Responsibilities
Under the general supervision of the Imaging Center Manager, the Ultrasonographer is responsible for the provision of radiological services to patients according to physicians' orders. Provides for patient safety and high quality testing.
Qualifications
MINIMUM EDUCATION
Graduate of an accredited ultrasound school.
MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE
Minimum of 1 year excluding clinical training in OB/GYN and abdominal ultrasound preferred. Vascular experience a plus.
REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
Current registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist registered or registry eligible within 90 days of hire or Certified ARDMS. American Heart Association BLS required.
Valid Driver's license and reliable transportation necessary as driving between campuses is required.
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES

What you will do
Selects appropriate equipment/transducer for use in ultrasound setup according to specifications of examination/protocol. Moves transducer, by hand, over specified area of body and observes sound wave display screen to monitor quality of ultrasonic pattern produced.
Demonstrates knowledge of and performs department exam protocols. Explains process to patient, and instructs and assists patient in assuming physical position for examination.
Accurately enters required data into Lumedx (PACS) system.
Completes and participates in Quality Improvement evaluation as needed/assigned.
Starts equipment, which produces images of internal organs and records diagnostic data on magnetic tape, computer disk, strip printout, or film. Photographs images of organs shown on display module, or removes strip printout from equipment, to obtain permanent record of internal examination.
Disinfects equipment and area.
Participates in training of Washburn University students as directed.
Demonstrates knowledge of and performs proper high-level disinfection processes for probe care. (If applicable)
Cardiac Sonographers Perform IV puncture, utilizing proper injection techniques while injecting endocardial border enhancing agents.
Rotating call is a requirement of the position. (Manhattan/Emporia exempt from call)
Selects and adds correct associated examination charges as needed.

This position may exist in hospital imaging departments or in the perinatal specialty area and works under the general direction of the physician and/or supervision of the manager or supervisor. * Reviews clinical information, including relevant personal and family history, exposures and other risk factors. This also includes review of pertinent prior imaging study reports or the images themselves as available.
* Communicates easily and effectively with patients in a pleasant and reassuring manner. Explains the procedure to the patient and responds to patient questions and concerns.
* Performs appropriate procedures and records anatomic, pathologic and or physiologic data for interpretation by the Maternal Fetal Medicine and Radiology faculty.
* Uses independent judgment during the sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings.
* Extends the scope of the exam by providing additional ultrasound images based on the pathology or aberrant findings.
* Reviews images for accurate annotation, technique, and completeness. Demonstrates the ability to properly adjust the technical factors aimed at improving image quality.
* Maintains knowledge of anatomy, pathology, hemodynamics, and ultrasound physics to identify and characterize normal and aberrant anatomy, masses, fluid collections, stenosis and sonographic artifacts.
* Record and process sonographic images and other pertinent observations made during the procedure for presentation to the interpreting physician. Ensures that the documentation is accurate, concise and complete.
* Performs and completes the ultrasound examination within the designated time frame.
* Prepares examination report and effectively communicates ultrasound technical findings to the interpreting physician.
* Ultrasound guidance services required during procedures performed in the unit consists of genetic amniocentesis, transvaginal and transcervical chorionic villus biopsy, multifetal reduction and amino reduction. Performs CVS procedures.
* Demonstrate the ability to competently perform first trimester screening, transvaginal assessment of cervical length, routine and comprehensive ultrasound examinations, biophysical profiles, growth assessment, and Doppler assessment of the middle cerebral artery peak velocity, umbilical artery, umbilical vein, and ductus venous in cases of twin-twin transfusion and fetal growth restriction.
* Scan independently on normal and abnormal scans that are at a high level and complex and have different protocols.
* Independently assists MFM physicians with invasive procedures.
* Scans in 3D imaging to demonstrate to MFM physicians, Radiologists, and Fetal Intervention physicians on abnormalities.
* Demonstrates proficiency in the use of ultrasound equipment, transducers, computer systems, and electronic medical records.
* Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort and wellbeing of patients while they are in the sonographer's care.
* Ensures adequate supply stocking and appropriate inventory control.
* Participates in the AIUM accreditation process and continuous quality improvement activities.
* Provides patient communication with regard to any delays, timed procedures, or any other patient related information.
* Is self-motivated and works well with minimal supervision. Asks for guidance when necessary and responds positively to guidance.

Maintains an active status in American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Society.
Stays current with OB/GYN literature by reading professional journals and books.
Orders medical supplies from appropriate vendors in order to maintain a sufficient inventory.
Provides consultation to administrative staff in scheduling patients and accommodating non-routine referrals.

In this position you will perform routine and comprehensive ultrasound examinations for interpretation by the Maternal Fetal Medicine and Radiology faculty using specialized ultrasound equipment. Job Duties & Responsibilities
• Performs high quality diagnostic ultrasound imaging exams in accordance with established department guidelines and protocols. Be able to independently scan routine and comprehensive ultrasound under the supervision of the MFM Physicians. The sonographer maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times and is self-motivated to increase level of understanding and knowledge of the field, disease process, and new procedures as they evolve.
• Verifies patient identification and reviews that the requested procedure correlates with the patient's clinical history.
• Reviews clinical information, including relevant personal and family history, exposures and other risk factors. This also includes review of pertinent prior imaging study reports or the images themselves as available.
• Communicates easily and effectively with patients in a pleasant and reassuring manner. Explains the procedure to the patient and responds to patient questions and concerns.
• Performs appropriate procedures and records anatomic, pathologic and or physiologic data for interpretation by the Maternal Fetal Medicine and Radiology faculty.
• Uses independent judgment during the sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings.
• Extends the scope of the exam by providing additional ultrasound images based on the pathology or aberrant findings.
• Reviews images for accurate annotation, technique, and completeness. Demonstrates the ability to properly adjust the technical factors aimed at improving the image quality.
• Maintains knowledge of anatomy, pathology, hemodynamics, and ultrasound physics to identify and characterize normal and aberrant anatomy, masses, fluid collections, stenosis and sonographic artifacts.
• Record and process sonographic images and other pertinent observations made during the procedure for presentation to the interpreting physician. Ensures that the documentation is accurate, concise and complete.
• Performs and completes the ultrasound examination within the designated time frame.
• Prepares examination report and effectively communicates ultrasound technical findings to the interpreting physician.
• Independently perform ultrasound guidance services required during procedures performed in the unit consists of genetic amniocentesis, transvaginal and transcervical chorionic villus biopsy, multifetal reduction and amnio reduction.
• Demonstrate the ability to competently perform first trimester and second trimester screening, transvaginal assessment of cervical length, routine and comprehensive ultrasound examinations, biophysical profiles, growth assessment, and Doppler assessment of the middle cerebral artery peak velocity, umbilical artery, umbilical vein, and ductus venosus in cases of twin-twin transfusion and fetal growth restriction.
• Performs CVS procedures.
• Identifies different abnormalities and takes additional images based on abnormalities. Makes independent judgement on what images are needed depending on patient history.
• Introduced to 3D imaging.
• Demonstrates proficiency in the use of ultrasound equipment, transducers, computer systems, and electronic medical records.
• Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort and well being of patients while they are in the sonographer care.
• Ensures adequate supply stocking and appropriate inventory control.
• Participates in the AIUM accreditation process and continuous quality improvement activities.
• Provides patient communication with regard to any delays, timed procedures, or any other patient related information.
• Is self-motivated and works well with minimal supervision. Asks for guidance when necessary and responds positively to guidance.

• Should be familiar with 2D and 3D transabdominal Scanning, transvaginal scanning of Viabilities, Confirmation of Pregnancy, Basic Anatomy, Fetal Growth, Subchorionic bleed, Vaginal bleeding in OB and in Gynecology, RLQ and LLQ Pain, Fibroids, Ovarian mass, ovarian tumors, ectopic pregnancy, abdominal and pelvic pain.
• Stay current with required CME and updated AIUM and ACOG Guidelines.
• Be experienced in Cine-clips and Still images.
• Reviews clinical information, including relevant personal and family history, exposures, and other risk factors.
