Job Summary
PSE&G is seeking a new member for the Technical Training team within the Transformation & Centralized Service organization at our Edison NJ location. The successful candidate will advance the training that supports a safe, skilled, and efficient utility work force working in concert with a team of training professionals for PSE&G's Substation Operator occupational group.
The role is responsible to conduct the instruction and learning evaluation required to provide apprentice and incumbent employees & contractor personnel (as required) with the technical skills and knowledge necessary to perform Substation Operator Technician construction and maintenance in accordance with job specifications, contract obligations, Substation Operator Technical Construction Manuals, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
This Training & Development Specialist - Substation Operator is proficient in teaching courses related to their subject-matter, is contributing as an instructor of general electric distribution courses, is a leader in the classroom, and has oversite of 6-12 BU students in class while training and has a minimum of 2-years of positive evaluations from management observations of them facilitating training classes; coaching and developing BU trainees in the classroom. Has become proficient in teaching general electric distribution classes, such as Substation Awareness, Safety Tagging, and/or DC/AC. This individual makes Annual Content Updates to curriculum. The Training & Development Specialist - Substation Operator Technician will be a member of relevant training committees and all appropriate Occupational Work Groups. The Training and Development Specialist - Substation Operator Technician is eligible for on-call field assignments as a supervisor, and available for field supervisory shifts.
Job Responsibilities
* Instruct electric distribution courses. Responsible to coach and develop trainees in their classroom. Become proficient in teaching other general electric distribution courses, such as Substation Awareness, Safety Tagging, and/or DC/AC
* Content development updates. The individual actively works to annually develop learning content for their courses, work with learning technology, and time management skills.
* Develop relationships with subject matter experts to identify training needs and related content. Develop relationships with external subject matter experts to identify industry best practices.
* Use learning technology, Analysis, design, and evaluate apprentice and incumbent employee technical training.
* Understand and explain key training metrics associated with the Manager's Dashboard.
* Be a supervisor of work by BU employees on field assignments in the Division.
Job Specific Qualifications
* High school graduate or GED
* Minimum of 5 years utility experience
* Worked as a Substation Operator Technician or as a Substation Operator Technician Supervisor with a strong background in electric distribution: Substation Operator Technician construction, maintenance, troubleshooting and safe work practices.
* Demonstrated knowledge of multiple topics that include pole climbing, 3-phase electrical systems, transformer wiring, load pick-up jumpers, live high voltage work, phasing and operation of 13kV switches, etc., to conduct hands on credibly and safely.
* Ability to learn and apply training and development processes of analysis, design, development, evaluation, and alternative delivery methods, including automated computer-based applications.
* Must be proficient in use of Microsoft Excel, Power Point, and Word
* Strong oral and written communication skills
* Must possess a valid U. S. driver's license and maintain a satisfactory driving record.
Desired:
* BS/BA degree in engineering technology, education, training, or instructional design
* Knowledge/experience or the ability to learn evolving systems such as OMS, GIS, OP2002.
* Knowledge/experience in assessment facilitation, need/task analysis, instructional design/development, and instructional evaluation.
* Experience in joint union/management team assessment.
* Supervisory and/or project management related experience.

**Responsibilities**
+ Conducts long-term grid import planning analyses and transmission interconnection assessments and projects. Manages various large design projects from inception to construction completion with follow-through on policies, procedures, rules, rates, completion dates, and ensuring compliance of electrical designs
+ Supports the company's electrical distribution system by developing and designing plans, identifying necessary resources and providing cost estimates and options for the construction of distribution facilities. Makes decisions that have a direct impact on project, course, timing, scope, and budget
+ Performs field inspections to gather data relevant to the planning and development review process and to verify that planning development projects comply with approved plans
+ Assesses the capabilities of the regional distribution system and its compliance with the planning criteria
+ Conducts power flow studies, builds power flow models, and prepares economic analyses to develop short- and long-term distribution system plans
+ Ensures the distribution system performance meets reliability targets and that outages are analyzed for cause, trends and duration
+ Coordinates activities with other internal personnel and/or organizations to ensure compliance and appropriate follow-through of policies, procedures, rules, rates, and completion dates applicable to his/her assigned projects.
+ Stays up-to-date of current industry practices, standards and customer needs. Interacts with a diverse customer base on meeting electrical design needs and is responsible for providing successful outcomes for the customer and SCE on assigned or requested projects
+ Provides training and support, assessing and managing the workload when necessary

**Minimum Qualifications**
+ Three or more years of experience performing electrical utility distribution service planning.
+ Possess a valid Class C Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Thorough knowledge of engineering principles, construction standards, and industry practices.
+ Experience with CAD based design.
+ Experience determining scope of work, method of service, and construction methods for overhead and underground facilities, also analyzing and/or
+ designing engineered civil drawings.
+ Experience preparing distribution work orders or construction plans on projects.
+ Experience managing multiple and/or sensitive projects and functioning effectively under tight time constraints, shifting priorities and making critical decisions with minimal supervision.
+ Experience as senior staff, providing leadership, direction, training and mentoring to staff.
+ Accurately analyze information and make sound decisions that have considerable business impact.
