Job Summary: The Psychiatric Medical Assistant is a medical assistant who also qualifies as a Behavioral Health Technician I (BHT I), under the direct supervision of a licensed behavioral health professional (BHP). The Psychiatric Medical Assistant assist the psychiatric provider by preparing patients for appointments, taking vital signs, updating medical records, assisting with procedures, managing administrative tasks, and providing patient education, all while demonstrating empathy and understanding of mental health conditions. In addition, this role coordinates care between both internal and external care teams, assists with case management services to address barriers to care, and is responsible for outreach, engagement, and patient closures. Duties/Responsibilities: Works in a team model to improve the patient's experience, create better communication and access to care, and support processes that will improve patient satisfaction. Prepares patients for examination, takes vitals, and records patients' health history. Sets-up EKG machines, administers injections and medications, and performs routine specimen collection and tests. Prepares equipment and examination rooms and cleans instruments. Assists provider with medical treatments, procedures, and exams. Manages inventory of medical supplies and equips exam rooms with appropriate supplies. Receives and directs phone calls, schedules appointments, and performs patient check-in, ensuring necessary patient information is obtained and patient records are up to date. Checks-out patients, assists with referral processing, and arranges laboratory services. Organizes and communicates with insurance companies for authorizations for treatment, testing and specialist referrals. Attends, participates, and/or assists in meetings, trainings, community outreach activities, continuing education opportunities, and other activities as required. Engages with patients and families for outreach, scheduling, and close out of services per protocols. Supports and collaborates with assigned clinicians/providers on caseloads and identified needs. Assist patients with access to covered services as outlined in the patient's service plan to address an identified clinical need. Outreach and follow-up of crisis contacts and missed appointments that include clinically pertinent and substantive contact. Participation in care team patient staffing. Adheres to all rules and regulations regarding patient confidentiality and patient rights as outlined in contracts, NOAH policy, and State and Federal regulations. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Skills/Knowledge/Abilities: Knowledge of medical practices and front and back-office procedures. Knowledge of patient care and examination procedures. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to interact with individuals of various social, cultural, and educational backgrounds. Strong customer service skills. Detail-oriented and professional. Ability to exercise confidentiality, discretion, and good judgment. Ability to speak English and Spanish preferred. Education and Experience: Required: High School Diploma or GED. Certified or Registered Medical Assistant OR completion of a Medical Assistant program that meets the BOMEX training guidelines OR completion of a United States Armed Forces medical services training program OR meet necessary guidelines as described in Arizona Board of Medical Examiners Administrative Code, Title 4, Chapter 16, Article 4, Section R4-16-401, paragraphs A and B prior to start date. 1-year behavioral health experience New Hires are required to pass pre-employment background check and drug testing (effective 11/1/2022). Current Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card or must pass fingerprint clearance within 7 days following hire. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

This position will supervise other personnel as assigned. The position may require periodic participation in peer review activities. POSITION SUMMARY: This position provides assessments and performs as an assigned clinician and case manager. Advocate for customers, obtain entitlements, coordinate transportation between ChangePoint and other service providers. This position is expected to cooperate as a team member in the provision of a therapeutic environment that encourages each customer's emotional growth. This position will be expected to maintain an acceptable level productivity as measured by billable hours. This positon is expected to meet all standards for clinical documentation. PRINCIPLE DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Adheres to personnel policies and comply with agency requirements for ethical and professional behavior. 2. Provides adequate assessments on customers. 3. Provides services to customers as a assigned clinician and case manager. 4. Is responsible for all aspects of the clinical records, provides crisis services and assists with service coordination for the customer. 5. Engages and includes the customer in the development and implementation of the treatment plan. 6. Protects customer confidentiality and personal rights. 7. Keeps clear, concise and accurate records of clinical activity according to Policy and Procedures. 8. Assists customers in obtaining entitlements and benefits pertaining to housing, income, health and other supportive services, as needed. 9. Provides assertive outreach to customers who resist involvement or have difficulty accessing services. 10. Establishes and maintains a working relationship with personnel and referral resources. 11. Supervises staff as assigned. 12. If qualified, provides rotating on-call coverage. 13. Must meet state standards for continued education. 14. Able to provide a diagnostic impression per DSM IV criteria for Substance Abuse and Chemical Dependency. 4. Knowledge of history of substance dependence and of the biopsychosocial influences and effects of dependencies. For Those Working With DD: 1. Knowledge of symptoms related to qualifying diagnosis. 2. Ability to identify and communicate signs of regression and deterioration. 3. Knowledge of Article 9 (customer rights) of State Requirements. 4. Knowledge of Customer Intervention Techniques relative to self care and ADL skill development. Preferred: Masters degree in behavioral health field and certification. CPR and First Aid certification. Knowledge of entitlement process and local resources. Skills/Abilities Required: Fluent in English, both verbally and in writing. Literate. Able to effectively employ analytical and problem-solving skills. Able to prioritize, handle multiple tasks with customer. Ability to accurately complete difficult paperwork in a timely manner producing professional documents, charting in customers charts, and record keeping using JCAHO, NARBHA and DHS standards. Preferred: Experience and training in crisis intervention. Familiar with psychotropic drugs and their side effects. WORKING CONDITIONS: Physical Requirements Able to sit for extended periods of time.
