Job Summary:
The MedicalAssistant professional is responsible for assisting practitioners in providing care to their patients. The duties of the MedicalAssistant includes, but is not limited to, recording and updating medical histories and contact information in patient files, scheduling patient appointments, and performing standard care procedures like drawing blood, checking vitals or collecting lab samples.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean.
Escorting patients into exam rooms.
Show patients to examination rooms and prepare them for the physician.
Record patients' medical history, vital statistics, or information such as test results in medical records.
Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician.
Explain treatment procedures, medications, or physicians' instructions to patients.
Proper disposal of any waste materials in Biohazard or SHARPS containers
Organizing, planning, and prioritizing work in conjunction with the provider and Facilities Manager
Inventory of medical supplies and equipment.
Perform administrative clerical work in medical settings
Maintain inventory of medications for patients and procedure area
May operate x-ray or other equipment to administer routine diagnostic testing
Cleans and sterilizes medical equipment; observes the principles of sterile technique in performing duties
Prepares all pre screening for procedures and surgical consults
Fits and instructs on proper use of DME
Performing audits as needed on related tasks
Other duties and tasks as assigned
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required
Completion of an accredited MedicalAssistant program required; MedicalAssistant Certification or Registered MedicalAssistant strongly preferred
Excellent interpersonal skills
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patients and other external parties in a professional, courteous and friendly manner at all times
Must be detail-oriented and highly organized
Firm grasp on medical practices, administrative processes, and organizational policies
Strong knowledge and understanding of electronic medical record systems
Knowledge of diagnostic testing equipment and sterilization equipment
Knowledge of patient care and examination procedures
Must be able to maintain confidentiality at all times
Bilingual (Spanish/English) strongly preferred

Work Shift
Job Summary:
Performs assigned patient care duties under the direction of a licensed provider (MD/PA/NP) or RN. Responsible for performing CMA clinical duties to include, but not limited to obtaining vital signs, administering limited profile of medications/injections per approved policy, performing simple diagnostic tests, collecting specimens, drawing blood, cleaning equipment, ordering/stocking supplies, and maintaining exam rooms in an outpatient care setting. Assists in emergencies as directed by licensed provider or RN. Duties are practice site‐specific and may fluctuate based on location.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Completion of Ambulatory Intake to include: Interviewing patients for information about the visit and any recent problems. Obtains vital signs, height and weight, medical, family, and social history. Verified that one current problem exists. Update allergies and medications and accurately record findings on intake form in EMR. May be required to perform EKGs, ABIs, six‐minute walk tests, etc.
Assists physicians with exams and procedures. Prepares room with supplies and instruments. Provides education and emotional support to the patient throughout the procedure. Properly disposes of biohazard waste. Documents procedure in AD Hoc note in EMR.
Answers triage nurse line or retrieves voicemail messages. Provides information to caller promptly (within 24 hours). Documents disposition/request for information via inbox message in PowerChart to patients physician. Consults with RN/PA in the clinic as necessary in absence of a physician. Maintains contact with supported providers during nonclinic days via phone, PowerChart inbox messages, etc.
Obtains labs (to include blood, urine, and nasal swabs) per hospital policy; documents and enters charges accordingly. May administer seasonal flu/pneumonia vaccines and other site‐specific premeasured injections.
Maintains assigned exam rooms. Wipes down exam table, equipment, BP cuffs, scales, computer keyboard. Restocks linen and medical supplies. Annotates same on room log. Performs assigned patient care duties under the direction of a licensed provider (MD/PA/NP) or RN. Completion of Ambulatory Intake to include: Interviewing patients for information about the visit and any recent problems. Obtains vital signs, height and weight, medical, family, and social history. Verified that one current problem exists. Update allergies and medications and accurately record findings on intake form in EMR. May be required to perform EKGs, ABIs, six‐minute walk tests, etc.
Assists physicians with exams and procedures. Prepares room with supplies and instruments. Provides education and emotional support to the patient throughout the procedure. Properly disposes of biohazard waste. Documents procedure in AD Hoc note in EMR.
Answers triage nurse line or retrieves voicemail messages. Provides information to caller promptly (within 24 hours). Documents disposition/request for information via inbox message in PowerChart to patients physician. Consults with RN/PA in the clinic as necessary in absence of a physician. Maintains contact with supported providers during nonclinic days via phone, PowerChart inbox messages, etc.
Obtains labs (to include blood, urine, and nasal swabs) per hospital policy; documents and enters charges accordingly. May administer seasonal flu/pneumonia vaccines and other site‐specific premeasured injections.
Maintains assigned exam rooms. Wipes down exam table, equipment, BP cuffs, scales, computer keyboard. Restocks linen and medical supplies. Annotates same on room log. Monitor expiration dates on all applicable supplies. Maintains assigned areas of the clinic by completing environmental sweeps monthly or more often.
Front office duties as assigned (registration, scheduling, payment collection, check‐in/out, insurance authorization, etc.) Other duties as assigned.
