We are seeking a dynamic and versatile professional to join our team in a unique hybrid role that combines Oracle Database Administration with modern infrastructure and DevOps engineering. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, is passionate about emerging technologies, and enjoys collaborating with development teams to drive innovation. Position can work remotely within the state of Wisconsin.
Compensation:
$110,000 - $135,000 year based on experience
Responsibilities:
Database Administration (Approx. 40%):
Maintain, monitor, and tune on-premise Oracle 19c databases for performance, availability, and security.
Perform routine database maintenance, backups, patching, and upgrades.
Provide cross-functional support for Microsoft SQL Server environments.
Assist in planning and executing a potential upgrade to Oracle 23c and/or migration to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
Collaborate with Application and Data Teams to support database-related aspects of project delivery.
Serve as a technical liaison to ensure database architecture aligns with application requirements and performance standards, providing guidance and hands-on support throughout the development lifecycle.
Infrastructure & DevOps (Approx. 60%):
Lead initiatives in containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and support infrastructure automation (Terraform, Ansible, ActiveBatch).
Design and implement test automation environments and support hardware/software configuration.
Research and prototype AI-driven infrastructure solutions to optimize performance and scalability.
Collaborate with development teams to provide architectural guidance and infrastructure best practices.
Drive adoption of CI/CD pipelines, observability tools, and modern DevOps practices.
Additional Responsibilities:
Participate in an on-call rotation to support production systems and respond to critical incidents.
Qualifications:
Required:
5+ years of experience as an Oracle DBA (preferably with Oracle 19c).
Proficiency in SQL Server administration and performance tuning.
Strong knowledge of Linux/Unix systems, shell scripting, and system-level troubleshooting.
Experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes) and cloud platforms (OCI, AWS, or Azure).
Familiarity with DevOps tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred:
Experience with Oracle 23c or planning cloud migrations.
Experience with enterprise job scheduling platforms.
Exposure to AI/ML infrastructure or research in AI-driven system optimization.
Knowledge of infrastructure as code (IaC) and observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK).
Experience in the property and casualty insurance industry.

**Position Qualifications:**

The Sr. Liferay Developer is responsible for leading the design of technology solutions to ensure they meet all resiliency, stability, non-functional, functional and operational readiness use cases. Role Snapshot Our Senior COBOL Developer is responsible for enhancing and maintaining complex applications, as well as developing detailed technical specifications. This role involves leading and supporting the design, development, deployment, and ongoing maintenance of programs. This developer will interpret client requirements and collaborate closely with cross-functional Information Systems teams. In our mainframe environment we rely on our senior developers to have recent experience and a strong understanding of CICS. Besides COBOL, we have a robust DB2 environment as well.
Salary Range
$95,000 ~ $115,000

Work Location
Our first consideration will be to have this new employee live in the state of Wisconsin to take advantage of Hybrid work and collaboration. Employees living within 45 miles of WPS Headquarters (1717 W. Broadway in Madison, WI) will be expected to be able to work Hybrid 2 days a week on a regular basis.

Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin.

Have served as technical lead for medium- to large-scale assigned development efforts and projects.
Can partner with Quality Assurance teams to validate and test applications.
Enjoy performing peer reviews of code and technical documentation to maintain quality standards.
Have utilized source control tools to safeguard code integrity, including prior versions.
Can coordinate and communicate development activities with other teams, including database management, infrastructure, and quality assurance.
Thrive in complex environments managing multiple concurrent initiatives and escalate issues appropriately.
Minimum Qualifications
U.S. citizenship is required for this position due to Department of Defense restrictions.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent related work experience.
5 or more years of experience in application development, implementation, and support.
Proven expertise in mainframe development, with advanced proficiency in COBOL, TSO, JCL, CICS, MVS, and File Aid.
Solid proficiency with VSAM file structures.
Strong background in relational databases, such as DB2 and SQL.
Experience in applying Agile methodology in department projects.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
Strong verbal and communication skills with ability to explain technical information to non-technical audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
5 or more years of expertise in mainframe development, with advanced proficiency in COBOL, TSO, JCL, CICS, MVS, and File Aid.
Exposure to WPS's Mainframe systems and Tricare business line.
