    In an environment of continuous quality improvement, the Medical Technologist is responsible for performing specimen testing and operates various laboratory instruments and reports results to appropriate personnel. This position is also responsible for obtaining samples for analysis and oversees maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory instruments. Exhibits the MHS Standards of Excellence and exercises strict confidentiality at all times. Job Functions: Performs specimen testing (manual and automated) and operates various laboratory instruments. Obtains specimens for analysis in the hospital and at off-site locations. Oversees maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment and procedures. Performs Linearity, Calibrations, and Quality Control as required by instrument and accreditation guidelines. Performs all assigned Proficiency Testing in a timely manner. Reviews and signs all electronic document control records as assigned. Assists with lab clerical duties including recalling results, faxing reports, and calling of alert values to physicians. Properly documents and reports NCE investigation. Utilizes Meditech to create site batches for specimen transport. Directs and trains students and new lab employees in procedures and operation of instruments. Replenishes supplies and maintains adequate stock in working area. Under direction of the section supervisor, researches and evaluates new products, procedures, and equipment. Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary. Qualifications Minimum Education/Experience Required: Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science or appropriate related field required. Must be Board of Certification eligible, successful completion of the (ASCP) Board of Registry or other national certification preferred. Applicants with a minimum of 1 year internship/experience in an accredited hospital or successful completion of an MLT program with MT Board active licensure in accordance with the grandfathering of the National Registry Guidelines will be considered. When working at a West Virginia site, ASCP and/or National Board of Certification and a WV Medical Technologist and/or MLT license required. Exhibits the MHS Standards of Excellence and exercises strict confidentiality at all times. Job Functions: Receives Laboratory samples and checks them for order accuracy. Troubleshoots as needed. Utilizes the ability to prioritize STAT, urgent, timed and routine orders. Maintains/orders adequate stock of supplies. Utilizes the computer system that communicates between our outlying facilities and Meditech. Performs, orders and/or sends orders from the Atlas and Quest system to Meditech. Registers using short form and order appropriate tests. Labels, receives, centrifuges if needed, and aliquots tubes appropriately. Assists with lab clerical duties including recalling results, faxing reports, and calling of alert values to physicians. Evaluates specimen integrity before analysis. Properly documents and reports NCE investigation/incident reports. Assists with training new employees and students. Cleans lab equipment including centrifuges, counters, and printers. Utilizes Meditech to create site batches for specimen transport/order entry into Quest system. Retrieves specimens from the Laboratory Automated Specimen Transport Line. Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary. Qualifications Minimum Education/Experience Required: High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required Minimum of 1 year hospital phlebotomy experience preferred Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required - will obtain during hospital orientation Maintains compliance in RQI required. Assisting in administration of contrast media related to particular diagnostic procedures. Exhibits the MHS Standards of Excellence and exercises strict confidentiality at all times. Job Functions: Position patients; immobilize as necessary. Assist physician during angiographic and interventional procedures. Operate fluoroscopic equipment. Position patients for rapid sequence filming during contrast media administration. Set up sterile trays and other equipment practicing sterile technique. Assist physician during procedure to include handling of instruments, operating and monitoring equipment, calling out equipment readings; alerting physician to changes in patient condition. Scrub to assist with passage of catheters/guidewires. Load power injectors with contrast media; prepare for injection. Maintain studies within the Image archival system. Schedule patient procedures. Charge patients for procedures and supplies in EHR. Assist in orientation of new technologists; provide education and training to student technologists. Maintain patient records and statistical data. Coordinate scheduling and patient flow; coordinate procedure performance across different hospital divisions (anesthesia, radiology). Perform other related duties incidental to the work therein (patient transport, etc.) Maintain supply inventory; order supplies. Assist with training of new physicians. Assist radiologists with development of new protocols and imaging techniques that are unique to facility. Orient new technologists to these procedures. Monitor charging of procedures and supplies for division to ensure correctness. Monitor assigned inventory expiration dates. Maintain a par inventory of catheters, balloons, stents, guidewires, and miscellaneous kits under discretion of manager. Monitor inventory levels and par-levels. Maintains compliance in RQI. Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary. Qualifications Minimum Education/Experience Required: ARRT registered or registry eligible (equal to 2 years post high school) and licensed by the State of Ohio. Basic EKG Class within one year. Cardiac Interventional Radiography Certification (CIRC) or Vascular Interventional Radiography Certification within 2 years required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required - will obtain during hospital orientation. Special Knowledge, Skills, Training: Interpersonal and basic clerical skills and ability to follow instructions. Experience with angiography preferred.
