DENSS supports approximately 130 Military Treatment Facilities worldwide, 30 are Outside the Continental United States (OCONUS), of which 50 are inpatient facilities on a 24/7 schedule. There are approximately 19 regional data centers referred to as Medical Application Access Gateways (MAAG's) as well as local data centers located within each MTF. There are approximately 200 Geographically Separated Units (GSU's) operating as remote clinics of the parent MTFs located on other bases that are sometimes in other states or countries. Additionally, each MTF will have a number of outlying buildings supporting healthcare operations on each base that range from health, dental, and specialty services. There are approximately 10,000+ LAN, WLAN, and Data Center elements in the enterprise as well as 30,000+ WLAN Access Points. The DHA tool for management is Micro Focus Network Automation, and CheckMK for monitoring. Solarwinds has been procured to replace them and is in the process of being deployed.
DENSS is responsible for life cycling LAN, WLAN, and Data Center electronics to meet DoD requirements. All electronics are fully or partially replaced on an average 3-to-5-year lifecycle meaning on average there are 30-50 active projects going on per year.
The LAN/WLAN Upgrade and Modernization Technical Services consist of Network Architectural & Design Standards, Program Management Support, Document and Knowledge Management, Technical Writing, Cable Plant Upgrades (CPUs), Cable Abatements, Electronic Upgrades, (EUs), Medical
Community of Interest (Med-COI) Enclave Transition Support and Technology Evaluations and Support Services for current and future trends following DHA architecture compliance.
Services include:
Support engineering and deployment of network and security solutions in DoD Armed Forces, and Military Health Services medical treatment facilities (MTFs).
Support the consolidation of Service infrastructure support functions into a secure single entity under the DHA.
Support in assessing and supporting the overall information technology (IT) needs that affect healthcare delivery.
Provide network solutions to support any Tri-Service system set forth by the DHA for clinical and business Automated Information systems and Service-specific medical objectives for proper implementation.
Support DHA IT platforms and infrastructure engineering design and deployment efforts for network infrastructures to meet rapidly changing mission requirements (just-in-time infrastructure), large-scale infrastructure designs and deployments of networks supporting the existing functional medical network infrastructures, maintenance and sparing function, or a combination of any integrated networkengineering support currently provided or planned for the future.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide highly technical expertise in network and telecommunications architecture development, network/systems design, cable abatement, and product selection.
- Coordinate project activities, monitors project milestones, and provide progress reports.
- Support field network infrastructure surveys, data analysis, network design, and implementation as part of an established network design engineering team in support of customer requirements.
- Provide escalated MTF network troubleshooting and just-in-time support.
- Position is subject to travel.
