POSITION SUMMARY
Provides personal care services under the direction of the Registered Nurse or Therapist. The Home Health Aide is assigned to specific clients by the Registered Nurse or other appropriate professional and performs services for clients as necessary to maintain their personal comfort.

QUALIFICATIONS
Successful completion of a formal certification training program and/or a written skills test and competency evaluation.

Documents care provided and completes the forms required for the client's records. Completes the appropriate records to document care given and pertinent observations. Submits documentation per Agency requirements-at least weekly.
Promotes personal safety and a safe environment for clients by observing infection control practices, following Agency guidelines, and reporting unsafe situations to the Supervisor/Case Manager.
Demonstrates safe practice in the use of equipment. Does not use equipment until orientation about its operation has been provided. Notifies supervisor of educational needs.
Communicates effectively with all members of the interdisciplinary team through verbal reports, participation in staff meetings, and team conferences, as requested.
Maintains confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
Attends in-service programs to meet compliance requirements. Identifies learning needs to Agency supervisor.
Performs other related duties and responsibilities as deemed necessary.

Position Overview
Action Council/Building Healthy Communities is seeking an organized individual passionate about supporting our mission to activate Monterey County resident voice and power to build an inclusive, anti-racist democracy and safe, thriving communities. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Executive Assistant will serve as a vital link between the Executive Director, the organization, and the community.
In this role, the Executive Assistant will manage the Executive Director's calendar and projects, correspondence, and communications, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations. Role Description
The City Attorney is the legal counsel for the City and advises the City Council, boards and commissions, and City staff. Ensuring the well-being of children placed in homes by identifying homes to meet children's needs and closely monitoring their placement and providing assistance to out of home care providers so that children go to mandatory parental visits, medical and dental appointments in order to comply with mandatory county and state procedures, rules and regulations.
Preparing written correspondence, electronic records and court reports by maintaining well documented records in a clear and timely manner according to agency procedures.
Qualifications
1. Education
a. Possession of a Master's Degree in Social Work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work education (CSWE);
OR
b. Possession of a Master's Degree from a two-year (2) counseling program from an accredited college or university. (Qualifying Master's Degrees in counseling include Marriage and Family Therapy, Clinical Counseling, Mental Health Counseling, Addiction Counseling and Counseling Psychology that included a supervised field placement as part of the course curriculum).
AND
2. Experience
a. Satisfactory completion of two semesters of graduate field placement, which involved the provision of direct services to families or children in one of the following or closely related areas: child welfare, family counseling, juvenile probation, pediatric social work, adolescent alcohol and drug counseling or school social work;
OR
b. Six (6) months post baccalaureate professional work experience which involved the provision of direct services to families or children in one of the areas previously described.
AND
3. License: Possession of a valid California class C driver's license and clear Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

SELECTION PROCEDURES

Written Examination - Multiple Choice (100%):
Candidates will be administered a written multiple-choice test designed to measure knowledge, skills and/or abilities in job-related areas which may include but are not limited to: ability and skill to assess, diagnose and apply intervention techniques to child, family and adult related problems; knowledge of social work methods and practices; theories of human behavior and group dynamics; interviewing, investigative and intervention techniques; child development, the aging process, parenting skills, adolescence, substance abuse, familial violence; causes and treatment of child abuse, family dynamics, death and dying; crisis intervention; and mental health/illness; needs and problems of children, families and adults from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds; community resources and community organizations; policies and procedures relating to the provision of social services; investigative techniques, reporting requirements, and court procedures related to social services; the laws, rules and regulations governing the operation of public social services agencies; therapeutic modalities and pharmacology.
A passing score must be achieved on the written multiple choice exam in order to continue in the selection process. Candidates who pass the exam will be placed on the eligible list in rank order according to their written examination score.
Score Banking: Scores attained on the Protective Services Worker Exam for Family and Children Services will be 'banked' for two years, starting from the date of the examination. This means that, during this two-year time period, candidates need not take this test again. However, after one year, a candidate has the option to either (a) keep the same score and apply their test score to the other announcement or (b) re-take the test. Re-testing is permitted no sooner than one year from the date of the test. If a candidate opts to re-test, the re-test score becomes the candidate's official score since it is the most recent.
If a significant modification is made to this exam in the future, the application of “banked” scores may no longer be appropriate. In such a rare circumstance, candidates with “banked” scores would be required to re-take the exam sooner than the two-year period specified above should they apply to another job opportunity where the modified exam is used.

A confidential eligible list of applicant names that have passed the civil service examination process will be created, and used for certification purposes only. An examination score report will be established, so applicants can view the ranks, final scores and number of eligible candidates. DEFINITION

Receives close or general supervision or direction from an assigned Probation Officer Supervisor. Exercises no direct supervision over staff.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
Deputy Probation Officer I: This is the entry-level classification in the Deputy Probation Officer series. Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn and perform routine probation services. As experience is gained, assignments become more varied, complex, and difficult; close supervision and frequent review of work lessen as an incumbent demonstrates skill to perform the work independently. Positions at this level usually perform most of the duties required of the positions at the II-level but are not expected to function at the same skill level and usually exercise less independent discretion and judgment in matters related to work procedures and methods. Work is generally supervised while in progress and fits an established structure or pattern. Exceptions or changes in procedures are explained in detail as they arise.
Deputy Probation Officer II: This is the fully qualified journey-level classification in the Deputy Probation Officer series. Positions at this level are responsible for performing the full range of assigned duties to ensure the justice, rehabilitation, and safety of probationers, and detained youth, and to enforce conditions of probation. Positions work independently, exercise judgment and initiative, receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Incumbents are responsible for monitoring and providing rehabilitative services to adult and juvenile offenders and for ensuring adherence to court orders while promoting reduced recidivism and increased pro-social behaviors. Positions at the II-level are normally filled by advancement from the I-level after gaining the knowledge, skill, and experience which meet the qualifications for and after demonstrating the ability to perform the work of the higher-level class.
Deputy Probation Officer III: This is the advanced journey-level classification in the Deputy Probation Officer series responsible for performing the most complex work assigned to the series and is competent to perform the full range of probation peace officer duties for a diversified clientele and, in addition, responsible for ancillary duties in support of their unit supervisor and in furthering departmental initiatives through mentoring and guidance of subordinate deputies and others. Incumbents regularly work on tasks which are varied and complex, requiring considerable discretion and independent judgement. Positions in the classification rely on experience and judgement to perform assigned duties. Assignments are given with general guidelines and incumbents are responsible for establishing objectives, timelines, and methods to deliver services. Work is typically reviewed upon completion for soundness, appropriateness and conformity to policy and requirements. Incumbents at the III-level have demonstrated greater initiative, independence, and latitude of judgement in the completion of work assignments, completed all trainings as required, demonstrated substantial understanding and consistent use of the best practices in corrections, served a minimum of two years as a Deputy Probation Officer II or equivalent class.
Positions in the Deputy Probation Officer class series are flexibly staffed; positions at the II- and III-levels may be filled by advancement from the I-level and the II-level; progression to the II- and III-levels is dependent on (i) management affirmation that the position is performing the full range of duties assigned to the classification; (ii) satisfactory work performance; (iii) the incumbent meeting the minimum qualifications for the classification including any licenses and certifications; and (iv) management approval for progression to the II- and III-levels.
EXAMPLES OF TYPICAL JOB FUNCTIONS

* Conducts investigations and field searches using accepted data collection methods to establish facts and draw valid conclusions; analyzes data including, but not limited to medical, social history, and legal reports, as well as other documents.

* Represents the department at various court proceedings and/or testifies in court and other hearings regarding sentencing recommendations, probation violations and termination, revocation hearings, probation modifications, case disposition, and case related issues.
* Requests evaluations, refers, and coordinates and monitors participation in mental health, medical, substance abuse, community service, and related treatment and rehabilitation programs.
* Intervenes in crisis situations, counsels individuals and families, and makes referrals.
* Works closely with schools, courts, community agencies, law enforcement, District Attorney and staff, client attorneys, other legal representation, and others during the course of client's probation including attending various meetings.
* Coordinates ongoing activities of various probation programs including but not limited to work release, home supervision/electronic monitoring, and community service.
* Prepares and maintains a variety of reports, files, legal documents, correspondence, and records.
* Transports probationers to custodial facilities and court hearings.
* Attends meetings and participates in training; stays abreast of new trends, new legislation, court decisions and innovations in the field of probation.
When performing institutions duties:
* Monitors a caseload of youth detained at the County Juvenile Hall.
* Oversees, monitors, and ensures the safety, security, treatment, recreation, personal hygiene, and other daily living activities of youth detained at the County Juvenile Hall.
* Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and department policies and procedures.
* Plans, organizes, and supervises a program of work, education, and recreation for a group of youth in the County's Juvenile Hall; monitors daily activities and leisure time to ensure adherence to established schedules; conducts room and other visual checks for facility security and health related purposes.
* Educates youth on positive behavior in accordance with established protocols; confers with assigned supervisor and others regarding behavior issues and to determine appropriate responses for rule infractions; implements behavior modification; holds juveniles accountable for their behavior.
* Communicates and consults with attorneys, the Court, families, law enforcement and social service agencies regarding youth detained at the County Juvenile Hall.
* Performs case management services to youth and their families; conducts intake assessments and develops individualized treatment plans including behavior modification goals; provides crisis intervention, re-entry planning and referral as required; facilitates and co-facilitates group sessions to provide supportive counseling and self-help education.
* Reviews medical orders; ensures youth receive prescribed medication when appropriate; performs first aid when needed; may complete routine medical screening.
* Oversees control room; compiles, updates, and generates reports on youth in custody; completes and maintains files; verifies and ensures accuracy of data; documents daily activities, behavioral observations, and general information; monitors and records progress on counseling goals.
* Supervises on-site visitations; remains alert for potential problems and takes measures to reduce tension and avoid violence.
* Transports youth to and from the court, medical and dental appointments, work sites, and other juvenile correctional facilities.

Deputy Probation Officer I:
Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in criminal justice, social science, behavioral science, or a closely related field; OR
Equivalent to an associate's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in criminal justice, social science, behavioral science, or a closely related field; AND
Two (2) years of experience working with members of the public, keeping records, interpreting and applying laws and regulations, and working with people from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Deputy Probation Officer II:
In addition to the qualifications listed above, one (1) year of experience at a level equivalent to the County's class of Deputy Probation Officer I, including the required Probation Officer and/or Juvenile Corrections Officer CORE training, depending upon assignment, 832 PC training, and CPR/First Aid training.
Deputy Probation Officer III:
In addition to the qualifications listed in Deputy Probation Officer I, two (2) years of experience at a level equivalent to the County's class of Deputy Probation Officer II,
Certifications and Licenses:
* Must possess a valid US driver's license upon date of application. Must obtain California driver's license following hire date per California DMV regulations.
* Must successfully complete and obtain the following department provided trainings within the first year of employment :
* A Standards and Training Probation Officer and/or Juvenile Corrections Officer CORE certificate certified by the Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC)
* A certificate of completion of Penal Code 832 Course in Arrest, Search and Seizure issued by California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training.; and
* A CPR/First Aid certification by the authority of the Board of State and Community Corrections Training Manual.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
* Maintain California Board of State and Community Corrections physical standards including mobility, physical strength and stamina to respond to emergency situations and perform assigned duties.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
These positions have peace officer status under Penal Code Section 830.5 and may require incumbents to be armed. All Deputy Probation Officers will be expected to participate in a continuum of force training program which includes control of aggression, tactical negotiations, unarmed defensive tactics, and use of pepper spray. The City's Public Works Department (PWD) is seeking an individual whose values align with the values of the City's employees. The Department of Public Works is responsible for delivering capital improvement projects for a wide variety of City facilities and infrastructure, maintaining City facilities and fleet assets, facilitating, and regulating development activities, and providing animal care and services.
Position Duties
San Jose Animal Care Services, a division in the Public Works Department is currently seeking to fill one (1) full-time Animal Shelter Coordinator, Foster vacancy.
Salary range for this classification is $34.32 - $41.77/hour. This salary range includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates' qualifications and experience.
The Animal Shelter Coordinator, Foster position has the responsibility to provide humane handling and care for animals sheltered at San Jose's Animal Care Center and those in foster homes with a focus on building and maintaining relationships with foster volunteers, coordinating foster placements, tracking and following-up on animals in foster care, and managing the logistics associated with these functions. This position reports to the designated Animal Shelter Operations Supervisor and has lead responsibilities for Animal Care Attendants and program-related volunteers.
This position will undergo 4 - 6 weeks of training during normal business hours. This position may be required to work weekends, holidays, rotating shifts, and respond to emergency animal services assignments.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
* Establish and maintain connections with foster volunteers and networks to enhance collaboration and support, align efforts, and achieve goals.
* Maintain an organized, accessible list, including contact information of foster volunteers, and their preferred placements.
* Assist in identifying animals from the shelter that are suitable for fostering.
* Communicate regularly with foster volunteers and ACS staff regarding the status of animals, including any medical requirements, adoption waivers, etc.
* Oversee foster program to ensure resources and guidance are provided to foster volunteers so they may care for animals effectively.
* Work closely with the DPW Public Information Manager to promote ACS foster programs to the public.
* Monitor and observe animals for signs of illness or injury and seek medical care as necessary or separate sick and injured animals for observation; administer first aid or minor treatments to animals; assist the Shelter Veterinarian and/or Animal Health Technician in minor medical procedures such as vaccinations; quarantine potentially infectious animals, including those which may be rabid.
* Conduct behavior evaluations as needed for cats, dogs, and other animals.
* Humanely euthanize and disposes of animals as necessary.
* Act as a lead in the animal shelter over entry level animal care personnel, such as Animal Care Attendants; assign, schedule, inspect work, provide technical direction, determine priorities, and train staff and volunteers. May approve timecards and give input to the supervisor regarding performance evaluations, hiring, promotion, termination, and discipline of employees.
* Perform administrative duties such as completing and maintaining records (i.e., feeding, care needs, and holding periods for impounded animals, etc.), generating operational reports, maintaining inventories of food, equipment, supplies, animals, etc.
* Ability to handle animals humanely and safely using approved protocols and practices.
* Skilled in using the proper control techniques on animals entering the shelter.
Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects up to 100 pounds while handling animals and equipment. Employees may work outside and be exposed to inclement weather, may be exposed to blood borne pathogens while using hypodermic needles on animals, may be exposed to animal scratches and bites, and may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, fumes, odors, gases, chemicals, pollens, and other airborne irritants.

Minimum Qualifications
Education:High School Diploma
Experience:One (1) year of experience similar in nature to an Animal Services Officer or Animal Care Attendant with the City of San José or two (2) years of experience in the care and handling of animals in a public or private facility that cares for and houses animals.
Certifications:
* Valid California Driver's License
* Note: Incumbents will be required to obtain euthanasia certification within one year following employment.

Job Expertise - Demonstrates knowledge of and experience with applicable professional/technical principles and practices, Citywide and departmental procedures/policies and federal and state rules and regulations. Experience with a foster program, valid certification as a Registered Veterinary Technician, Euthanasia certification, ability to administer vaccinations, ability to recognize animal diseases, and the ability to evaluate temperament and behavior in dogs and cats is highly desirable.

Teamwork & Interpersonal Skills - Develops effective relationships with co-workers and supervisors by helping others accomplish tasks and using collaboration and conflict resolution skills.
Computer Skills- Experienced with common business computer applications including but not limited to: MS Outlook, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Access, and MS Excel. Chameleon experience is a plus.
Communication Skills - Effectively conveys information and expresses thoughts and facts clearly, orally and in writing; demonstrates effective use of listening skills; displays openness to other people's ideas and thoughts.
