Qualifications: Education / Experience: Graduation from an approved School of Dental Hygiene. Possession of a current Colorado license as a registered dental hygienist. Certification to administer local anesthesia. Knowledge, skills and abilities: Sensitivity to low income and ethnic minority community a must. Working knowledge of all phases of the field of dental hygiene. Skill in the techniques of oral hygiene procedures and the use of equipment, instruments, and materials. Basic computer skills required. Knowledge and practice of preventative dentistry and ability to instruct patients and staff. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and staff. Ability to work in a team environment required. Excellent coaching skills. Bilingual in Spanish preferred. Job Duties: Clinical Maintain own dental hygienist practice as defined by Peak Vista guidelines. Screening and evaluating patients in regard to caries risk, periodontal pathology, medical history. Providing clinical services, including selecting, exposing, and processing of digital radiographs, prophylaxes, supra and sub gingival scaling and curettage, root planning, procedures involving team periodontal surgical techniques, according to Peak Vista guidelines. Providing preventative clinical and educational services, including instruction of proper oral hygiene home care techniques, tooth brushing, flossing, nutrition, need for professional care, and topical fluorides. Administration of local anesthetics and gross debridement in treatment of acute periodontal conditions. Performance of expanded duties where qualified, as delegated by dentist and governed by Colorado law. Co-located Hygiene Services in Medical Clinic Primarily responsible for the initiation and maintenance of the dental prevention and dental education program in an integrated medical setting, working with both medical and dental team members for coordination. Accurately and appropriately assess caries risk, application of fluoride treatments, and dissemination of oral health education to patients, parents, and children in the medical setting in one-on-one visits or in group visits. Identification of and assistance in patient establishment of a dental home. Travel between medical and dental clinic sites may be required. Maximize community linkages while acting as advocate for patients. Exhibits positive leadership skills, actively striving to improve patient and staff experience of Peak Vista, as well as strong communication skills. Effective use of the electronic dental record (EDR), electronic medical record (EMR), registries, dental radiology, dental intraoral/extraoral imaging, and templates. Work in coordination with dentists, other dental team members, and medical team members to effectively manage patient care and develop clinical guidelines within scope of dental hygiene practice. Other Duties and Responsibilities: Maintains a safe work environment by remaining informed of and compliant with the clinic's safety policies, and in particular by application of safe practices in area of own responsibility. Compliance: o Knowledgeable of and compliant with laws and regulations governing area of responsibility. o Responsible for reporting any potentially non-compliant conduct. o Cooperates fully with our Compliance Officer in upholding our Compliance Plan. Leadership and modeling of Peak Vista values. Supervision: None Scope of Authority: Responsible for helping to create a high quality, effective dental practice that meets the needs of our target area. Progress is reviewed quarterly and results are measured and formally evaluated annually. Principal Working Relationships: All employees, managers and leadership Medical Peds Staff Patients Outside contacts such as community, other healthcare providers Materials and Equipment Directly Used: Dental materials and equipment Electronic Dental Record Computer Telephone Working Enviornment / Physical Activies: Risk of exposure to blood borne pathogens. Dental operatory and equipment as well as usual office environment with sitting, walking, standing, stooping. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * Assist the Medical Dental Integration (MDI) hygienists in chair-side procedures, and diagnostic imaging acquisition. * Responsible for preparation and setting up of instruments, materials, and equipment necessary for each procedure. * Responsible for the sterilization of instruments as necessary, and the cleaning and routine maintenance of equipment and work areas. * Assist with front desk responsibilities as needed, including, but not limited to: 1) Scheduling and recall process; 2) reception of patients and updating patient records. * Assist in processing encounters, billing and bookkeeping procedures. * Identify related medical and/or social problems. * Report inventory problems and/or supply requests to Supervisor of MDI and/or Practice Manager. * Serve as liaison between Teledental Providers and patients before, during, and after their virtual dental appointments including consultations with other service lines. * Provide or arrange for technical assistance to patients on how to navigate our Telehealth platform(s). * Provide ongoing training to staff/providers on any updates on the Teledental process and its procedures as necessary. * Provide excellent customer service at all times to all clients. * Navigation of patients and staff to appropriate virtual rooms with dentists and other provider modalities. * Post appointment communication including but not limited to treatment plan presentation, future appointment scheduling, and portal query response as necessary. * Call patients to confirm when necessary and obtain digital check-in documents prior to their appointments in accordance with Teledental Pre-Visit Check-in Protocols. * Coordinate with the dental staff the dentist's schedules for those patients that will be seen through Teledentistry. * Maintain all necessary data entry in a timely manner. * The ability to demonstrate knowledge and work with diverse populations in the community. * Serve as key component to teledental patient outreach. * Assist in completing and obtaining reports on a daily/monthly/weekly basis as to patient outreach opportunities, pre/post visit surveys, and number of Teledental services provided and follow-up requirements in and effort to meet or exceed the Telehealth programs measures/requirements. * Maintain a flexible schedule; this position may occasionally require not-traditional hours such as evenings and weekends. * Participates in Teledental PI projects. * Communicates concerns or problems with patient flow, customer service or quality assurance to Supervisor of MDI. * Assists in educating patients and with the training of new Dental Assistants. * Travels as necessary to meet operational needs. * Maintains a safe work environment by remaining informed of and compliant with the clinic's safety policies, and in particular by application of safe practices in area of own responsibility. * Compliance: Knowledgeable of and compliant with laws and regulations governing area of responsibility. Responsible for reporting any potentially non-compliant conduct. * Cooperates fully with our Compliance Officer in upholding our compliance plan. * Other duties as assigned. Additional knowledge, skills, and abilities: * Sensitivity to low income and ethnic minority community a must. * Bilingual in Spanish is preferred. * An ability to navigate videoconferencing platforms. * Skills and abilities to teach others. * Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, Word, Excel. * An ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in English; organizational and time management skills. * An ability to perform multiple tasks; good problem-solving abilities; demonstrate flexibility and positive people skills. * An ability and willingness to learn and expand abilities. * An ability to establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with patients and coworkers. Ability to work in a team environment a must. * Ability to follow oral and written instructions. * Ability to prepare and maintain charts, records, logs and reports. Supervision: None Position Reports To: Clinic Leadership/Supervisor of MDI Education/Experience: HS diploma or GED Required. Graduate from dental assistant school preferred. Dental certification required or a minimum of 3 years of experience as a chair-side Dental Assistant. X-ray certification required. Previous clinical experience in an Ambulatory Care/Primary Care setting preferred. Computer Skills: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, Word and Excel. Telehealth Platforms, Medical and Dental EMR Certificates and Licenses: Dental Certification as applicable, Xray certification, CPR, CO Drivers license (Applicants must be at least 21 years of age or older to be an eligible driver on behalf of Peak Vista).
