There will be six part-time, 2-12 hour shifts a week available.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Summer Intern Program provides an opportunity for nursing students to advance their knowledge and skills in providing patient care. Reports to Patient Care Manager. Partnered with an RN who develops and supervises the Student Nurse Intern's experience while retaining full accountability and responsibility for the care of assigned patients. Performs basic nursing procedures appropriate for the age and/or development of the patients served on assigned unit. In addition to performing normal duties of a Nursing Assistant, must demonstrate competency in technical nursing skills generally learned/acquired before beginning the last year of a nursing program; job duties will expand as skills are learned and competencies are documented by RN partner. The following are general characteristics of this job, although duties may vary by the shift and/or unit assigned.
Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
* Must have completed a clinical rotation and is within one year of completion of their nursing program.
* Current BLS for Healthcare Provider card- American Heart Association. Work requires the interpersonal skills necessary to comfort patients, family members and/or significant others; and to communicate effectively with other patient care providers.
* Must have a GPA of at least 2.5
The job incumbent is required to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care appropriate to the age of the patients served on their assigned unit(s). This requires that the incumbent demonstrates knowledge of the princi ples of growth and devel opment as well as the physical, emotional and psycho-social needs of the patient population served. Ability to turn PC hardware on/off and work with a mouse; familiar with basic elements of a Windows environment and keyboarding; perform basic computer tasks with instruction; comfortable with learning new applications. Work requires analytical ability necessary to prioritize work load.

Initiates, maintains and discontinues IV therapy; performs mixing of medications according to protocols.
Assesses and provides basic to complex patient education and counseling on the performance of tasks, skills, treatment and self-care integrating health promotion and preventive aspects of care. Follows through with necessary procedure or test requests, prescription refills, new appointment times and referrals to other facilities or services. POSITION SUMMARY: The Summer Intern Program provides an opportunity for nursing students to advance their knowledge and skills in providing patient care. Reports to Patient Care Manager. Partnered with an RN who develops and supervises the Student Nurse Intern's experience while retaining full accountability and responsibility for the care of assigned patients. Performs basic nursing procedures appropriate for the age and/or development of the patients served on assigned unit. In addition to performing normal duties of a Nursing Assistant, must demonstrate competency in technical nursing skills generally learned/acquired before beginning the last year of a nursing program; job duties will expand as skills are learned and competencies are documented by RN partner. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have a GPA of at least 2.5.

Creates a positive patient experience by assisting patients with their activities of daily living including assisting with baths, ambulating, feeding, skin care, personal and oral hygiene and making occupied and unoccupied beds as measured by patient satisfaction quality audits and direct observation.
Contributes to quality care and safety by assisting and performing procedures such as performing dressing changes, enemas, ostomy care, toileting, turning, cough and deep breathing, catheter care, collection of biological specimens, measuring and recording intake and output of fluids.
Contributes to exceptional patient satisfaction by establishing a compassionate environment, timely responses to patients' needs, open communication and providing emotional and psychological support.
Contributes to safety and quality care by relaying information via charting and communicating to team members.
Contributes to achievement of exceptional health care by functioning as a member of the team as measured by active participation in department initiatives, unit meetings, committees and special projects.
Informs licensed nurse of any changes in patient condition/needs, of patient complaints, and of patient/significant other educational needs.
Prepares patients for discharge and accompanies them upon dismissal as indicated.
Stocks and maintains supplies and equipment in keeping with patient care needs and cost containment. Utilizes time and supplies economically and conscientiously.
Orients new patients and significant others to the nursing unit.
Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
Current enrollment in an accredited school of nursing and completion of first clinical rotation, or no more than 90-days post conferral date
