Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Structural Engineer (Hybrid) to be based in Houston, TX.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Undertaking design and planning activities on maritime projects - container terminals, mining/bulk, oil/gas, marinas, ports and harbors, coastal defense and development schemes.
Maritime design and planning, including maritime codes/standards such as USACE, PIANC, OCIMF.
Structural design for wharves, piles, sheet piles, dolphins, across the United States.
Independently prepare engineering related calculations and develop structural technical specifications, plans, and details.
Performs specific and moderate portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.
Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.
Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests.
Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered using modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments.
Identifies discrepancies in results.
Provides guidance to entry level engineers.
Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with little supervision.
Independently performs all the tasks necessary to complete primary design elements for engineering works.
Performance at this level requires developmental experience in a professional position.
Occasional short to medium term site visits may also become necessary depending on project requirements.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor of Science in CivilEngineering, Structural Engineering or related field + 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
Valid Driver's license required
Professional Engineering (PE) License
Preferred Qualifications:
Master of Science (with structural engineering concentration)
Ten (10) years or more of related experience
Experience in the design of marine structures including wharves, piles, sheet piles, and dolphins in seismic zones
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Knowledge of computer analysis and design software such as SAP 2000, RISA 3D, STAAD.Pro, LPILE, SAFE and (or equivalent)
Knowledge in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
Proficient in the use of computers for making engineering calculations, spreadsheets, and report writing
Demonstrable interest in developing a career in Ports & Marine Engineering

RESPONSIBILITIES
Help our clients achieve their goals
Work with the Director, CivilEngineers and Project Managers to meet KZF goals and objectives
Respond to estimated budget hour requests from Division Managers and Project Managers
Assist project managers with development of project schedules and budgets
Provide technical, project management and client management support to projects
Work directly with the Director and KZF project managers and assume the “day-to-day” responsibility of civilengineering design/production for assigned projects
Work with Project Managers to establish design parameters consistent with the project scope, schedule and budget
Prepare Civil design and construction documents in AutoCAD Civil 3D, per applicable standards
Coordinate with project managers regarding schedule and construction costs for each project scope of work
Seeking advice from the Director of CivilEngineering Services as needed
Interface with all professional disciplines assigned to the project to coordinate the CivilEngineering work
Prepare CivilEngineering design studies, written design narratives, calculations, and analysis, and direct CivilEngineering support staff as required
Research site materials and systems and select appropriate items for incorporation into the Civil design
Maintain a working knowledge of architectural, electrical, mechanical and structural systems; coordinate these systems with the Civil design
Perform conceptual planning and design and confirm the requirements of assigned projects are consistent with the project scope, schedule and budget
Prepare design documents as required for all phases of design (concept, schematic, design development and construction documents)
Direct CivilEngineering support staff as required
Prepare documents in conformance with KZF standards and quality control requirements
Prepare outline and final construction document specifications, and coordinate the work with other project specifications
Assist with and prepare construction cost estimates
Remain current with new products and tools that will assist you in better meeting our client's needs
Conduct field investigations to understand project requirements
Research and prepare building code analysis for CivilEngineering work
Maintain technical accuracy, constructability, code conformance, and appropriate level of detail for project designs
Assist in development and maintenance of civilengineering design standards, including master specifications, civil standards, drawing standard procedures, CADD standards and project documentation standards, as assigned by the Director

Requirements:
You have a P.E. license.
You have a B.S. in CivilEngineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
You have 15+ years of hands-on experience in land development and/or extensive site/civil/heavy construction project management.
You have experience with safety requirements and issues on construction sites.
You have design experience and a thorough working knowledge of contracts, safety, construction means & methods, scheduling, estimating, subcontractor management, & quality control.
Your experience in community development or residential land development is preferred.
Your experience in commercial land development, commercial construction, single-family home construction, commercial recreational construction, and/or heavy construction is a plus.
You can work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
You have excellent technical, analytical, writing and communication skills.
You are willing to travel about 20% on average.
You have a valid driver's license and the ability to drive.
You can safely climb/navigate ladders, roofs, scaffolding, etc. for inspection activities.
Prior forensic experience is not required. We seek professionals eager to apply their deep industry knowledge to a challenging new domain.
