Works under the supervision of the Cardiology Supervisor/Director. Pre/Registers patient in Meditech obtaining accurate demographic information, personal documentation, valid written order and scans into or updates EMR accordingly. Ensures patient procedures are on appropriate schedules.
Performs e-sign and ensures COA and Facesheet transfers to Notes.
Provides patient with general procedure information/instructions, refers to clinical staff appropriately.
If appropriate, provides clinical staff with feedback regarding the patient's ability to ambulate.

Create, discuss, and obtain signatures on estimates and consents (CPR, DNR, Treatments, etc.) with owners. Prioritize patient care and client experience by providing gold standard treatment.
Support the front desk staff, answer incoming ER phone calls, obtain and attach patient records if not done so already, discharge patients when needed. Be a liaison between ER and front desk teams, including answering questions and handling patient related issues. Address client concerns professionally and respectfully.
Attend required staff meetings, department meetings, and training sessions. Follow hospital policies and OSHA safety standards. Support a collaborative and safe work environment and perform other duties as assigned to ensure high-quality patient care and smooth hospital operations.
Requirements:
5+ years ER experience preferred, minimum 2 years' experience in veterinary triage/critical care medicine
Proficiency in advanced veterinary knowledge including restraint, diagnostic imaging, phlebotomy, venipuncture, anesthesia induction, monitoring, fluid therapy, drug calculations, laboratory equipment and procedures, pharmacology, disease processes, etc. Ability to recognize a patient in critical condition (i.e. a STAT patient)
Experience as a receptionist or Client Service Representative preferred
Excellent communication skills and client services; the ability to multitask on the phone and computer. Effective communicator with clients in stressful/high emotion situations. Open to direct communication with the doctor on staff and support team.
The ability to adapt to high volume caseloads in regard to getting patients in for treatment and discharged post care. Efficient intake progression to keep the workflow of the emergency department flowing smoothly
Fluent English skills (speaking & reading) are required for the role; fluency in multiple languages a plus

About the Role

INTRODUCTION
Referral veterinary technicians are under the direct guidance and supervision of the doctor. Incumbents of this position are required to assist the practitioners to the fullest possible extent, to help improve the quality of care given to the patients of Santa Cruz Veterinary Hospital and to aid the practitioners in achieving greater efficiency by relieving them of technical work and administrative detail.
MAJOR DUTIES
* Review oncology schedule and set up procedures/appointments for that day.
* Help doctor administer chemotherapy; prepare patients for treatment; monitor patients during and after chemotherapy is administered; release patient to owner and educate clients as needed of home care procedures.
* Administer and monitor anesthesia to sometimes compromised patients; prepare and assist in surgical procedures; place IV catheters; administer fluids; recover patients post-op and properly turn patient over to ICU nurses as needed.
* Properly clean, pack and autoclave all surgical materials after they are used. Keep the operating room properly stocked and prepared for surgery.
* Keep accurate and timely charts of all patient progress and treatments. Enter all charges into the computer system, ensuring that the in-hospital tracking form is updated.
* Perform clinical laboratory procedures such as blood chemistries, CBC, IStat, electrolytes, heartworm checks, skin scrapings, urinalysis, fungal cultures, draw blood for laboratory analysis
* Take, process and submit all radiographs to VDIC for review.
* Admit and discharge patients on the doctor's orders, being especially careful to ensure that patients being discharged are well-groomed and in a medically appropriate state.
* Answer client questions one-on-one on various aspects of animal care up to, but not including, controversial items and/or those best left to the veterinarians.
* Pass on information/advice from the practitioners; explain dosage/purpose of medications; reinforce thorough discussion of the proper care and procedures that should be followed at home.
* Provide follow-up and updates on the progress of hospitalized patients with clients concerning certain patients; recommend additional visit and/or follow up with doctor's recommendation if patient's progress does not appear satisfactory.

CONTROLS OVER WORK
The practitioners provide continuing or individual assignments indicating generally what is to be done, limitations, quality and quantity expected, deadlines and priority of assignments. The practitioners provide additional, specific instructions for new, difficult or unusual assignments in animal health care, including suggested work methods or advice on source materials available. The referral technician uses initiative in carrying out recurring assignments independently without specific instructions, but refers deviations, problems, and unfamiliar situations not covered by instructions to the practitioner for decision or help. The practitioners assure that finished work and methods used are technically accurate and in compliance with instructions or established procedures. Review of the work increases with more difficult assignments, if the technician has not previously performed similar assignments. Administrative supervision may be provided by the Practice Manager and/ or Administrator.
ADVANCEMENT
Veterinary Technicians in this practice will be taught and trained to the limits of their potential. If, during training, an individual shows interest in a specific field, such as radiology or anesthesiology, continuing education in that field will be encouraged. What You'll Do as Medication Technician:
Administer medications accurately and in compliance with state regulations and community policies
Ensure care and services are provided in a safe, secure, and respectful environment for all residents
Verify weekly that self-administering residents are taking medications correctly and as prescribed
Review medication error reports, document appropriately, and obtain required staff signatures
Perform monthly audits of medication administration records and confirm resident understanding of self-medication when applicable
Follow individualized care or service plans to support each resident's health and wellness
Report discrepancies or concerns in care plans to the charge nurse or supervisor promptly
Provide basic assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), including grooming, hygiene, mobility, and meals
Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with community procedures and state/federal regulations
Promote a positive, home-like environment by treating residents with dignity, kindness, and respect
What We're Looking For:
High school diploma or GED
Some experience as a Medication technician
Intermediate computer skills
What We Prefer:
CPR certification
One year experience working as a Med Tech, Nursing Assistant or Certified Nursing Assistant in a long-term care setting
Medication Administration Training is preferred.

High school diploma or GED certificate
Experience in the medical field preferred but not required
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
I. Communication

II. Duties
A. Create and maintain pathology data entry and log sheets
B. Assemble information for reports and label cassettes and
slides as requested
C. Completes assigned workload within prescribed time limit
D. Troubleshoot clerical procedures to improve processes
E. Monitor supplies and order as needed
F. Review invoices to ensure accuracy
G. Ability to analyze, evaluate and solve procedural problems
H. Ability to work efficiently under pressure
I. Ability to set priorities and use good judgment
J. Maintain standard operating procedures for requirements of
position and ensure documentation of procedures remain
current and in a centralized location
K. Assists histotechnologist with slide preparation as directed
L. Assists with equipment maintenance as directed by the
histotechnologist
