We have two practice locations, one in Denver and the other in Colorado Springs. This position is for our Denver location at St. Anthony hospital. Our practice is composed of six (6) cardiothoracic surgeons, one (1) dedicated thoracic surgeon, and two (2) vascular surgeons. Collectively, when fully staffed, we have ten (10) advanced practice providers in our practice who support care at our two locations.
Responsibilities include:
Caring for cardiothoracic patients in a stepdown and ICU setting, including crafting daily patient progress notes, writing consult notes, and order entry. Our program is supported by two (2) dedicated nurse practitioners who assist with daily rounding and discharge planning.
Proportional on call responsibilities with surgeon support.
Conduit harvest (endoscopic and open vein harvest and radial artery harvest).
First assist on all cardiac and minimal thoracic cases both open and minimally invasive (VATS and Robotic)

Job Description
**Please note that SHS will have an APP role opening in February/March 2026 and we are now accepting applications. The specific employment status and schedule details will be discussed during the interview process. **
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a medical staff member credentialed and privileged as a PhysicianAssistant (PA) or an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN). The APP is a member of the SHS Medical Staff practicing in accordance with the respective bylaws. The APP shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the organization's missions and goals. The APP is expected to comply with scope of practice, other laws, regulations, SHS policy, and other applicable professional standards of practice.
Function/Duties of Position
The duties of this position include:
Assessing and managing Emergency patients
Collaborate with other members of the team to communicate with and transition care back to the patient's PCP and DC patients in a timely manner.
Obtaining an H&P.
Ordering appropriate diagnostic studies and laboratory tests to aid in the diagnosis of known or suspected injuries or illnesses.
Interpreting results of diagnostic laboratory procedures.
Prescribing therapy based on clinical, radiologic, and laboratory indications.
Dictating and/or documenting patient care in a clear and concise manner.
Communicating with the Emergency Medicine attending regarding patient variations from the care plan or deterioration in patient condition.
Providing patient and family teaching regarding their disease process, follow up care, appropriate use of prescribed medication, and assessing the need for consultations and referrals.
Assessment and treatment of low to moderate acuity patients and initiating work-ups on more complex patients staffed with the attending ED Physician.
Assistance in development and use of protocols and practice guidelines.
Participating in Emergency Department quality assurance activities.
Enhancement of cost effectiveness and quality of care.
Required Qualifications:
Education: Master's Degree as required by specific Advanced Practice Provider role.
Experience: Prefer 3+ years clinical experience as an APP, preferably in setting of an Emergency Department.

Demonstrated ability to satisfy standards of performance delineated by law and associated professional practice standards, the latter set forth as an addendum to the position description.
Ability to manage heavy workload with multiple priorities and inflexible deadlines.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Proficient in the use of computing hardware and software, including personal computing equipment, electronic medical record, word processing and spreadsheet software.
Regular and consistent attendance at work.
Registrations, Certifications and/or Licenses:
Current licensure as required by specific Advanced Practice Provider governing board(s).
A qualified candidate must be a certified Nurse Practitioner or certified by the National Commission on Certification of PhysicianAssistants.
Must have a current Colorado NP or PA license prior to start date.
Must complete the credentialing process and be approved by the SHS Medical Staff to practice as an independent practitioner in an acute care/emergency setting.
Must be registered with Federal Drug Enforcement Administration and be authorized to prescribe medications according to the Colorado State Board of Nursing Formulary for Nurse Practitioners or the Colorado Medical Board PhysicianAssistant Practice Description.
ACLS, PALS required.

+ You will be expected to participate in hospital and medical group conferences, cancer committee and tumor boards, and community outreach development.
+ There will be an adjunct faculty appointment to the General Surgery Residency at Saint Joseph Hospital, and you will be expected to participate in both operative education and didactic education of residents and medical students.
+ There will be expectations of limited, after-hours General Surgery Acute Care call along with our GME faculty surgeons at Saint Joseph Hospital. There is no trauma call responsibility.
