Job Description:
We are currently seeking a professional mentor for our Childhood program (Kindergarten to 5th Grade) to serve as a positive adult role model to eight elementary children and develop loving, caring, and sustained relationships with each child. For each child, a Professional Mentor will set positive expectations; nurture and promote each child's strength, talents, and abilities; help ensure physical and emotional well-being; teach life and academic skills; provide enrichment activities; and model responsible behavior. A Professional Mentor will fully document activities and participate in the ongoing evaluation process. Professional Mentors will work primarily one-on-one with their children, while also building trusting supportive relationships with parents/caregivers. A Professional Mentor must know, understand, honor, and support the organization's mission, vision, values, and principles, and be able to clearly articulate the organization's function.
Essential responsibilities:
* Develop and sustain a long-term, caring, protective, and loving relationship with each child.
* Spend time with children, one-on-one.
* Partner with parents/caregivers to provide concrete and social emotional supports for the family.
* Set realistic expectations and goals based on each child's strengths, talents, abilities, and needs.
* Teach life skills and help develop a talent/skill/area of interest with each child.
* Provide enrichment resources and activities that include opportunities for identity development.
* Develop positive relationships with families, teachers, and others involved in each child's life.
* Reinforce basic academic skills.
* Maintain a 40-hour work schedule that includes afternoons, evenings, and weekends (normal working days are Tuesday through Saturday with Sundays and Mondays off).
* Maintain spending within budgetary guidelines.
* Complete, distribute, and collect time summaries, activity journals, short-term plans, expense reports, and evaluations materials accurately and in a timely manner.
* Attend and actively participate in team meeting and staff functions.
* Maintain First Aid/CPR certification.
* Transport children in personal vehicle as required for mentoring activities.
* Provide information and support to the development and executive team on related activities.
* Fulfill other responsibilities as requested.
The ideal candidate will have the following Education, Experience, and Abilities:
* Associate degree, Bachelor's degree preferred; Alternatively, at least seven years' progressive experience working with children and families will be considered in lieu of a college degree
* Experience with reading literacy coaching/training is a plus
* Willingness to commit for a minimum of three years.
* Advocate to secure additional resources, opportunities, and services for youth as appropriate
* Assist with systems navigation in schools to secure conditions for optimal academic success
* Strong interpersonal skills
* Demonstrated ability to work with children in varied capacities and settings
* Ability to develop trusting relationships with children, families, teachers, and others involved in each child's life
* Ability to work independently and as a team player
* Ability to manage several concurrent issues and solve problems effectively

We have a four(4) step interview process that includes: 1-A phone screening from HR, 2-An interview with our Program Director(PD) and Program Manager(PM), 3- A panel interview to include the Executive Director and a staff person from our National office and 4- An observation with you and one of the children in our program engaging in a fun activity, which you will select from some options shared by our PD. A full background screen including a drug test will be performed.

This is a full-time position. Due to the nature of a Professional Mentors role, the work hours are non-traditional, and include late afternoon, evening, and weekend work. We recognize that each Professional Mentors daily work schedule will vary due to the uniqueness of the role and the needs of the individual children being served. Each
Professional Mentor is expected to exercise appropriate discretion in this regard. The Program requires that you see each of your assigned children both in and outside of school on both weekday and weekends, for an average of four hours each week, although how you accomplish that is at your discretion within established Program guidelines. Our Program team alternates between two schedules throughout the year.
School Year Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday 11AM-7PM
Summer Schedule: Monday - Friday 9AM-5PM

The role of a veteran mentor is to provide support and guidance to veteran defendants as they progress through Veteran Treatment Court (VTC). The mentor is a role unique to VTCS as they are private citizen volunteers matched with defendants based on their branch, era, rank, and combat exposure. Mentors are critical to the success of this program; unless we have a mentor for each participant we cannot accept new participants in the program.

Be an honorably discharged veteran of one of the branches of the United States Military (including guard and reserve branches).

Maintain confidentiality regarding a defendant's case and personal information.
Duties:

Harbor is seeking a contingent Youth Mentor in Toledo. The individual will be a currently competent mental health provider who provides vocational rehabilitation services as well as job coaching services to Jobs and Family Services referrals.
Position is contingent - may work up to 40 hours per week in the summer, but fewer than 20 during the school year.
Education/Experience/Other Requirements:
Minimum of a High School Diploma/GED equivalent required. Bachelor's degree or teaching/training experience preferred.
Two years teaching/training experience required
Must be proficient and accurate in computer use, including Microsoft Word.
Must have a valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and show proof of personal auto insurance policy to be deemed insurable with Harbor's vehicle insurance carrier.
CPR/First Aid Certification required within 90 days of employment.
Essential Job Competencies/Primary Duties:
DOCUMENTATION
Responsible for the quality and completeness of the electronic record.
Responsible for accurate and timely documentation which includes, but is not limited to: progress notes, time sheets, ROAR's, Monthly Participant Evaluations, Corrective Action Plans, job coaching plans, iWAM alerts, Incident Report forms and any other forms necessary to document coaching and tutoring
Types documentation in the format appropriate and acceptable to Harbor.
Maintains active communication with funding source, case managers, and supervisor regarding client progress.
EVALUATION
Provides Job Coaching, Tutoring, Career Club, Job Seeking Skills Training (JSST), and/or job development activities for youth.
Evaluates work site for appropriateness for participant placement (e.g., safety, supervision availability, enough work to keep participants busy, etc.).
Ongoing evaluation of worksite to ensure that business is continuing to meet its responsibility and program requirements.
Analyzes job duties and work environments at worksites; breaks down jobs into trainable steps for client.
Evaluates worksite/employee job match and may complete worksite job analysis.
Assesses client readiness for employment and formulates appropriate interventions to assist the client in making progress towards setting and achieving their employment goals.
Assists the client in identifying his/her interests, skills, and aptitudes to assist in exploring possible vocational choices.
May assists the client in gaining information on the effects of employment on entitlements / financial assistance that the client may be receiving (i.e., SSI/SSDI, Medicaid, Medicare, Section 8, Food Stamps) to assist the client in making an informed choice.
ONGOING INTERVENTIONS
Provides individual and/or group job coaching or lessons at work site or after school program site.
Assists the client in developing employment opportunities as well as the skills to select, obtain, and maintain jobs.
Performs necessary outreach to engage clients in vocational services as needed
Consults with supervisor regarding appropriate referrals for client to vocational or community programs/services
Provides support, education (i.e., benefits counseling, risks and benefits of employment, and job seeking skills) and consultation to clients, families, and/or significant others.
Actively develops employment opportunities and assists clients in learning job skills as needed, individually or in groups.
Performs community outreach for the purpose of client engagement, and necessary support services.
Provides coaching and mentoring assistance as needed for the purpose of maintaining and retaining employment.
Provides support to participants to assist them in problem solving and managing barriers to client participation and/or employment (e.g., linking with childcare resources, health care resources, transportation, etc.).
Utilizes effective tutoring techniques to assist clients to increase basic skills or complete school assignments.
Keeps current with trends and developments related to essential job competencies and demonstrates continued growth.
COLLABORATION
Assists the client and family in increasing social support skills and networks.
Coordinates evaluations and assessments by internal and/or external providers.
Monitors all services identified in the referral, or IOP.
Provides assistance in gaining access to essential community resources and linking with appropriate vocational resources (OOD, ODJFS, BWC, etc.).
