Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Duties require working and transporting patients in ambulances. Driving vehicles, including ambulances in all weather conditions. Required to drive to and work at multiple locations across NC based on staffing needs.
Must not have any physical, emotional, or mental impairment to prevent them from riding, driving, or administering patient care in transport vehicles. This work area has cramped space and can be poorly lit. Noise levels are moderate as associated with working in and around emergency vehicles. Requires handling of patients that may have infectious disease, possible exposure to unpleasant conditions and / or handling of contaminated materials or patients.
Heavy lifting required, with the assistance of a partner, to load patients, unload patients, and carry equipment. Good physical stamina and endurance are necessary to perform duties. Teammates must maintain fitness standards in accordance with the fitness of duty policy.
Must have an intact sense of sight, hearing, smell, and touch. Finger dexterity, good motor, and eye-hand coordination required. Requires good personal hygiene and appropriate conduct. Aptitudes for work of this nature are good physical stamina, endurance and body which would not be adversely affected by having to lift, carry, and balance at times in excess of 125 pounds (250 pounds with assistance). Motor coordination is necessary because of uneven terrain. Both the patient's and the team member's well being must not be jeopardized. Hearing must be in normal range as well as near visual acuity to be able to take accurate vital sings and to detect any deterioration in the patients' condition. Normal eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity to give injections, medications and intravenous therapy. Must have good oral communication skills to take patient history, give instruction and communicate with physician about patient care.

Current applicable state Paramedic Certification. ACLS/BLS required per policy guidelines. National registry for paramedics preferred.

Functions as a support role to the paramedic or nurse during transport of patients from venue sites. Assist with packaging, loading, and providing care to the patient at the EMT-D level as directed.
Drives the vehicles according to special events policy as well as state and local law. Ensure the safety of all passengers at all times.
Ensures that the entire vehicle is cleaned and restocked after each event and/or patient transport.
Reports any safety hazards to the lead paramedic or Assistant Director. If using a MCA ambulance, report any safety hazards to the MCA charge person as soon as possible.
Documents patient condition and all treatment provided while maintaining patient confidentiality.
Maintains necessary certifications, skills, required continuing education, and mandatory in services.
Physical Requirements
Must have good physical stamina, endurance and body which would not be adversely affected by having to lift, carry, and balance at times in excess of 125 pounds (250 pounds with assistance). Motor coordination is necessary because of uneven terrain. Both the patient's and the team member's well being must not be jeopardized. Hearing must be in normal range as well as near visual acuity to be able to take accurate vital signs and to detect any deterioration in the patients condition. Normal eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity to give injections, medications and intravenous therapy. Must have good oral communication skills to take patient history, give instruction and communicate with physician about patient care.
Education, Experience and Certifications
Current applicable state EMT certification required. BCLS required. Current Drivers License required. National EMT registry preferred. 1 to 2 years experience with a 911 service as an EMT required.

Sentara Albemarle Medical Center is hiring a Patient Care Tech (PCT) for the Medical Telemetry Unit.
Hours/Shift: 24-hours per week, night shift
Patient Care Technicians are unlicensed staff members who are accountable to, and work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse to implement delegated aspects of nursing care. Provide patient care, support the admissions and discharge process, and comply with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional nurse. Observe patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions and report any change to the nursing.
Education:
HS - High School Grad or Equivalent
One of the following programs is acceptable for education: Sentara Care Partner Certification Program, successful completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT), completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School, Emergency Services to include EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic, or current student enrolled in a clinical program having completed at least one semester of a (RN, LPN, RT or PT) or current work experience within last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant.
Certifications/Licensure:
AHA BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
Education:
One year of health care experience preferred.

Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, located in Elizabeth City, NC, serves northeastern North Carolina with a caring team of approximately 650 employees and 150 medical providers. The 135-acre campus, coming out of the ground at Halstead Boulevard Extended and Thunder Road, will be known as the Sentara Albemarle Regional Health Campus. It is projected to cost about $200 million, up from the original estimate of $158 million, due to sharp spikes in costs for building materials and medical equipment.
