Adjunct Sewing Instructor: The successful candidate will have the ability to disseminate the technical information required to the students along with applying the candidate's own industry experiences to reinforce the prevalent theories in the program.
Major Objective:
This position is responsible for initiating the teaching and learning process with a focus on continuous improvement: creating an environment in which students can accomplish the learning competencies of the course of instruction; maintaining, updating, designing and developing new curriculum. The result should be students' abilities to demonstrate the knowledge, skills, ethics, and use of proper tools to meet industry and professional business standards.
* Earned Associate's degree from a regionally accredited institution in Apparel, Textiles, Industrial Sewing, Design and Merchandising, Manufacturing, CNC, or a manufacturing-related field with minimum two years industry experience; OR, earned Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in another discipline with a minimum of five years industry experience; OR, earned Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in another discipline with certifications relevant to the course. Master's degree preferred.
* Minimum of 24 months full time work experience in the field

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provide instruction and support to students in preparation for a career as a Cardiovascular Technologist (CVT) and for the board examination to become a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) after completion of the program. This position requires a high degree of knowledge and experience working in the interventional cardiac catheterization lab, a high degree of professionalism while working with students, the public, clinical partners, faculty, and staff.
Ability to explain cardiovascular diagnostic and interventional procedures and equipment clearly and answer questions from students related to these topics.
Respond to student inquiries via email about course topics, schedule, and alternative information for understanding subject matter.
Construct assignments and administer quizzes and exams through Canvas Learning Management System.
Organization and demonstration of in person lab instruction of sterility measures, PPE, and introduction to diagnostic procedures and equipment.
Use of web based programs, such as Google Docs, Google Slides, YouTube, etc. for creating course content.
Create and consistently update PowerPoint slides for lectures based on course material.
Record lectures using in-browser technology powered by Panopto.
Teach courses and fulfill adjunct faculty responsibilities, including fostering a stimulating classroom environment, following syllabus templates, and using department-approved textbooks.
Maintain accurate student records and provide reasonable accommodations as per ADA guidelines as approved by Disability Support Services to meet students needs.
Respond to communications promptly and ensure student access to course information.
Perform tasks normally expected of adjunct faculty members
Follow the required syllabus template.
Comply with GRCC policies and the Faculty Association Contract.

Qualifications
Graduation from a Cardiovascular Technologist degree program required. Bachelor's degree or higher in a health related field preferred.
Minimum 2 years experience working in an interventional catheterization lab setting

* Direct and coordinate the activities of the men's soccer program in the planning, organizing and coaching of the Grand Rapids Community College (GRCC) men's soccer team.

* Physical Strength-Assists in transferring patients from wheelchairs and beds to X-ray tables and vice versa. Patients may be comatose, paralyzed or suffering from some degree of incapacity. The student may have to move heavy equipment, such as a portable X-ray machine, to different locations.
* Mobility-Stand and reach overhead to position the X-ray tube hanging from the ceiling; move quickly in an emergency; and be able to perform work while standing for long periods of time.
* Hearing-Ability to hear faint sounds from a distance of 15 feet-the approximate distance between the control panel of exposure switches and the X-ray table where the patient is being placed. He/she must also be able to hear faint signals emitted by a dysfunctioning machine.
* Visual Discrimination-Vision that enables him/her to differentiate changing colors of X-ray films and to read markings on dials, monitors etc.
* Coordination-Good motor skills, eye-hand coordination skills, and sensory function in at least one upper limb are needed to align body parts of a patient with the film. Some of the other functions requiring dexterity include filling syringes, putting on surgical gloves, and manipulating locks on equipment.
* Manual Dexterity-Gross motor skills such as standing, walking, and writing. In addition, fine motor skills are needed (such as the ability to make insertion of IV lines, calibrate equipment, draw blood, and so on).
* Communication Skills-Ability to communicate orally and in writing. For example, he/she must be able to read and give directions and instructions clearly and to accurately record health data from patients.

The Adjunct Instructor Pools are for applicants who are interested in teaching in the future as an (part-time) adjunct instructor for one of our departments. The Instructor Pools are always open for applications. However, this does not mean that we have an immediate opening in the division. The Adjunct Instructor Pools function as a way for department chairs to view applicant materials in advance of a need, and determine if the applicant will be approved or not approved to be added to their pool of eligible applicants. Should a part-time instructional need arise in a given department, the department chair will look first at the approved applicants to see if anyone matches our needs, in which case they may make contact to schedule an interview
Required Skills
Master's Degree in discipline or 18 credits in the specific discipline. Prefer teaching experience at the college level. Demonstrated ability to work with various populations representing a wide range of abilities, ages, nationalities and cultures. Experience with instructional technology preferred.
Responsible for instruction and facilitating student learning; committed to student recruitment, retention and success; assessment of learning, development of curriculum and use of instructional delivery modes utilizing both traditional and non-traditional methodology.
Teach assigned course which may include day, night, and online courses, as well as at the main campus and extension centers. Classes are to meet on time for the full allotted time.
Establish and promote an effective learning environment that maximize documented student learning.
Prepare, submit and maintain reports related to student learning.
Grading assignments in a meaningful way to promote continued student growth, returning graded assignments to students in a timely manner, and assigning final grades for all students, meeting or beating all institutional deadlines for completion.
Provide educational assistance to students during regularly scheduled and posted times (i.e., office hours) or by appointment.
Encourage student opinion survey completion for each class and then reviewed after summary information available to assist with increasing student success.
Maintain levels of professional knowledge and expertise, including compliance training or hour.
Perform other duties as assigned.
