PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: As a member of the nephrology healthcare team, you will provide safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse. - Sets up, tests, and operates hemodialysis machines for patient treatments. - Obtains and documents necessary pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weight for each patient. - Evaluates vascular access pre-treatment and performs vascular access cannulation. - Evaluates intradialytic problems and provides intervention as prescribed by physician order or as directed. - Monitors patients' response to dialysis therapy. - Evaluates patient prior to termination of venous access and discontinues dialysis treatment according to established procedures. - Reports any significant information and/or change in patient condition directly to supervisor. - Enters all treatment data into the designated clinical application in an accurate and timely manner. - Collects, labels, appropriately prepares, and stores lab samples according to required laboratory specifications. - Cleans and disinfects dialysis machine surface, chair, equipment, and surrounding area between treatments according to facility policy. - Assists other healthcare members in providing patient education. - Prepares, organizes, and efficiently uses supplies and equipment to prevent waste. Position Highlights: Shift Schedule: Part Time, Nights Department: Phlebotomy Services Location: Winston Campus How You'll Impact Patient Care: Your responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: Adheres to the general Medical Center standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships and team building. Assures accurate and timely collection of blood specimens, according to departmental practices. Assures accurate identification and delivery of patient samples to appropriate lab sections. Follows proper safety and identification procedures when dealing with patients and/or specimens under any circumstance or environment. Demonstrates advanced knowledge of phlebotomy by serving as a willing resource to staff and applying knowledge in daily routines. Improves work skills through self-study and continuing education. Contributes to the smooth and efficient operation of the section and department. Protects self, coworkers and facility by following approval policies and procedures to prevent the spread of blood borne and/or airborne diseases. Exhibits and promotes the professional image of laboratories in accordance with hospital, department, and professional society philosophies, goals and standards of laboratory testing. Provides age-appropriate specimen collection in accordance with age specific guidelines for school age, adolescents, early adults, middle adults and/or late adults. Maintains inventory and supplies related to job activities and monitors expiration dates. Performs clerical functions including entry of lab orders into the LIS, printing and delivery of reports, filing reports, preparing requisitions, and obtaining information or entering information into the laboratory or hospital computer system. Performs specimen processing in accordance with laboratory policies. May perform waived testing. May be asked to perform additional duties as assigned. Education/Experience/Certifications to Qualify: High school graduate or equivalent required. Two-year age-appropriate phlebotomy experience preferred. A SCP, AMT, ASPT or equivalent certification from an accredited Phlebotomy training program that includes successful completion of a certification exam with passing scores. CPR certification required. HOURS: 10:00 AM- 2:00 PM TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: · Perform EKGs and transmit EKGs to a Cardiologist for interpretation when requested. · Be at their first case at the start of their assigned shift. · Self-Dispatches cases in a timely and effective manner. · Obtain all required documents related to the exam requested, and scan in documents to the appropriate patient file timely and efficiently. · Verify out all cases immediately upon completion. · Respond to all pages with in Fifteen (15) minutes. · Call into the dispatch department at designated time or no later than 45 minutes prior to their first case to obtain information regarding their beginning case load. · Respond to all pages within fifteen (15) minutes. · Care for equipment in a professional manner. Upon malfunction of any equipment, the manager should be notified immediately. · Demonstrate regular attendance. · Communicate efficiently and perform professionally with peers, supervisory staff and clients. · Maintain required driver's license, health requirements and operational requirements. · Drive to various client locations throughout an 8-hour workday.
