    Job Details The Community Associate will perform duties that directly relate to the outreach efforts of the school, ongoing work with existing partnership organizations, the local community, and the introduction of new community partnerships. This includes establishing, maintaining, coordinating and monitoring partnerships and community development programs associated with the Parent Teachers' Association and various departments within the school: Guidance, Organization, the Office of School Climate and Culture . Current partnerships and community programs include a wide range of non-profit and corporate partnerships. Performs related work. Reports to: The Assistant Principal Key Relationships: Maintains positive professional relationships with the entire school community, including students, parents, community partners, and faculty. The Community Associate serves as a liaison between the principal, the school community, and the larger community outside of school. Responsibilities * Maintains computer-based record-keeping systems with community partner information and contacts. * Coordinates contact with parents and the school community to elicit their support and participation in school and community activities, parent meetings, workshops, musical productions and volunteer activities. * Increases and develops relationships with community-based organizations. Facilitate regular community-based meetings and events. * Develops a wide range of community contacts that will volunteer, partner, or provide resources to the school. * Maintains ongoing contact with community organizations that are involved with providing services to support the school's educational programs. * Makes connections with community-based organizations to increase community support and to communicate any change in the needs of the student population. * Assists students and staff in building relationships with external partners, including those connected to the school. * Assists in coordinating, improving and maintaining community services and relationships with the school. * Coordinates various outreach programs between the school and the neighboring community. * Assists with written and telephone communication with parents, partners and the community. * Works with our Community Based Organization (CBO) on school wide initiatives to engage the community. * Other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Qualifications Requirements: Minimum * High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or * Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above. Preferred * Team player who is able to work closely with all members of the school and outside community. * Public speaking ability and good people skills. Ability to interact with people at all social and economic levels. * Prior work experience in school setting and interaction with students, parents and school staff. * Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. * Ability to work with students, parents, teachers and supervisors. * Knowledge of school program objectives. * Strong comprehension and literacy skills, with the ability to trouble shoot complex issues when necessary. * Bilingual Chinese or Spanish preferred. Work Schedule: This is a 12 month 35 hour per week annual assignment. Position will require flexibility with respect to work hours in order to meet the needs of the school community, including early mornings, evenings and weekends. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to): Leadership & Division Management Working closely with the Head of Middle School (HoMS) to advance the division's vision and goals and helping to assess progress throughout the school year. Acting as the primary point person for the division in the HoMS's absence. Participating in the hiring and training of new faculty and staff. Assisting in planning faculty meetings and PA coffees. Partnering with the registrar and scheduler to create academic schedules and duties. Coordinating major divisional and end-of-year events in collaboration with the HoMS and class deans. Organizing and managing grade-wide trips (with class deans) and assisting with logistics for individual class field trips. Student Support & Community Life Partnering with the HoMS, counseling office, school nurse, learning specialists, and deans to support the academic and social-emotional needs of Middle School students. Collaborating with the HoMS, deans, and the Assistant Head for Community Life and Belonging to develop and implement policies and programs that support students of color. Creating and enforcing disciplinary policies with the HoMS and responding to student conflicts using restorative and developmentally appropriate approaches. Coordinating extracurricular programming, including logistics and communication around assemblies, clubs, and special programming. Building, coordinating, and communicating the logistics for new student orientation with class deans. Maintaining consistent communication with parents regarding issues related to their children. Participating in parent education panels, coffees, and other community-facing events. Supporting the process for students applying out to other schools. Serving on the Middle School admissions committee. Crafting and sending the weekly “Week Ahead” email to students with announcements and community-time updates. Teaching, Advising & Administrative Support Teaching one Middle School course. Serving as an advisor and attending dean and advising team meetings. Assisting the HoMS with proofreading and editing student progress reports and reviewing schedules. Ensuring all Middle School classes are covered in the event of teacher absences, in collaboration with Department Chairs. Making sure all divisional duties are appropriately assigned to Middle School faculty. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal candidate will have: Proven administrative and/or supervisory experience in a school setting (3-5 years preferred). A passion for, and experience working with, Middle School students and teachers. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Six-year degree (60 or more semester hours) or a doctoral degree from a planned program in school psychology in an accredited university New York State School Psychologist's Certificate MAJOR DUTIES Our school psychologist will provide support and interventions to students, consult with teachers, families and other mental health professionals (i.e., school counselors, school social workers) to improve support strategies, work with school administrators to improve school-wide practices and policies, and collaborate with community providers to coordinate needed services.
