In an environment of continuous quality improvement, the Patient Care Technician is responsible for processing physician orders and records appropriate information. Assists the registered nurse and licensed practical nurse in the provision of patient care; maintains communications within and between nursing units. Advises hospital departments on patient activities. Exhibits the MHS Standards of Excellence and exercises strict confidentiality at all times.
Job Functions:
Performs hourly rounding.
Performs clerical functions including maintaining chart order, answering telephones, and entering of written physician's orders in Meditech.
Coordinates patient flow and flow of information in collaboration with the charge nurse to maintain communication between departments.
Assists with all aspects of patient care and non-patient care (i.e. cleanliness of unit, ordering of supplies) within their scope of practice as assigned by RN and documents in Meditech as appropriate.
Assists with patient/family teaching as appropriate.
Assists with the maintenance of supplies and equipment.
Enters daily outpatient and observation room charges.
Complies with all safety and infection control standards related to position.
Utilizes appropriate interpersonal communication which facilitates productive relationships with other team members.
Facilitates a positive and caring relationship with others by utilizing trust and mutual respect.
Establishes a therapeutic relationship between patient, family and self, based on empathy and trust.
Promotes a positive patient experience.
Seeks help from appropriate resources as needed.
Maintains current knowledge of and practices within the scope of hospital policies.
Maintains open lines of communication between self and professional staff.
Clarifies any unclear communication between members of the healthcare team.
Uses proper channels of authority in communicating information.
Assumes responsibility for own behavior.
Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.
Qualifications
Minimum Education/Experience Required:
High School Diploma or GED required.
Basic Life Support (BLS) required - will obtain during hospital orientation.
Maintains compliance in RQI required.
Special Knowledge, Skills, Training:
Interpersonal skills, clerical, numerical and manual dexterity, color vision and near visual acuity.
Proper lifting techniques and body mechanics.
Ability to read, write and do math as generally demonstrated by a high school diploma or GED.

The Float Certified Medical Assistant is able to demonstrate the knowledge, ability, and skills necessary to safely administer medications in the ambulatory care setting. Along with the providers and other clinical staff, this position also ensures the delivery of quality health care services to the ambulatory patient. Job Functions:
Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to contribute to a medical plan of care and assists with procedures as necessary for the care of the patient through knowledge of clinic policies and procedures.
Demonstrates knowledge of commonly prescribed medications, including administration techniques, action, dosage, and side effects.
Reconciles medications in the EMR with each patient encounter.
Perform medication order entry in EMR, per policy guidelines.
Administers provider ordered medications per policy guidelines.
With an appropriate provider order, submits prescriptions; new and refills, and ensures that all prescriptions are called, written, or sent electronically to the patient's pharmacy of choice; and documented in the patient medical record at the time of execution.
Identifies patient care problems through subjective and objective data collection and communicates them to the provider. Documents patient intake including vital statistics, verification of allergies, past history, updated medication list, and review of system findings as stated by patient or delegate. Performs assigned clinical procedures and treatments as ordered and within the appropriate function of the physician-validated skillset of the CMA with appropriate, timely documentation. Assists in patient education as needed.
Maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of care provided to patients by authenticating all entries in the medical records and maintains office records and logs as directed by the supervisor.
Collect specimens and appropriately fill out forms in accordance with department/unit standards.
Accurately and thoroughly scribes in real time: patient medical history and physical exam, procedures and treatments, patient education and instructions, test results, and physician diagnoses as directed, adhering to documentation requirements and scribing policies.
Performs front office duties as needed, such as receiving and directing phone calls to the appropriate person, performing patient-related scheduling activities for the providers, and handling payments on accounts and medical co-pays.
Demonstrates appropriate use of AIDET when registering patients.
Enters new patient data and/or verifies patient records are up-to-date, confirms the completeness of the electronic health record (EHR), makes changes as necessary, and completes an accurate registration.
Verifies insurance eligibility and benefits on each patient.
Collects out-of-pocket liabilities from patients upfront and applies and reconciles daily point-of-service cash reports.
Refers patient accounts to financial counselors when further explanation/education is needed regarding out-of-pocket liabilities, payment plans, etc.
Maintains compliance in RQI.
Assumes all other duties and responsibilities, as necessary.
Qualifications
Minimum Education/Experience Required:
High School Degree or GED required.
Completion of an accredited medical assistant program with an AAMA, RMA, or NHA certification or approved equivalent required.
Previous healthcare experience preferred.
BLS Certification required.
Special Knowledge, Skills, Training:
Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills in Microsoft Office applications.
Ability to perform clerical tasks, including ability to follow directions.

In an environment of continuous quality improvement, the Patient Sitter is responsible for providing support to the patient care team as well as directly attending to certain, specified needs of the patient. Provides constant observation and monitoring of assigned patients to ensure safety and prevention of injury. Exhibits the Standards of Excellence and exercises strict confidentiality at all times.
Job Functions:
Receives report from exiting patient care provider or RN including any patient specific behaviors to monitor.
Courteously greets patients, identifies self, and explains purpose.
Ensures patient's safety.
Observes and reports to the RN all patient concerns or changes in condition within their scope.
Promptly calls for assistance as needed.
May assist the nurse or patient care technician assigned to the patient with care.
Assists patient to restroom. Walks patient in corridor upon approval of the nurse. It is the responsibility of the nurse assigned to the patient to make sure that any equipment needed by the patient while ambulating is available and functioning appropriately.
Does not leave patient unless relieved by another staff member.
Notifies RN if tubes, IV, catheter, etc. become disconnected.
Reports defective equipment to charge nurse or RN assigned to patient.
Accompanies the patient to other areas of the Hospital for diagnostic tests or upon transfer to other units escorted by a nurse, transporter and/or patient care technician. It is the responsibility of the nurse assigned to the patient to make sure that any equipment needed by the patient while off the unit is available and functioning appropriately for the duration of the time that the patient is off the unit.
Transports lab specimens, patient equipment and patient belongings as required with the patient.
Keeps patient room neat and orderly.
Evaluates patient's environment for possible hazards and removes those hazards.
Washes hands before and after patient contact.
Follows isolation procedures according to the Infection Control Policy.
Demonstrates understanding of the use of unit technology i.e. call systems, bed controls and TV controls.
Maintains confidentiality.
Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Reports to job as scheduled.
Follows all standard safety precautions.
Follows the standards of conduct and policies and procedures of Marietta Memorial Health System and applicable laws and regulations and reports violations through the appropriate chain of command.
Annually completes required competency assessments.
Utilize appropriate measures to promote and maintain patient safety.
Makes decisions which include using the age of the patients treated when appropriate.
Demonstrates knowledge of operation to include but not limited to the required unit specific equipment/procedures.

Assists Central Transport staff when available with various functions: transporting patients within the hospital, assists patients in and out of vehicles, lifting patients on/off beds, and moving them from location to location; comforting patients and their families, being punctual and attentive to schedules, and demonstrating sensitivity; transporting equipment and supplies and delivering them to treatment areas; and transporting specimens and deceased patients, as needed.
