OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:
Perform and document an initial exam, evaluating data to identify problems and determine a therapy diagnosis prior to intervention. Review physician's referral and patient's medical records to help determine diagnosis and occupational therapy treatment required.
Provide information regarding appropriate selection/use of adaptive equipment and support programs. Help to restore physical function, improve mobility, relieve pain, and improve performance of functional activities.
Obtain patients' informed consent to proposed interventions.
Perform manual therapy, direct therapeutic exercises and activities. Provide patient education, neuromuscular education, orthotic fabrication, and wound care services.
Identify and document goals, anticipated progress, and plans for reevaluation.
Evaluate effects of treatment at various stages and adjust treatments to achieve maximum benefit.
Record prognosis, treatment, response, and progress in patient's chart or enter information into computer. Test and measure patient's strength, motor development and function, sensory perception, functional capacity, or respiratory or circulatory efficiency and record data.
Discharge patient from occupational therapy when goals or projected outcomes have been attained and provide for appropriate follow-up care or referrals.
Instruct patient and family in treatment procedures to be continued at home.
Maintain confidentiality of Personal Health Information (PHI) in accordance with company Policies and State and Federal laws, including OHSA and HIPAA regulations.

The Colorado Mental Health Institute in Fort Logan (CMHHIFL) is one of two state hospitals serving our community. The vision of CMHHIFL is to provide the highest quality mental health services to persons with complex, serious, and persistent mental illness within the resources available. Our mission is to support those individuals in achieving their recovery goals and reaching their full potential. CMHHIFL provides inpatient treatment to adult patients, generally between the ages of 18-59. The hospital currently has 138 adult inpatient beds and over six treatment milieus serving civil and forensic individuals. Medical services, occupational therapy, neuropsychological-rehabilitation services, and trauma-informed care services are available for all patients throughout the hospital.

The Occupational Therapist position works in the 24-hour State psychiatric hospital with individuals voluntarily and involuntarily committed for treatment. Patients receiving treatment at CMHHIFL have severe and persistent mental illness and may have traumatic brain injury, trauma disorders, and other complex dynamics. Each treatment team is multidisciplinary, including psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, addiction specialists, nurses, physicians, and mental health clinicians; Therapeutic Activities Department therapists (e.g., therapeutic recreation specialists (i.e., CTRS)) also provide therapy on each treatment unit. In addition, the hospital offers dietary, peer, and chaplain services.
This position exists to provide services as an Occupational Therapist (OT) through occupational therapy assessment, treatment, programming, and consultation throughout the hospital. Direct care services may be provided through therapeutic group interventions, specialized assessments, individual interventions, and community outings when indicated. OT theories and practices are applied to person-centered treatment, including administration of a variety of assessments including functional cognition (e.g., Allen Cognitive Disabilities Model battery), occupational performance, and other standardized tools (e.g., KELS, Sensory Profile) and non-standardized assessments (e.g., I/ADLs). Treatment planning and implementation as well as consultation and indirect care are performed in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams throughout CMHHIFL. This position is required to regularly document in the behavioral electronic health record (BEHR) for treatment, quality assurance, and billing purposes. The OT incorporates findings into occupational therapy treatment, completes individualized treatment plans, provides safe treatment, and provides services routinely on weekdays, select evenings, and possibly weekends (as deemed necessary). This position ensures the maintenance of equipment and supplies and engages in formal quality and performance improvement activities. Treatment Implementation:
* Treatment implementation is conducted according to Clinical Services department procedures, standards of practice, and ethics to ensure treatment quality, safety, and effectiveness.
* Utilizes hospital-approved low-level and crisis management techniques across teams. Treatment is reviewed, changed, modified, and/or terminated based on patient response to treatment or significant change in the patient's functioning.
* May provide group and individual treatment, as well as community reintegration sessions and/or outings when clinically indicated throughout the week.
Assessment and Planning:
* Treatment teams may refer individuals to the OT for services, and/or the OT practitioner may identify individuals in need of such services.
* When appropriate, the OT determines the most appropriate assessment measures to utilize, develops approved interventions to meet adult inpatient treatment needs, and encourages the utilization of occupational therapy concepts in the patient's recovery.
* Assessment develops specific treatment interventions to meet individualized treatment needs not addressed by the overall program.
* Collaborates in a multi-disciplinary manner for inclusion in the patient's care planning. Treatment goals and objectives are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-specific (SMART).
Documentation:
* As an individual contributor to assessments, re-assessments, and treatment, progress, and discharge planning are completed within the BEHR and according to hospital and Clinical Services department policy and procedures, CO OT practice act, and national standards of practice.
* Documentation must be individualized, capture the progress of each individual, and be directly linked to specific treatment goals and interventions. In addition to EHR documentation.
* Contributes to budgeting as indicated to facilitate programming and activity needs.
Clinical Services and Hospital Consultation:
* Consults hospital-wide for all OT-related patient needs and referrals.
* Consultation is rooted in discipline specific theories, frameworks, and/or models of practice. Consultative services may lead to direct or indirect care of the patient, and as such interventions are created, reviewed, modified, or discontinued.
* Consults with the multidisciplinary team and provides education, training, and modeling regarding OT related interventions for a group or population (e.g., wheelchair positioning for transfers).
* Consults with hospital-wide colleagues on a variety of client population matters such as occupational performance and the environment (e.g., DME and shower room access). This position may help contribute to coordinating and facilitating hospital-wide activities and training.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education/Licensure/Certification/Experience:
* Current, valid Colorado State licensure or certification related to the work assignment
* One (1) year of professional experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position

* Must possess and maintain an unencumbered OT license to practice in CO via the CO Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA). Must obtain a CO OT license before hire.

* Graduated from an ACOTE accredited program with a degree in occupational therapy.
* Experience working as a licensed Occupational Therapist with the adult SMI (or SPMI) population in civil and/or forensic inpatient treatment settings.

The Hand Therapist is responsible for the delivery of quality hand therapy services in accordance with the patient's plan of care for outpatients with hand therapy needs.
OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:
Perform and document an initial exam, evaluating data to identify problems and determine a therapy diagnosis prior to intervention. Review physician's referral and patient's medical records to help determine diagnosis and occupational therapy treatment required.
Provide information regarding appropriate selection/use of adaptive equipment and support programs. Help to restore physical function, improve mobility, relieve pain, and improve performance of functional activities.
Obtain patients' informed consent to proposed interventions.
Perform manual therapy, direct therapeutic exercises and activities. Provide patient education, neuromuscular education, orthotic fabrication, and wound care services.
Identify and document goals, anticipated progress, and plans for reevaluation.
Evaluate effects of treatment at various stages and adjust treatments to achieve maximum benefit.
Record prognosis, treatment, response, and progress in patient's chart or enter information into computer.
Discharge patient from occupational therapy when goals or projected outcomes have been attained and provide for appropriate follow-up care or referrals.
Instruct patient and family in treatment procedures to be continued at home.
Maintain confidentiality of Personal Health Information (PHI) in accordance with company Policies and State and Federal laws, including OHSA and HIPAA regulations.

Close working relationships with 10+ upper extremity surgeons. Offices are set up to combine therapy/ surgeon clinic working spaces in the same building or office suite to allow for collaborative visits, close communication, and interdisciplinary care.
70-80% of case load includes post-operative patients. Main referring MDs take call at nearby hospitals, so caseload may include trauma/ complex patients.
Collaborative environment: OCC employs 25+ Occupational Therapists, more than 80% of which are CHTs. Each location has several OTs per office.
Continuing Education: OCC has a non-accredited hand therapy fellowship program. Therapists have the option to conduct didactic sessions with our fellow. Continuing education benefits are offered to salaried employees. Additionally, 2X/year continuing education meetings held by OCC promote onsite continuing education. Therapists have the opportunity to shadow physician clinics, surgeries, and attend lunch and learns, protocol meetings, and clinical discussions with surgeons and therapists.
1:1 Patient Care: Therapists are scheduled with one patient at a time. Evaluations are scheduled for 60 minutes, and most follow up visits are scheduled for 30 minutes.
Therapy techs: Available for assistance if wanted.
