City/State Suffolk, VA Work Shift First (Days) Sentara is hiring an experienced Endoscopy Technician at Sentara Obici Hospital in Suffolk, Virginia.This is a FLEXI/PRN time, day shift position with required call. Hours: Business Hours: 7AM to 3PM Monday to Friday. Flexi/PRN within these hours. (usually 3 shifts a week)
Call Requirement: One weekend per month.
About the department:
Our newly remodeled endoscopy unit features three state-of-the-art procedure rooms and is staffed by a dedicated team of six RNs and endoscopy technicians who work closely with a primary GI outpatient provider, with additional staff available for call coverage and surgical needs. The team performs an average of 12 to 15 procedures daily. Extensive training, lasting 4 to 6 weeks, ensures the endoscopy technician will be proficient in equipment handling, assisting during procedures, and supporting hands-on surgeries. Our experienced gastroenterologists and colorectal surgeons, deliver comprehensive care through both outpatient and inpatient services, ensuring the highest quality patient care.
The Endoscopy Technician assists with the patient care in the Endoscopy Department. Is familiar with gastrointestinal and pulmonary diseases and assists during endoscopic procedures. Responsible for the preparation, maintenance and cleaning of equipment and supplies. Functions under the direction and supervision of a licensed nurse.
This role will work directly with the physician during procedures. Procedural experience preferred.

Must maintain certification by completing 12 Continuing Education Credit Hours annually

What you will do

Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and skill in assembly of trays and peel packs, to include identification of contents, internal chemical indicators, lot control numbers, wrapping, labeling and methods of sterilization.
Performs precautions and actions for steam and Sterrad sterilization methods.
Performs appropriate decontamination practices based on written manufactures instructions for use (MIFU) and safety protocols.
Works as part of a team, self-motivated and adaptable to change.
Performs biological testing procedures.
Demonstrates instrument/Set and Equipment identification.
Operates equipment appropriate to the job role.
Performs record keeping and reporting procedures related to decontamination and sterilization.
Maintains a clean, professional and safe work area.
Performs work accurately and efficiently to avoid re-work and errors.
Re-stocks shelves in Sterile Storage and other areas to maintain defined Par levels of all supplies, instrument trays and other items maintained in inventory.
Communicates process or equipment problems immediately to appropriate leadership.
Follows all hospital and department policies and procedures.

Job Summary
As a Sterile Processing Technician with SpecialtyCare you are responsible for decontamination, cleaning, processing and sterilization of supplies and equipment dispensed by the department following infection control practices. It is your responsibility to ensure client satisfaction while also adhering to the highest quality and compliance standards.
* Assure that the standards of operation of the department comply with the standards set by regulatory agencies, such as the state Department of Health, Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies.
* Sterilize instruments, equipment, linen and supplies using various types of autoclaves. Load autoclaves in prescribed manner and set controls to specified time and temperature according to the type of items being sterilized.
* Complete appropriate documentation records prior to sterilization and after sterilization is completed.
* Assemble all instrument procedure trays, packs, supply carts following prescribed manner using protocol content lists as a guide, mark items with identifying data and distribute or store in designated areas.
* Dispense products requested by verbal, written or telephone requisitions for equipment and supplies.
* Identify and assign priority to emergency requisitions and required supplies and equipment based on knowledge of procedure requested.
* Replace lost or damaged instruments as required to complete the tray.
* Obtain, complete and submit all forms following the prescribed manner to verify appropriate work assignments.
* Maintain assigned work areas and equipment in a clean and organized condition to maintain required standards for handling of sterilized, clean materials and equipment.
* May perform other work related duties as assigned.
Requirements
* Associate's Degree or equivalent, preferred.
* CRCST certification or CBSPDS certification required.
* Previous experience in sterile processing preferred but not required.
* Must have a thorough knowledge aseptic technique, sterilization techniques, infection control requirements, and a basic knowledge of medical/surgical procedure and terminology.

The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the care and preparation of surgical instruments and supplies according to AAMI standards. The technician maintains established inventory levels by checking supplies and equipment. Orders supplies for the area. The technician performs the appropriate testing of all sterilizers and keeps accurate records.
* Effectively organizes time, equipment, supplies and ensures needed items are readily available for the OR based on the daily schedule.
* Uses equipment accurately to ensure no equipment is broken or instrument lost.
* Confirms that proper aseptic techniques and procedures are used according to accepted standards of practice.
* Assists in managing inventory of supplies and equipment to maintain availability and stock levels in the instrument room, decontamination room and sterile supply room.
* Performs daily testing and load specific biological testing as required per policy and maintains sterilization logs.
* Uses manufacturer's IFU's for cleaning and sterilization of instruments.
* Performs the cleaning, wrapping and sterilization of equipment, utilizing multiple methods to include: steam sterilization, Sterrad, Steris, and high level disinfection with the automated endoscope reprocessor.
* Ensures instruments are accounted for upon receipt from the OR.
* Assists in the cleaning and turn-over of OR rooms between cases, as needed.
