Overview
POSITION SUMMARY: The Lead Respiratory Therapist oversees the personnel and the daily operations of the department to assure the delivery of high quality care in all procedures and testing performed by respiratory care services. The Lead will perform, oversee and lead the mission partners performing clinical tasks. It will be the Lead's responsibility to adhere to all policies and procedures and assure that all patient care delivered by Respiratory Care Services is in compliance with hospital standards and meets all requirements of certifying agencies. The orientation of new mission partners and the ongoing evaluation of present mission partners will be the Lead's direct responsibility.
Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Graduate of an AMA Accredited Associate Degree Program in Respiratory Therapy. Experience:
At least three years of respiratory therapy experience with approximately two years working in critical care.
Licensure/ Certification:
Current Respiratory Care Practitioner license in State of Illinois. Registered / Certified respiratory therapist from the National Board for Respiratory Care.
American Heart BLS Certification.
American Heart ACLS certification or become certified within 90 days of hire.
Other skills/ knowledge:
Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate effectively with staff and other healthcare members.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Respiratory Therapist works in accordance with evidenced based policies and procedures of the Medical Center with all patient populations. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide respiratory therapy to patients as ordered by the prescribing physician that is appropriate to all the ages of the patients served. Education:
* Associate's degree, Successful completion of respiratory therapy program from an accredited school.
Experience:
* Must have basic electronic medical record documentation skills.
Licensure/ Certification:
* BLS required, NRP after 6 months of hire. Must be a credentialed Registered Respiratory Therapist by the National Board of Respiratory Care.
* Must have a current Respiratory Care Practitioner license and current National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) credentials if credentialed after July 1, 2002 or a new graduate therapist must successfully pass both the NBRC TMC (The Multiple Choice) and CSE (Clinical Simulation Exam) exams. Proof of Application must be made for appropriate state licensure before orientation to the department can begin. Licensure must be obtained within six months of hire for new graduates per the Licensure Practice Act.
Other Skills/ Knowledge:
* At SFMC Peoria; NICU therapists must have current NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) card.
* At SFMC Peoria; transport therapist must complete agility, hearing and helicopter safety training.

Uses Respiratory therapy processes to support assessment of patient utilizing a variety of skills such as pulmonary diagnostics, chest radiograph, hemodynamic values, laboratory values, and correlates blood gases and electrolytes. Can identify and address the special needs of patient population specific to department services.
Operates specialized ventilators in critical and non-critical care venues. Assists physician with bedside or other procedures as applicable to facility.
Provides medication treatments and therapies per physician order and/or patient driven respiratory protocols as prescribed.
Cleans, maintains, and ensures proper functionality of equipment. Troubleshoots equipment as necessary and identifies the need for service and/or repair.
Educates and instructs patients in purpose, technique, self-care, goal of therapy, and disease management.
Facilitates clinical problem solving and collaborates with other departments to provide education on managing patients.
Under physician direction, the respiratory therapist must be able to adapt and comply to policies and procedures for a variety of different service areas, perform tasks and/or special duties as required by assignment and maintain performance standards and organizational behaviors.
Demonstrates effective communication, feedback, and conflict resolution skills. Provides clear, concise, timely, and accurate patient handoff.
