Opening of the facility: The first student scheduled is responsible for seeing that all 'Opening Athletic Room' tasks are completed within the first 15 minutes of their arrival. Then check the dry erase board for any specific items for that day.
Whirlpools/Cold Tubs: Drain, Fill and clean at appropriate times or as directed. Clean as directed. Make sure pumps are off when not in use. Cold 55-65. Hot 102-110. ALWAYS Drain & Clean tubs at the end of the day, or as directed.
Ice Machine: Move ice mountain during your entire shift. Fill bags appropriately for injuries. Instruct athletes how to properly make bags and self-wrap, if able. Empty scoop tray water periodically.
Filing: Always check 'To Be Filed' bin and update equipment issue cards and injury files.
Restock Supplies: This includes the taping areas, jars on counters, and modality supplies. Check for supplies needed from the storage room. Make a list of supplies needed and give the list to AT staff. Do this before and after the high use times for taping (2:30-4:30pm). Keep these areas organized.
Cleaning: Regularly sweep and dust the facility, wipe down tables after each patient, wipe counters, rehab equipment, etc. as needed. Sweep and vacuum as needed. Generally, keep the facility CLEAN!! Remember this is a MEDICAL FACILITY.
Laundry: Bag laundry and take it to laundry room as needed. Fold laundry and roll wraps when laundry returns. Use in-room laundry equipment as directed only. Put all clean/folded laundry away in its proper location.
Team Medical Kits: Restock team medical kits at the beginning of each season and as needed when dropped off by coach. Take medical kit back to the coaches office after it is restocked.
Games: Be 10 to 15minutes early for game assignments. Help prepare for games as instructed. Help with all duties. No one is above the minor details. Follow instructions to help procedures run efficiently. Make sure all sports medicine items are taken out to the events and that all items return post event. Clean and dry coolers after events and return them to their proper storage place.
Taping and Treatment Tables: Tables and pillows should be cleaned on a regular basis. Pillows and other treatment articles are to be returned to their proper place after each use.
Modalities: Clean all modalities and replace parts neatly. Modalities, such as electric stim. and ultrasound, must not be used by any student if properly instructed student may set patient up ONLY staff Ats may turn on equipment.
Biohazard Materials Follow Department's Blood Borne Pathogen policy at all times. Remember when dealing with biohazard materials to wear gloves and dispose in proper container.
Rehabilitation: supervise and Instruct with cues athletes on the proper techniques of stretching and rehabilitation as well as correcting improper techniques. The student may provide cues as to the progression of assigned rehabilitation exercises.
Rules: Enforce all room rules, regulations and procedures. Each sports medicine staff member is expected set a good example of all rules and professionalism on and off the field ensuring a caring workplace free from hostility, discrimination or ridicule.
Game/Practice Preparation: Review your sport set-up sheet for both daily practice and games prior to your scheduled shift. Check with AT staff for any changes due to weather, etc. The student who is scheduled last each day should gather all the necessary supplies for the next days contests BEFORE to closing the facility for the evening.
Room Closing: The sports medicine aide scheduled last is responsible to see that all tasks on the 'Closing Athletic Room' sheet are completed before they leave.

BASIC OBJECTIVES
The school-centered PhysicalTherapist is responsible for providing physical therapy services to exceptional students. The therapist will treat individual student (s) or groups of students at one or more schools, carry out evaluations, write goals and objectives, and complete treatment plans on students. In addition the PhysicalTherapist will provide supervision to PhysicalTherapist Assistants, and will carry out duties set forth by the supervisor of the occupational and physical therapy program.
JOB TASKS/RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Conducts formalized initial evaluation of the student after referral from a physician (prescription) has been obtained. 2. Establishes realistic short-term and long-term treatment goals for the Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) based on results of physical therapy evaluation and considers all aspects of student's disability.
3. Plans and implements appropriate treatment programs designed to meet the student's needs, including specific procedures and modalities to be used; determines the extent, frequency, and expected duration of treatment based on the State of Florida physical therapy and occupational therapy reporting system; and provides yearly IEP re-evaluations of students in the physical therapy program.
4. Develops plans, as needed, or makes appropriate recommendations for modifying the classroom/school environment to accommodate the student.
5. Confers periodically via telephone, written report, or personal appointment with managing physician regarding student's status, progress, response to treatment, and possible treatment variations.
6. Shares student-status information regularly with Occupational Therapists so that they may work as a unified team in providing comprehensive care for the student.
7. Provides instruction in appropriate treatment procedures; handles techniques and supportive activities to students, teachers, paraprofessionals and family members; supplements information provided with written, descriptive instructions, when appropriate.
8. Provides families with information, encouragement, and support to help motivate them in their performance of treatment activities.
9. Prepares and keeps current all necessary records, including evaluations, progress notes and a record of communication.
10. Keeps personal physical therapy knowledge and skills current through reading and participation in educational programs.
11. Oversees the performance of assigned Licensed PhysicalTherapist Assistants (LPTA's) providing guidance, encouragement, and suggestions for implementing student's program.
12. Ensures that records (evaluations, IEP's, physician's referral) are current, that treatment program is effective, and that any questions and/or concerns of the LPTA regarding the student(s) are addressed.
13. Assumes responsibility for the co-signing of treatment summaries by the LPTA.
14. Provides information regarding equipment that would enhance treatment and serve as an adjunct to therapy.
15. Observes professional and medical ethnics consistently.
16. Coordinates maintenance of cardex file, student's daily attendance, and ensures that all physician's prescriptions and related medical data are kept current and up to date.
17. Assists in orientation and training of new department personnel.
18. Participates in DCPS inservice training programs.
19. Maintains clinic area and equipment daily including sanitizing and cleaning mats.
20. Coordinates and/or assists in preparation of materials for student use.
21. Performs related work as required or assigned by supervising administrator or designee.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This is very heavy work which requires the following physical activities: climbing, balancing, bending, stooping, crouching, crawling, twisting, reaching, sitting, standing, walking, pushing wheelchairs, pulling, lifting and positioning students, finger dexterity, grasping, feeling, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity. The work is performed indoors and outdoors.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1. The school-centered physicaltherapist must present evidence of successful completion of both academic and clinical requirements for graduation from an approved curriculum in physical therapy. 2. Current licensure as a PhysicalTherapist by Florida State Department of Professional Regulation.
3. Experience in pediatric setting is preferred.

The person in this position may work in the inpatient and/or outpatient settings. Proficient in EKG interpretation. Conducts non-invasive cardiology testing which may include stress testing, Holter monitoring, and the technical functions of the pacemaker clinic. Provides group and individual exercise therapy for patients with chronic disease. Applies EKG telemetry and accurately performs 12 lead EKGs. Performs initial assessments, develops individualized treatment plans, safely and effectively administers individual and group exercise therapies, evaluates progress, and documents outcomes on patients to improve functional capacity and to offset the detrimental effects of inactivity. Educate on disease states, recovery, smoking cessation, hypertension, diabetes, medication compliance, nutrition, lipid management and stress management. Maintains open communications with coworkers, physicians and other dept staff.

Qualifications:
* Graduate of an accredited Exercise Physiology or related program with a minimum bachelor's level preparation.
* 1 year of Cardiopulmonary Rehab experience and ACSM Certification.
* 60 hours of continuing education every 3 years required.
* Active membership in professional organization(s) preferred
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
* BLS and ACLS or a willingness to acquire both is required.

Kind of work: Under supervision of an ESE teacher, the Instructional Paraprofessional for Special Needs is assigned for at least 80% of the workday the responsibility for assisting with classroom instruction and with the maintenance of discipline and childcare needs. Other responsibilities such as additional related classroom clerical duties, cafeteria duty, etc. may be assigned for a minor portion of the workday. General requirements of this position would be that the Instructional Paraprofessional for Special Needs would be able to provide assistance in all of the areas indicated as appropriate for the Instructional Paraprofessional (Regular Needs) as adapted to the complex and individualized areas required for students with special needs.
Examples of work: Classroom Instruction - Provides assistance with individual/group tutoring in academic areas including introducing and monitoring instructional activities, monitoring testing situations, and planning for instruction with the teacher according to student's Individual Educational Programs (IEP's). Assistance may include creating and using alternative instructional materials, assistance with electronic aids such as Braille and other reader programs, tape recorders, audio readers/trainers, adapted computer programs, communication programs, etc. based on student's individual special needs. Other areas of assistance in classroom instruction might include note taking, continuous planned prompting of students to initiate/maintain/complete learning activities, and individual use of low vision/hearing aids/materials. Providing individualized communication assistance including interpretive/translation (ESOL) services, communication board assistance, Braille transcribing assistance, and other adaptive devices necessary for instructional purposes.
Classroom/Behavior Management - Provides assistance to the teacher with planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating complex individualized student behavior management programs. Assists with behavioral data collection, identifying problem behaviors and planned strategies to change behaviors according to students IEP's. May participate in social skills training activities through individual/group counseling sessions with students, role-playing activities, and structured behavioral programming assistance (proximity control, prompting, and contingencies, coaching, cuing and planned ignoring). Under supervision of certificated staff, and after completing appropriate training, may provide physical crisis intervention assistance to prevent students from hurting themselves, others, or destroying property.
Child and Health Care Needs - Provides assistance designed to support and encourage independent functioning of students, daily living assistance, self-care activities, physical and occupational therapy assistance, orientation and mobility assistance and assistance with student safety according to students IEP's. Examples of this might include assistance with lifting, positioning, diapering, feeding, and physical restraint of individual students. The paraprofessional who has received appropriate training may assist with monitoring student's health status, assistance with prosthetic devices, student mobility training, and helping students with self-monitoring health care activities (catheterization, blood glucose monitoring, skin care for braces, etc).
