Responsibilities
Position Summary
A Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) performs a variety of dental assisting duties, within compliance of state regulations, to promote quality dental care for patients in a reduced stress, comfortable environment. An RDA assists the doctor, teaches patients how to care for their teeth, communicates effectively with patients, maintains equipment and inventory, and follows universal precautions and all OSHA and MIOSHA requirements to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff. As part of the overall clinic team the RDA will assist all other staff members as required and available with their duties.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
* Assist the doctor during treatment
* Prepare patients for treatment
* Take and develop x-rays
* Take diagnostic impressions
* Perform instrument sterilization and infection control
* Dental polishing and restoration placement
* Clean and stock operatory
* Control inventory of clinical supplies
* Fabricate provisional restorations
* Inventory control of laboratory cases
* Make clinical notes regarding patient treatment
* Place and remove rubber dams
* Apply sealants
* Remove sutures
* Place amalgam restorations
* Takes final impression for indirect restorations

Records and attaches required information to consent forms. Schedules appointments. Scans all required documents into appropriate patient record. Responsible for acquiring patient financial information and collecting payment. Accurately performs income determination and completes applicable forms. Verifies insurance eligibility. * Assists with clerical workflow within the dental bus, during high-volume times or in the absence of the Dental Clerk/Driver. Assists with conducting interactive educational oral health instruction within the classroom, or group setting, focusing on educating students and encouraging program participation.
* Provides professional, detailed verbal and written communication to patients, guardians, and coworkers. Answers telephones; assists caller by answering diverse questions, including account inquiries. Tracks referrals by making follow-up phone calls to patients or guardians. Assists with patient flow and schedules medical appointments, while using department approved scripting to communicate effectively and consistently with patients.
Responsible for collecting payments and issuing receipts to patients. Tallies receipts and monies at the end of the shift. Understands and complies with the Center's policies governing cash receipts and balance sheet requirements.
Maintains confidentiality and complies to HIPAA regulations in written and oral situations
Oversees the patient waiting area, coordinates patient movement, and reports problems or irregularities to the Manager or other appropriate managers and directors.
Participates in the employee scheduling rotation process in order to provide proper, weekend and evening coverage of the front desk and call center functions.

* Explains Family Health Center's regulations regarding payment of accounts.
* Assists with patient flow and schedules medical appointments, while using department approved scripting to communicate effectively and consistently with patients.
* Responsible for collecting payments and issuing receipts to patients. Tallies receipts and monies at the end of the shift. Understands and complies with the Center's policies governing cash receipts and balance sheet requirements.
* Maintains confidentiality and complies to HIPAA regulations in written and oral situations
* Oversees the patient waiting area, coordinates patient movement, and reports problems or irregularities to the Manager or other appropriate managers and directors.
* Participates in the employee scheduling rotation process in order to provide proper, weekend and evening coverage of the front desk and call center functions.
* When applicable, the Customer Experience Technician will provide center-wide translation assistance for the Center's non-English speaking patients
* Other duties as assigned.

* Bilingual (English and Spanish) desired.

Working under provider's direction provides general nursing functions for the practice. Records vital signs, immunizations, provides initial patient assessment, obtains concise patient history, and provides various clinical information and support to providers. Processes and posts information to patient's chart, educates patients and families regarding medications, treatments and care, and referrals. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.

MUST MEET ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:
Successful completion of an accredited medical assistant program
CMA/CCMA/RMA certified
Meet eligibility requirements to take CMA/RMA and must be obtained within 6 months of hire
Note: Vocational Coordinator to determine eligibility requirements for CMA or RMA within 6 months.
BLS certification is required within 90 days of hire/transfer.
Knowledge of clinical skills as required with Medical Assistant Certification/Registration.

Work which produces high levels of mental/visual fatigue, e.g., interactive and repetitive or small detailed work requiring alertness and concentration for sustained periods of time, the operation of and full attention to a personal computer or CRT between 40 and 70 percent of the time. Involves considerable standing or walking, regular lifting of light-weight objects (i.e., 20 pounds or less) and assisting with heavier tasks such as assisting in lifting and moving patients. Minor straining or fatiguing positions must be assumed, and some fatiguing physical motions are required.
Prepares patient for examination including patient assessment, histories, vital signs, medication reconciliation, and routine testing of hearing, vision or other.
Document pertinent information in chart.
Maintains documentation standards and reviews chart prior to appointment to assure requests and documents are in place.
Administer treatments as requested by the physician.
Obtain specimens for urine testing, phlebotomy, etc.
Performs laboratory tests as directed by the physician.
Accurately documents required information in patient charts.
Set up and assist physician with procedures (laceration repair, pap/pelvic, etc.).
Schedule outside tests or procedures for patients in other departments of facilities such as x-ray, MRI, etc.
Prepares patients for tests/procedures by providing appropriate instructions.
Coordinate admissions, referrals, call in prescriptions, etc.
Stock exam rooms with supplies as needed.
Conduct day to day inventory of supplies and report items to be ordered.
Assist in the scheduling of appointments in EMR system as required.
Able to screen calls and determine urgency, necessity of appointments or whether phone advice is sufficient.
Assists in completion of misc. patient forms (Worker Compensation, Disability, etc.)
Attend staff, educational or other meetings as required.
Performs other related duties as assigned by nurses, practice manager, or physician.
