Under the supervision of a licensed practitioner, the Medical Assistant will per form non-invasive routine technical supportive services of clinic patient care relating to therapeutic and diagnostic functions, following established policies & procedures, and techniques. Qualifications for Medical Assistant I:
1. High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) Certificate is preferred.
2. Completion of a secondary or postsecondary Medical Assistant education program from a public school authorized by the Department of Education, or an approved Medical Assistant program at a postsecondary institution accredited or approved by the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education.
a. Medical Assistant I - Family Medicine
For positions assigned to clinical areas of Family Medicine:
Must demonstrate within ninety days of employment, competency in the usage of clinical equipment and Point of Care testing e.g. pregnancy test, urine dip, etc. Have knowledge of instrument sterilization procedures and process.
b. Medical Assistant I - Women's Health
For positions assigned to clinical areas of Women's Health Services:
Must demonstrate within ninety days of employment, competency in using clinical equipment, Point of Care testing e.g. pregnancy test, urine dip, etc., and knowledge of instrument sterilization procedures and processes.

Must demonstrate through written and oral testing, the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served and has knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. He or she can identify and categorize each patient's age-specific group needs, such as those for infant, adolescent, adult or geriatric patients.
10. Fluency in English (speaks, read and write).
11. Fluency in Spanish (speaks, translate, read and write) and must complete the mandatory Medical Interpretation course offered at NEVHC.
12. Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality about health care and another patient/client information.
13. Ability to utilize electronic medical records effectively to intake and document patient information and schedule appointments.
14. Current California driver's license, appropriate insurance coverage and a driving record acceptable to the NEVHC's insurance carrier (if required to drive on the job).
