Job Description
What you're responsible for:
Perform pre-and post-trip inspections of assigned equipment.
Report any unsafe situations or service-related issues to dispatch.
Report service problems, blocked containers, or any potential safety hazards.
Report any incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage to dispatch.
Ensure that equipment is kept in a good operating condition.
Perform assigned duties on roll of or end dump delivery and hauling routes.

This position is responsible for safely transporting K-5 students from partner schools to Stars program sites using a Stars-owned van. The VanDriver interacts directly with youth and is designated as a Mandated Reporter under California law.

Work Schedule and Availability
Tuesday through Thursday, 2:00 PM to 4:00PM
In addition to scheduled driving hours, the employee is required to maintain availability for the following work-related activities:
Weekly staff meetings on Mondays from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM
Tuesday morning produce pickup, typically between 7:00 AM and 11:00 AM

The Transportation Department operates Chautauqua Institution's passenger shuttle and tram system, which is a complementary system for patrons that regularly circulates throughout the grounds and special events. Shuttle buses also circulate in the main parking lot. Operating safely while providing an outstanding patron experience is part of the team's responsibility. The transportation system runs daily from 7:40 am to 8:00 pm with extended service hours for select events and programs.
About Your Compensation
Compensation for this position starts at $17.50/Hour and, with demonstrated experience and qualifications, candidates may earn up to $19.25/Hour.
About Your Work Day
Follows assigned on-grounds route to pick up and drop off guests on a tram.â¯
Maintains the safety of guests while operating the tram.
Ensures the tram is clean and presentable.
Conducts self in a professional and positive manner.
Provides excellent customer service including acknowledging guests, answering questions, and providing basic information. Assists guests with belongings, wheelchairs, etc… as needed.â¯â¯
Remains in uniform as required by department standards.â¯
Communicates with supervisors and colleagues about the status of guest requests and assigned tasks.â¯â¯
Reports all incidents and injuries to the appropriate supervisor, as required by law and policy.â¯
Informs supervisor of tram maintenance needs.
Special Requirements
Drivers must be a minimum of 21 years of age and have a valid/unexpired driver's license.
About the Referral Program
Chautauqua Institution's Referral Bonus Program is a talent solution to recruit, develop, and retain a diverse workforce that encompasses all the skills and experience necessary to deliver on our goals and objectives. Chautauqua Institution will provide a $500 referral bonus (less taxes) for active employees referring a new candidate who is hired and remains employed for at least 90-days from the first physical date of work. In the case of seasonal positions working less than 6-months, the new candidate must remain actively employed for at least 30-days from the first physical date of work and until the closing date of the season. The closing date of the season is the last Sunday in August.
About Your Schedule
Chautauqua Institution and Chautauqua Hotel Company offer flexible schedules, full and part-time, for seasonal employment during summer operations starting annually each June and concluding in August. Seasonal employment may be available earlier (pre-season) and beyond season (post-season) based on business needs and candidate availability. Schedules typically include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as a requirement.
While you will confirm your final schedule with management at the time of an interview and offer of employment, you should generally anticipate the following schedule options for this position:
Will work at least three shifts a week, including one Saturday or Sunday shift. Shifts are scheduled to cover 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 11:00 pm, seven days a week.

No employer-provided housing is available for this position. Applicants should plan to secure independent housing or reside within a commutable distance.

Needs to operate a truck/van safely and in compliance with motor vehicle laws at all times.
Be able to complete all assignments when required.
Being able to route re-assignments and changes in daily schedule: accept and comply with operational changes to attain greater efficiencies.
Able to constantly communicate information about the route to the Fleet Manager (especially events that could impact pick-up or delivery of food or completion of route schedule)
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent
A minimum of one year of experience working directly with psychiatrically disabled or addicted individuals.
Experience providing recreation to this population extremely important.
Knowledge of case management databases and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
