We are currently seeking a Laboratory Operations Manager to join the Laboratory team. As our Laboratory Operations Manager, you will play a key role in the day-to-day operations of the clinical laboratory, including people management of technical staff, quality control monitoring, and ensuring operational efficiency. This position works under the direction of the Laboratory Director to maintain compliance with regulatory requirements while managing laboratory resources and personnel.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee daily laboratory operations, workflow, and staff scheduling to ensure efficient service delivery and timely test turnaround. Follow up with the progress of the send-out tests, and ensuring the proper use and maintenance of laboratory equipment and supplies.
Review and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) and maintain all necessary documentation for accreditation and compliance.
Manage direct reports of technical and support staff, including training, competency assessments, performance evaluations, and corrective actions, while fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
Monitor and optimize workflow, implement process improvements, and lead continuous quality improvement initiatives.
Manage laboratory supply inventory, equipment maintenance, and vendor relations, including contract negotiations, cost control, and budget monitoring.
Evaluate and implement new testing procedures, methodologies, and technologies.
Analyze the test result data for the lab as a whole. Prepare operational and performance reports, track key metrics, and participate in laboratory leadership meetings. This may include creating ad-hoc reports, managing testing statistics, mapping and integrating codes, and making final testing remarks.
Maintain and troubleshoot the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and ensure compliance with CLIA, CAP, OSHA, HIPAA, and other regulatory standards.
Implement and monitor quality control and assurance programs to meet regulatory standards (e.g., CAP, CLIA, Joint Commission), ensure safety protocols are followed, and address any identified deficiencies. May include proficiency testing, monitoring quality indicators, and supporting regulatory inspections.
Collaborate with physicians, healthcare providers, and other departments to support patient care and client services, including handling customer service issues.
External Stakeholder Management: Serve as a main liaison between the lab and our clients, business partners, including hospital departments, vendors, or auditors.
Act as a resource for technical and administrative issues, helping to resolve complex problems and implementing new technical procedures.
Identify and implement performance improvement projects and contribute to the development and validation of new assays and procedures.
Support both B2B and B2C operations, including coordination of individual specimen/package processing.
Stay up-to-date with all applicable health, safety, and accreditation standards, and participate in audits to ensure ongoing compliance.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Must have current certification as a Medical Technologist (MT/MLS) from ASCP or equivalent organization.
Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field is required, with Master's degree preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of CLIA clinical laboratory experience with at least 3 years of experience of managing direct reports in a supervisor role is required.
Must demonstrate thorough knowledge of CLIA regulations, laboratory safety practices, and quality control procedures.
Strong attention to detail.
Strong operational management skills combined with in-depth knowledge of clinical laboratory procedures, and regulatory requirements.

GENERAL DUTIES
Pharmacy Operations:
Assists the leader(s) in planning, coordinating, and troubleshooting activities designed to improve the department's operations. Ensures compliance with state and federal laws, policies and regulations, and JCAHO standards. Develops new procedures and processes to promote growth, teamwork, and efficiency within the pharmacy department. Fosters relationships with ancillary departments to enhance pharmacy care. Investigates incident reports (medication errors), analyze data for trends, and report findings to P&T. Develops and implements process improvements (both internally and externally) based on incident report findings. Ensures compliance with National Patient Safety Goals and Joint Commission standards related to medication management. Oversees the narcotic and non-control discrepancy review processes, anesthesia audits, ADC overrides, and electronic diversion monitoring reports. Ensures implementation of new procedures and processes for the pharmacy staff.
Supervision/Staffing of Department Personnel:
Supervises the scheduling, evaluating, and daily activities of the pharmacy personnel. Responsible for conducting performance evaluations. Ensures adequate staffing with the assistance of the other team members, maintaining a workload balance within the pharmacy department. Assists the leaders in FTE budgeting and maintaining adequate pharmacy personnel. Conducts and provides on-going professional staff development via meetings and in-services.
People:
Interviews and selects qualified candidates along with the leaders to ensure appropriate staffing levels. Communicates direction and processes to department staff and mediates disputes when necessary.
Information Systems:
Oversees and supervises the daily operations of the ADCs along with the pharmacy information system team. Works closely with and provides support to the automation team.

The Program Director nurtures collaborative pharmacist-physician relationships to provide safe, effective, and efficient patient care while ensuring pharmacists feel empowered to serve as patient representatives/advocates. They recommend changes in resource-allocation, policy, facilities, equipment, and programs in order to achieve the ministry's objectives.
Responsibilities:

Ensures pharmacists, technicians, residents receive ongoing training, competency assessment and performance improvement activities to improve patient outcomes.
Coordinates routine operational audits of pharmacy operations, including compliance with system initiatives, regulatory compliance, associate engagement and talent management.
Coordinates with ministry teams for talent acquisition activities, establishment of productivity targets.
Coordinates centralized system for medication order management.
Develops, implements, and maintains labor and non-labor performance improvement standards (Optix).
Coordinate and lead system strategies to manage industry drug shortages, including development of system policies, guidance documents, and tools. Assist with research and coordination of supply chain alternatives (such as development of therapeutic interchanges, conservation strategies, and supply source or contracting alternatives).
Consult and collaborate with stakeholders such as system pharmacists, physicians, nursing, clinical educators, legal counsel and ethics leaders, as appropriate.
Coordinate assistance for any corporate system or process with a component that requires drug therapy expertise. (e.g. EHR builds/alert management, clinical management of the prescription drug benefit for employees, development of policies, documents, tools, or education.)
Establish and preside over a council and/or ad hoc committee(s) of CHRISTUS Health Pharmacy Clinical Managers, or equivalent, to develop, implement, and assess best practices for clinical pharmacy services including coordination of medication collaboratives.
Assume responsibility for ongoing benchmarking related to clinical pharmacy services, including productivity assessment and impact of clinical services on drug costs and medication safety goals.
Provides appropriate drug information services, in-service education, communication, etc. to keep pharmacy, physician and nursing staff aware of important changes in pharmacy policy, procedure or Formulary status. Assist with pharmacy education intiatives and development and/or improvement of the pharmacy service/model.
Participates in committee meetings(s) as determined by System Pharmacy Leadership to support organizational initiatives.
Serves as a preceptor for pharmacy students/residents from local colleges of Pharmacy, pharmacy residents (if applicable), and/or other healthcare professionals in training.
Collaborates with the other System Pharmacy Directors to review and maintain department policies and procedures for pharmacy services; Assists in development and implementation of accrediting agency medication management standards. Facilitate and provide leadership in the maintenance and development of clinical pharmacy initiatives, policies, and protocols.
Collaborates with other System Pharmacy Directors to coordinate ongoing Performance Improvement/medication safety initiatives (including Medication Use Evaluation (MUE); medication incident reports, and adverse drug reactions (ADRs) for reporting to appropriate committees. Participates in departmental and interdisciplinary committees to support the organization's efforts for performance improvement in the areas of patient safety, therapeutic outcomes, and cost savings.
Enhances personal professional growth and development by accessing educational programs, job related literature, in-service meetings, and workshops/seminars.
Responsible for remaining up-to-date on all Federal, State and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements, which apply to the assigned area of responsibility and ensures compliance with all such laws and regulations.
Will comply with all aspects of the CHRISTUS Health Corporate Compliance Plan to include the immediate reporting of any known or suspected illegal or unethical behaviors, criminal conduct or patient/employee safety violations or issues.
