Position Summary This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center. It is expected that the employee demonstrate behavior consistent with our core values, support Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center's strategic plan and participate in and advocate performance improvement/patient safety activities. Under the general supervision of the supervisor or manager, the Transcriptionist will interpret and transcribe the dictation into diagnostic test results, operative reports, referral letters, and other documents with accuracy. Specifically this includes clinical courses, diagnosis, and prognosis in order to document patient care, facilitate delivery of healthcare services and comply with standards of documentation mandated by state and federal regulatory agencies and voluntary accrediting agencies. Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job 1. Transcribes medical dictation to provide a permanent record of patient care. 2. Operate designated word processing, dictation, transcription and other office equipment efficiently. 3. Answers inquiries from hospital personnel, medical staff, and co-workers concerning dictation status and/or transcribed reports. 4. Attend and actively participate in department specific education, training, in-services, process improvement initiatives and staff meetings. 5. Ensure compliance at all times with hospital and laboratory policies and procedures. 6. Proficient in the use of the current Laboratory Information System for data management and documentation activities. 7. Ability to be at work and be on time8. Ability to prioritize and multitask*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. Qualifications Minimum RequirementsQualifications/Work Experience: · Experience in Microsoft Office Word· Ability to type 75+ words per minute· Knowledge of hospital and laboratory operations preferred. · Minimum of three years' experience in typing reports in an acute care hospital. · Proficiency in pharmacology, anatomy, physiology and medical terminology. · Knowledge of current information system preferred.
