DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The incumbent in this position is responsible for the operation of a bus or mini-van on an assigned route. In addition, the incumbent is expected to perform minor maintenance tasks on vehicles to which he or she is assigned, as well as, to ensure the safety and proper conduct of passengers boarding, riding and departing from the bus. The work is performed under the general supervision of the department head, immediate supervisor or other official, permitting leeway in carrying out the details of the work. Transportation/Bus Driver Trainee BUS DRIVER TRAINEE DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is a short-term (up to six (6) months) position allowing incumbent to train and attain the required driver's license to operate the agency's fleet of vehicles. The work involves shadowing a bus driver to become oriented with features of the bus, sitting at controls and, under close supervision, perform basic functions of driver in an area with no traffic (i.e.; parking lot).
