    Job Description Summary/Objective: The Plant Operator oversees and ensures the efficient and productive operations of the assigned Concrete Batch Plant. The Plant Operator may float from plant to plant if not assigned to a specific location. Essential Functions: Assume all responsibilities of the Yard Operator in their absence. Oversee all plant operations and coordinate and monitor daily workload throughout the plant, in addition to monitoring plant cleanliness. Oversee all drivers, operators, and other personnel at the plant. Respond in a timely manner to all employee concerns and/or complaints and escalate concerns and disciplinary action to the Area Production Manager as necessary. Coordinate scheduling with Dispatch and monitor driver activity to ensure customer needs are being met in an efficient manner. Respond to all complaints and concerns in a timely manner. Maintain adequate levels of all supplies and products (i.e., fuel, cement, admixtures, fiber mesh, etc.) and maintain accurate and current reports as required. Ensure that the concrete plant and related equipment are operating properly at all times by inspecting the plant for greasing, checking oil fluid levels, adding grease and oil as required, and keeping plant and equipment clean and free of excess material. Maintain proper levels of aggregates and admixtures, including keeping the hoppers full of aggregates. Notify the Area Production Manager of impending shortages in a timely manner. Ensure compliance with company safety regulations and all company environmental regulations and notify personnel immediately of any potential problems. Take samples and perform tests as necessary and complete required documentation/reports. Inform Technical Services of any quality problems that need resolving. Keep equipment and plant site clean at all times by washing the outside of the plant and equipment whenever necessary, maintaining plant grounding, picking up trash and other items from grounds, and making sure that all equipment is in its proper place. Operate vehicles and equipment in a safe manner. Perform all pre and post-trip inspections and complete daily inspection reports. Follow all environmental regulations and clean up any excess material that could cause environmental problems. Perform miscellaneous duties and outside labor as requested, which may include, but not limited to, cleaning up around the plant, sweeping, shoveling, moving wheelbarrows, picking up equipment or supplies. Non-Essential Functions: Assist with the clean-up of concrete and material spills. Fill in for colleagues (at other locations) as needed. JOB SPECIFICATIONS Work Environment: Work time will be split between indoors/office and outdoors/field Exposure to dust and fumes/offensive smells. Exposure to chemicals such as concrete, chemical admixtures, truck cleaner, grease and oil. Close proximity to moving mechanical parts. Noise level will be moderate to loud. Physical Demands: Lift a maximum weight of 50 lbs., repetitively lift 50 lbs., carry approximately 50 lbs., push/pull approximately 50 lbs., and pinch/grip approximately 25 lbs. Reach overhead and reach away from the body. Sit 4 hours per day, walk 3 hours per day, stand 2 hours per day, and climb or kneel the other 1 hour per day. ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS Experience: Experience operating a front-end loader or other heavy equipment preferred. Special Skills: Written communication, verbal communication, and basic mathematical skills. Basic computer knowledge. Ability to learn and use the company dispatch system, iPad, and company software applications. Able to compute basic material calculations. Able to exhibit a high level of confidentiality. Excellent organizational skills. Must be able to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner. The Excavator Operator is responsible for the safety of employees, pedestrians, traffic, and equipment that enter their work area. The operator must be able to achieve maximum production from the equipment and have knowledge of hazards associated with equipment operation. Responsibilities: Operate the equipment in a proper and safe manner in support of underground utility projects. Visually check for utilities, if utility locates are not marked or cannot be defined. Inspect and conduct general maintenance to the equipment. Assist the fuel driver in fueling your equipment. Grease the equipment daily. Keep equipment clean from dirt and excess grease. Change buckets on equipment. Check oil, battery, transmission, hydraulic systems, tires, radiators, tracks, and back-up alarms for the proper levels or operation prior to starting the day's work. An equipment inspection report must be filled out and turned in weekly to either your foreman or your designated shop facility. Report all equipment breakdowns immediately. Take direction from the Foreman or in their absence their designated appointee. Always be near or on the machine during the day unless you are directed otherwise by a supervisor. Assist the crew in other useful work as directed, when the machine is not in use. Attend weekly tool-box talks and all other company safety meetings. Work in all types of weather conditions or climate, unless there is an immediate threat of danger. Requirements: Must have 2 years of prior experience operating an excavator in support of underground utility projects. Must possess a current DC Operators License. Knowledgeable about the machine, its correct method of operation, and limitations. Requirements: * Must have 2 years of prior experience operating an excavator in support of underground utility projects. * Must possess a current DC Operators License. * Knowledgeable about the machine, its correct method of operation, and limitations. * The position of an operator requires the individual to possess the physical ability to perform the following task for a minimum of 8 hours per day. * Negotiate rough terrain. * Climb in and out of manholes, excavations, and/or other confined or enclosed spaces. * Climb up and down from equipment either to operate it or to perform routine maintenance checks. * Carry and use trade associated tools, equipment, or material up to a weight of 95 pounds. * Have adequate vision to observe and follow hand signals. * Stand, stoop, bend, reach, climb, walk, or sit. * Perform all associated job functions of a laborer, which includes, but is not limited to: constant physical labor such as shoveling, using sledge or claw hammers, mixing or breaking concrete, operating pipe or chain saws, carrying equipment or materials, or any other related duty. * Maintain the following tools to make minor repairs and adjustments. * Standard Wrench Set from 3/8" to 3/4" * Standard Socket Set from 3/8" to 3/4" * 1/2" Drive Ratchet * Large and Small Phillips Head Screwdrivers * Large and Small Slotted Head Screwdrivers * 10" or 12" Adjustable Wrench * Hammer * Pliers * Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
