implement the company vision and core values. * Perform duties of a mechanic class 2. * Direct the work of several projects. * Welding and fabrication. * Diagnose, rebuild, and repair vehicles and equipment; perform major engine and transmission repairs and replacements as well as electrical diagnosis. * Perform plant inspections, diagnose any problems, and perform plant maintenance, including electrical. * Complete major road calls and perform field repairs. * Perform inspections and preventive maintenance of vehicles and equipment. * Prepare and maintain records and reports. * Maintain tools as required to do the job. * Operate forklift. * Maintain insurable driving record. * Ensure a safe and healthful work environment at all time. Education and/or Experience: * High school diploma or general education degree (GED). * Three years journeyman experience and/or two year diesel mechanic certificate preferred. * Maintain a commercial driver's license (CDL) and department of transportation (DOT) medical card, preferred but not required.
