Lead Medical Technologist Department: Blood Bank Schedule: Full Time Assigned responsibilities: Reviews and evaluates daily and periodic Quality Control testing and procedures. Ensures performance of periodic instrument maintenance and departmental quality control procedures. Coordinates CAP survey performance and reporting. Assists with creation of validation plans as may be required for equipment or procedures, and ensures completion of validation package for final review. Performs Meditech validation exercises as may be required with system upgrades or site specific changes. Ensures department is prepared for planned Meditech downtime. Monitors transfusion activity at contracted transfusion service client sites for regulatory compliance; may be required to make periodic site visits. About the Elliot Hospital Laboratory: The Elliot Hospital Laboratory is a full service 24/7 operation. We are both CAP and AABB accredited. In addition to traditional inpatient and outpatient work, the laboratory supports a Level II trauma center, Level III NICU, High Risk Maternity unit, three urgent cares, two cancer centers, a community health center and approximately 60 nursing and assisted living facilities. Our yearly billable volume is approximately 1.6 million tests. In addition, our Blood bank is an American Red Cross Blood depot for the State of New Hampshire, supporting other hospital with urgent blood product needs. About the Job The Medical Lab Scientist/Medical Technologist work as part of the healthcare team to provide our patients with the best possible care. Specimen Preparation & Distribution: (a) Evaluates the specimen for sample integrity, any pretreatment and prepares solutions and reagents for use. Checks specimen integrity, and documents any pretreatment or any additional steps followed (e.g.: warming blood in case of agglutination) as needed to achieve appropriate outcome. b. Develops mechanisms to address requests for uncommon lab tests. c. When implementing new system, informs all the personnel involved of the process created. 4. Assessment: Completes the assessment of instrument and reagent function by (a) following QC/Calibration protocol, (b) recording and documenting the various steps, (c) performing daily/weekly maintenance as per department/manufacturers recommendations Ensures appropriate QC/Calibrations check as per CLIA standards by: a. documenting acceptable limits and identifying problem areas b. maintaining appropriate records of QC/remedial action performed c. communicating with the supervisor QC irregularities, as per protocol d. documenting all the maintenance procedures in a standardized format. 5. Planning & Performance of Tests: Performs tests with precision and accuracy. Knows critical values, verifies and records all test results before broadcasting and keeps inventory list updated. a.
