What this job involves: The Data Center Operations Engineer is responsible for operating and maintaining critical data center infrastructure, equipment, and systems. Delivery of best practice systems and problem resolution on all data center electrical and mechanical infrastructure (UPS, MV electrical systems, generators, cooling systems etc.). What your day-to-day will look like: Responsible for maintaining, monitoring, and performing preventive maintenance and continuous operation of all building systems to maintain 100% Up-time including: fire/life safety, mechanical systems such as (HVAC, chillers, crac, crah, plumbing, controls), electrical including emergency backup systems such as (lighting, UPS, ATS, STS, PDU, generators, primary switchgear, power distribution, transformers), and hot water systems. Monitors operation, adjusts, and maintains refrigeration, chilled water, and air conditioning equipment; boilers, and ventilating and water heaters; pumps, valves, piping, and filters; other mechanical and electrical equipment. Must record readings and make and adjust where necessary to ensure proper operation of equipment. Requires the ability to analyze the operation of various systems, determine the cause of any problems/malfunctions and take corrective action as required. Comply with departmental policy for the safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials. Maintains a clean and safe workplace. Learn and understand the data center site in-order to manage incidents and events that put the critical systems at risk. Work order management, including CMMS, Vendor Management, and Customer Facing Tickets. Understanding and complying with emergency escalation procedures. Work shifts to support 24×7 data center operation, and have flexibility in work hours to cover other shifts On call emergency support as required This position requires frequent walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, lifting, stooping, and working/extending overhead, including: Walking large, campus-like settings. Lifting a minimum of 50 lbs. Climbing stairs and navigating rooftops to access equipment. Using ladders up to 30 ft and working from heights. Ability to Climb a ladder with a 300-lb weight limit. The Operating Engineer will have a strong focus on operating, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing facility equipment on all systems. Individuals are expected to demonstrate technical expertise in one craft area (Electrical, HVAC, Piping/Plumbing, Central Utility Plant Operations) and be multi-skilled in others in order to successfully complete daily/weekly work assignments.
What your day-to-day will look like:
Maintain, monitor, and perform preventive maintenance and continuous operation of all building systems including: fire/life safety, mechanical (HVAC, plumbing, controls), electrical (lighting, primary switch gear), and hot water systems; monitors operation, adjusts, and maintains refrigeration, chilled water, reverse osmosis system, air compressor systems, and air conditioning equipment; and ventilating and hot water heaters; pumps, valves, piping and filters; other mechanical and electrical equipment; record readings and make adjustments where necessary to ensure proper operation of equipment.
Responsible for reporting any problems/malfunctions found while demonstrating the ability to analyze the operation of various systems, determine the cause of any problems/malfunctions and take corrective action as required to schedule the maintenance.
Comply with departmental policy for the safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
Responsible for overseeing the activities of contractors working within the building either as representatives of the building itself or clients operating within the buildings.
Responsible for keeping records of buildings rounds and readings, all engineering logs and engineering data sheets.
Responsible for informing contractors so that they are informed and knowledgeable with respects to the building's critical functions and the work they are to perform, including an incident contact response list.
Responsible for understanding and complying with emergency escalation procedures.
This position requires frequent walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, lifting, stooping, and working/extending overhead, including:
Lifting a minimum of 80 lbs.
Using ladders up to 30 ft and working from heights.
Climbing a ladder with a 300-lb weight limit while carrying a tool bag weighing approximately 20 lbs.
Required Skills and Experience:
High School diploma/GED required; military service, union training, vocational or college education is preferred.
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license
Must successfully pass background, drug/alcohol, and MVR screening process before beginning employment.
Three (3)+ years of relevant work experience, preventive & corrective maintenance of commercial buildings/equipment.
Must be located in Austin metro area (relocation assistance is not available for this role)
Need a strong expertise with MEP especially HVAC in a Commercial Real Estate environment
Strong experience with UPS's, Generators, Chillers, Boilers, and Lighting Systems Required
HVAC or Electrical certifications and licenses are desirable
Experience using Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) &/or Building Management System (BMS)
Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams)
Strong customer service skills
Must be able to respond and perform emergency repairs or preventative maintenance off hours as directed on nights and weekends.
