Job Purpose The SBA Credit Manager is responsible for overseeing the underwriting and credit analysis of SBA (Small Business Administration) loan applications in accordance with internal credit policies and SBA Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). This role ensures the accurate assessment of credit risk, proper structuring of loans, and preparation of compliant credit memos to support sound lending decisions. The SBA Credit Manager plays a key leadership role in guiding credit underwriters, collaborating with sales and operations teams, and maintaining loan portfolio quality. Duties and Responsibilities Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of the SBA and USDA lending programs, their respective Standard Operating Procedures, and other government guaranty programs as deemed necessary. • Prepare financial spreads, projections, cash flow worksheets and risk rating matrixes. • Analyze financial statement trends appropriate to the type of borrower and/or guarantor along with management, industry and market risk in order to fully vet the risk in the credit. • Analyze proposed structure of credit for credit risk, SBA eligibility and compliance. • Work closely with Relationship Managers and directly with Borrowers throughout underwriting, working in both advisory and supportive capacities as appropriate. • Articulate the key financial trends, borrower, guarantor, and global cash flows along with the key non-financial risks of the credit request to meet the Bank's and government program requirements; must be able to present this information in a well-organized narrative credit analysis with little to no guidance necessary. • Manage loan workflow if LSP is utilized in the underwriting of loans. • Has skill set to recognize the depth of underwriting required for the complexity and/or type of request. • Ability to complete an eligibility review and sign off on government guaranteed credits. • Assist draft and complete responses to Screen-Outs. • Maintain risk rating and ongoing monitoring as needed to successfully manage ongoing credit and operational risk going forward. • Serve as a resource in terms of answering questions and/or a general sounding board on the SBA and USDA lending programs as needed. • Complete Annual Reviews and Servicing Actions per Bank and SBA/USDA policies and procedures, reassess risk grades, and perform ongoing monitoring. • Maintain confidentiality and security of sensitive information. • Perform other such duties as assigned to role. Qualifications • Preferred bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or equivalent experience. • Demonstrated success with team leadership, including the ability to work with virtual teams across multiple areas required • 3+ years' experience in SBA Loan Underwriting and 5+ years in Banking. • Experience in commercial loan documentation and portfolio management is highly desired. • Excellent understanding of consumer and commercial loan products, functions, policies, and procedures, as well as documentation required by bank policy, state, and federal regulations • Excellent understanding of core systems and other software used by the department or comparable technology solutions • Excellent communication and presentation skills with strong interpersonal and organizational skills • Promote a positive and cohesive environment across all units within credit and partner teams • Must possess strong customer service aptitude with the ability to resolve problems and escalated issues • Excellent organizational, time management and analytical skills • Ability to learn new technology, embrace change and lead others to adapt to new and efficient processes • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills; must be able to effectively communicate with bank personnel of all levels, bank clients, auditors, and outside vendors, including the ability to influence and lead a diverse group of teammates • Experience with training and motivating others, including coaching, knowledge share, mentoring, delegation, and apprenticing • Excellent computer skills relevant to Microsoft Office Suites (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook) Working Conditions • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to remain in a stationary position, primarily at a desk. The work environment is typically located indoors but may have infrequent occasion to work outdoors. • Forty (40) hours per week, Monday through Friday. Overtime or extended hours occasionally. • Offsite training or conferences may be necessary, with the possibility of overnight travel. • The employee frequently exchanges information with others and must be able to do so in an effective manner. The analyst uses tools such as financial models, credit reports and key ratios to prepare appraisals which are provided for purposes of loan review and approval, as well as to determine terms of the loan. The incumbent will: Assist in updating electronic credit files by imaging related loan and financial documents Assist in conducting financial analysis and underwriting of credit for new loan requests and loan maturities Contact Loan Officers to request necessary financial information for analysis such as balance sheets, tax returns and financial statements Assist in determining the strength and/or weakness of the client's credit to determine the terms of the loan Run reports that show past or current maturities and request necessary information Generate and compile various monthly reports including but not limited to past due loans, maturing loans, collateral exception reports, outstanding appraisal fees, loan type summaries and internal credit administration auditing Note: Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable otherwise qualified associates/applicants with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
