Ensuring effective implementation of positive social skill teaching strategies by conducting monthly classroom observations focused on staff adherence to students' IEP and Behavior Intervention/Treatment Plan goals. Providing guidance, training, and support to teachers regarding classroom schedules, student data management, and transition planning to ensure appropriate services aligned with Individualized Education Plans and targeted goals. Assessing student progress through consistent analysis of classroom data collection, providing targeted training and support to staff in response to identified student behavioral needs. Conducting timely crisis assessments and coordinating immediate intervention with appropriate authorities to ensure student safety and wellbeing. Staying current with research-based practices, emerging trends, and best practices in school social work and special education support. Responding constructively and proactively to both formal and informal performance feedback. Performing additional duties and responsibilities as assigned. ‖ Qualifications Required: Bachelor's degree or higher in social work or a closely related field of study. Master's degree or higher in social work or a closely related field of study preferred. Licensed currently or in the process of obtaining an IL state professional educator license (PEL). Licensed currently or in the process of obtaining an IL state school support personnel (SSP) social worker endorsement. Ability to obtain and maintain certification in company approved crisis management training. Prior experience providing social work services for children, preferably in an alternative, special education and/or behavioral health program setting. Prior experience and/or knowledge in alternative educational services for at-risk students with diverse needs at various levels. Highly skilled in working with children with severe learning disabilities, emotional disturbance and/or behavioral challenges. Prior experience and/or highly knowledgeable in working with students with individualized education plans (IEP's). Well-versed in applied behavior analysis (ABA) including positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS), effective teaching strategies, classroom management systems, data-based decision making, functional behavior assessment (FBA) and behavior intervention plans (BIP's). Highly skilled in building and maintaining effective relationships with students, parents, teachers and community and/or district partners. Ability to think and act quickly and calmly in an emergency situation and make independent decisions. Advanced oral and written communication, organization, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem solving, and decision-making ability. Job Summary: Northwestern University Mesulam Center for Cognitive Neurology and Alzheimer's Disease (Mesulam Center) is seeking an exceptional social worker who demonstrates a pronounced interest in working with persons with neurocognitive disorders and their families in a diversity of roles. The Social Worker will work as a team member to provide clinical care for persons living with dementia and their families and achieve the goals and objectives of the Outreach, Recruitment and Community Engagement (ORE) Core, the Miller Family Buddy Program, in addition to other psychosocial initiatives. Specifically, the Social Worker will provide clinical social work services for persons living with dementia and their caregiving families in the Neurobehavior and Memory Clinic of Northwestern Medical Group; contribute to the recruitment and retention of research participants that meet Center research priorities; manage and facilitate monthly care partner support groups; and participate in the coordination and planning of an annual scientific conference. In addition, they will participate in the preparation and review of annual progress reports and competitive renewal for the NIA and other funding agencies. The Mesulam Center is a multi-departmental component of the Feinberg School of Medicine. We specialize in the clinical care and scientific study of neurological diseases that interfere with cognition and behavior. Areas of emphasis include age-related memory, language-based and behavioral dementias. We are focused on Alzheimer's disease, Primary Progressive Aphasia and Frontotemporal Dementia. Our three interacting missions are to investigate the causes and clinical characteristics of neurodegenerative diseases, to ensure that our patients and families are the beneficiaries of the latest research advances, and to prepare future scientists and clinicians in our field. Specific Responsibilities: * Provide clinical social work services to patients and families of the Northwestern Medicine Neurobehavior and Memory Clinic and center research participants. Complete psychosocial assessments and provide education, counseling and linkage to appropriate community services. Collaborate with multi-disciplinary team of behavioral neurologists, neuropsychologists, psychiatrists, and other clinicians through weekly clinical rounds and patient care discussions. * Facilitate monthly caregiver support groups. * Participate in the coordination and planning of a major annual educational event - Alzheimer Day * Assist in the recruitment, coordination and program management of the Glen and Wendy Miller Family Buddy Program which pairs first year medical students with a person living with dementia for an enriching experience.
