At NorthBay Health the Clinical Nurse Specialist Coordinator, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (CNSC, NICU)is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse who coordinates the clinical and educational resources and care standards for the neonatal and pediatric critical care level patient population with a focus on neuro-surgical and critical care. The CNSC, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit's role, along with other members of the patient care services team, is to promote the provision of effective, high quality patient care to all patients. This CNSC, NICU participates in the development of evidence based care delivery systems and clinical practice programs. This CNSC, NICU works with physicians in order to establish a collegial and interdisciplinary patient care environment. The CNSC, NICU is an independent consultant on clinical care issues for patients, families, staff, physicians and other departments. The CNSC, NICU will be responsible for facilitating and managing patient care services division special projects as assigned. The Community CNS shall be responsible for directing the clinical nursing practice in the NICU, Coordinating and assessing critical care education development and clinical competency of the nursing staff in the NICU; and ensuring continued competency through educational programs for both the newly hired and experienced nursing staff. The CNS will be consulting with staff on complex neonatal critical care nursing issues and will have oversight of comprehensive patient and/or primary caretaker education activities and ensuring implementation of a coordinated and effective discharge planning program. The following responsibilities are included: oversight of clinical nursing practice and patient care delivery, development of personnel, compliance with regulatory and professional standards, fostering of interdisciplinary, collaborative relationships and is accountable for bringing innovative ideas from and to the bedside. The CNSC, NICU works collaboratively with the Advance Practice Nurses, Learning and Leadership Team members, and nursing leaders to develop and validate the clinical competency of staff. This CNSC, NICU works with physicians in order to establish a collegial and interdisciplinary patient care environment. The CNSC, NICU is an independent consultant on clinical care issues for patients, families, staff, physicians and other departments. The CNSC, NICU will be responsible for facilitating and managing patient care services division special projects as assigned.

Education:
Master's and/or doctoral degree in nursing.
Licensure and Certification:
Current California RN License required.
Certification in Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing from a nationally recognized accrediting organization within 1 year of hire.
Certification by the National Certification Corporation (NCC) required.
Current AHA or equivalent BLS and NRP certification required.
Current Clinical Nurse Specialist certification is required.
Experience:
Minimum of 3 years' clinical experience in neonatal nursing care, at least one of which has been in a facility with a NICU that is equivalent to a Regional or Community NICU.
Minimum 3 years of education or clinical specialist experience with increasing scope of responsibility preferred.
Working knowledge of health care practices, patient care equipment and products required.
Have evidence of current instructor status by the NRP of the AAP and the AHA.
Skills:
Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
Possesses instructional ability, leadership ability, and high professional standards.
Must be well organized, be able to set priorities, work independently and is an effective team member.
Word Processing skills required.
Statistical/data management skills preferred.
Must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skill in providing patient care based on age-related needs.

Competent to perform OB surgical recovery within 3-6 months of hire depending on previous experience.
Twenty hours of breastfeeding education that meets the Baby Friendly/WHO/Unicef curriculum requirements within 3 months of hire (original certificates of completion no further than 2 years of date of hire).

The department consists of 25 chairs and do an average of 55-70 cancer treatments including oncology infusions and supporting treatments.
The care team includes charge and resource nurses and resources, and you will work in close contact with the clinic provider and their team.
Treating all malignancy types, we have a compounding pharmacy on site and are proud of our patient outcomes.
What you'll do\:
Perform patient assessments and care tasks, including emergency procedures, medication administration, chemotherapy/biotherapy administration as appropriate.
Educate patients and document patient interactions.
Practice infection control.
Contribute to the team as necessary to ensure quality patient care within own scope of practice

With primary responsibility for the patients' care, you will be amongst a team that is dedicated to creating an environment that is focused on restoring function and optimizing care, while maintaining the respect, autonomy and individuality of every patient. You will have the support of your team to ensure optimal patient care and success in your role.

Bachelor's Degree in Nursing

The RN in the Float Pool will float between Scripps La Jolla, widely known for the Prebys Cardiovascular Institute and Scripps Green Hospital campus recognized for their transplant program and spine services.
