Position Summary
Provides patient care for ill and injured animals in the Large Animal Anesthesia Department of the Veterinary Medical Center. The Large Animal Anesthesia Department work's with a variety of large animal species including equine, porcine, caprine, ovine and more. This position will utilize LVTs or LVN's for their technical abilities and knowledge acquired through school. Some job responsibilities include techniques related to performing anesthesia (IVC placement, Intubation, Monitoring, Medication Injection, and Recovery). Along with pre & post operative patient care on a variety of species while instructing and demonstrating these techniques to students. This position will also maintain supplies, equipment, and cleanliness of the large animal anesthesia office and prep hospital areas.
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge normally acquired in the first two or three years in college, technical or vocational school in Veterinary Technology; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in extensive patient care, surgery, anesthesia, drug dosing, and sterilization; experience in the use of spreadsheet and word processing software. May require experience in a veterinary hospital research setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; licensed as a Veterinary Technician with the State of Michigan or attainment of such certification within one year from date of employment.
Desired Qualifications
Experience as a veterinary technician in an educational setting. Experience in extensive patient care, emergency/critical care, surgery, anesthesia, drug-dosing, and sterile techniques. Experience in electronic medical records software or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities*

Our faculty clinicians and LVTs mentor veterinary students and interns as they deliver top-quality care in shelter, clinical, and community settings. The LVT team provides surgical and technical support for high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter (HQHVSN), soft tissue, and dental procedures, as well as other essential services. Through our accessible care programs, we also offer low-cost preventive care and treatment for minor illnesses and injuries.
MSMP LVTs use their full skill set, one day assisting in surgery, the next working directly with clients, all in a supportive teaching environment. We're looking for a motivated professional with the vision and drive to help lead and grow this new program in alignment with Cornell's core values.

We are seeking a Licensed Veterinary Technician who will be responsible for patient care and client support for the Sports Medicine & Physical Rehabilitation Service (SMPR).
The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Assisting veterinarians with the preparation and management of service flow
Client interaction, which includes handling, monitoring, and discharging patients.
Provide instruction to veterinary students, interns and occasionally residents, in technical skills and procedures.
Serve as a liaison between nursing staff, students, and clinicians
Coordinate patient flow, assuring cases receive efficient, quality care throughout their entire visit.
Assist with scheduling, set-up and completion of all nursing care and procedures needed by patients using auxiliary services throughout CUHA.
Employees working in the laboratory must receive the pre-exposure rabies prophylaxis vaccination series prior to or immediately after hire, which will be paid for by the department.
Required Qualifications
Associate's degree in Veterinary Technology from an AVMA/CVTEA accredited institution approved by the NYS Department of Education with at least 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
NYS licensure or eligibility to be licensed.
Knowledge of basic infection control practices and the ability to adhere to and enforce those practices.
Experience in the use of various disinfectants and proper procedures.
Must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment.
Must communicate well with others in a timely and professional manner
Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced and often demanding environment, while paying close attention to details and demonstrating a high level of initiative.
Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position including the ability to move/lift 50 lbs. or more with assistance, the ability to stand for extended periods of time, as well as the ability to kneel and remain in a steady position during procedures or treatment of animals.
Preferred Qualifications
Two or more years of experience as a licensed veterinary technician, familiar with sports medicine and physical rehabilitation.

Works closely with the surgeons, anesthesiology, imaging and other members of the surgical team to provide a safe comfortable environment where the patient receives the highest standard of care

Ensures that patient charges entered in the Hospital's Information System are complete and accurate.

Required Qualifications

Able to work with multiple large animal species, not limited to equine and bovine.

Maddie's Shelter Medicine Program (MSMP) is launching a new initiative to expand access to veterinary care for underserved communities in Tompkins and surrounding counties. We're seeking an exceptional LVT to help make it happen.
Our faculty clinicians and LVTs mentor veterinary students and interns as they deliver top-quality care in shelter, clinical, and community settings. The LVT team provides surgical and technical support for high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter (HQHVSN), soft tissue, and dental procedures, as well as other essential services. Through our accessible care programs, we also offer low-cost preventive care and treatment for minor illnesses and injuries.
MSMP LVTs use their full skill set, one day assisting in surgery, the next working directly with clients, all in a supportive teaching environment. We're looking for a motivated professional with the vision and drive to help lead and grow this new program in alignment with Cornell's core values.
The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Providing direct client communication with professionalism and empathy, while delivering high-quality, compassionate care to patients and support to their families.
Under supervision of faculty clinician, serving as primary anesthetist for MSMP surgeries at local shelters, Primary Care Surgery, Small Animal Community Practice (SACP), Shelter Outreach Services (SOS), and College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) locations.
Providing patient care including Fear Free restraint, medical treatment, specimen collection, diagnostic imaging.
Maintaining records and entering client data in zy Vet, the electronic medical record system.
Provide instruction and support to veterinary students, interns and externs in clinical and anesthetic techniques.
Employees working in the hospital must receive the pre-exposure rabies prophylaxis vaccination series prior to or immediately after hire, which will be paid for by the department.
Required Qualifications
Associate's degree in veterinary technology, and New York State licensure or eligibility to be licensed, with at least 1 year of relevant experience or equivalent combination.
Valid driver's license with ability to drive a large mobile van to local shelters on workdays.
Ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships with various groups and individuals (including staff, students, technicians, and veterinarians) and to always act in a professional manner.
Ability to meet the physical demands of the positions, which includes, but is not limited to, prolonged standing and kneeling, as well as lifting and restraining patients that may weigh more than 50 lbs.
Excellent customer service skills
Strong interest in animal welfare and serving underserved communities
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in an animal shelter, high quality, high volume spay/neuter clinic, and/or access to care clinic environment.
Previous experience instructing vet students or vet tech students.
Spanish or Mandarin language proficiency
Advanced training, with specialty certification (anesthesia, or emergency) in an area of veterinary technology.
Working knowledge of basic software programs, such as Workday, Excel, EzyVet and Pet Point.

Anesthesia Nurse - Weekends
Position Summary
Provides patient care for ill and injured animals in the Large Animal Anesthesia Department and the Small Animal Anesthesia Support Center of the Veterinary Medical Center. The Large Animal Anesthesia Department works with a variety of large animal species including equine, porcine, caprine, ovine, and more. The Anesthesia Support Center is a branch of the Small Animal Anesthesia department that performs anesthesia to patients and provides supportive care. This position will utilize LVTs or LVN's for their technical abilities and knowledge acquired through school in both areas of the hospital listed above. Some job responsibilities include techniques related to performing anesthesia (IVC placement, Intubation, Monitoring, Medication Injection, and Recovery) along with pre & post operative patient care on a variety of species while instructing and demonstrating these techniques to students. MSU's Veterinary Medical Center provides extraordinary benefits to their employees, as well as opportunities to learn and grow within. This position will also maintain supplies, equipment, and cleanliness of the anesthesia support center, the large animal anesthesia office, and all other anesthesia areas throughout both hospitals .
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge normally acquired in the first two or three years in college, technical or vocational school in Veterinary Technology; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in extensive patient care, surgery, anesthesia, drug- dosing, and sterilization; experience in the use of spreadsheet and word processing software. An equivalent combination of education and experience; licensed as a Veterinary Technician with the State of Michigan or attainment of such certification within one year from date of employment.
Desired Qualifications
Experience as a veterinary technician in an educational setting. Experience in extensive patient care, emergency/critical care, surgery, anesthesia, drug-dosing, and sterile techniques. Experience in electronic medical records software or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Summary of Physical Demands
The veterinary nurse will be lifting animal patients onto cages and medical equipment; carrying animals between cages and exam tables and gurneys; pushing carts containing animals and equipment to other units; climbing stairs carrying lab samples; restraining animals; preparing for medical procedures and treatments. Lift animals up to 50lbs individually and up to 150lbs as a team.
