This position is responsible for the efficient performance of required duties conforming to the rules, regulations, and general orders contained herein. Duties shall consist of, but are not limited to, general police responsibilities necessary to the safety and good order of the community.
A police officer shall:
Identify criminal offenders and criminal activity and, where appropriate, apprehend offenders and participate in subsequent court proceedings.
Reduce the opportunities for crime commission through preventive patrol and other measures.

Facilitate the movement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
Identify potentially serious law enforcement or governmental problems.

The police officer position is non-supervisory. Police officer duties are performed on an assigned shift under the general guidance of the Police Chief and designees.
Essential Functions:
All officers will be required to work shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as assigned. Shift assignments are subject to rotation based on departmental needs and staffing levels.
Enforce institutional rules, regulations, and laws regarding student conduct as defined in the Student Handbook.
Enforce regulations concerning parking, blocking, or impeding traffic.
Issue traffic tickets, summons, warrants, and arrest warrants.
Enforce institutional rules relative to vehicle identification and parking permits.
Enforce criminal and traffic laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia within the jurisdiction of authority.
Maintain a professional law enforcement image at all times. Provide consistent law enforcement, dealing with each occurrence in the same professional manner.
Pursue additional police training.
File patrol reports after each shift.
To be knowledgeable of all security systems for the Ferrum College campus, including security cameras and alarm systems, as well as the operational procedures of each.
Function as a team member of the Student Affairs Office in the development and implementation of processes necessary to accomplish the goals and philosophy of the Student Affairs Office and the College.
Assume special responsibilities on assignment by the Chief of Police and his/her designee, the VP of Operations, or the President.
Engage the campus community in crime and safety prevention.
Conduct full investigations on cases.
Conducting foot patrols in and around academic buildings to identify and address security and safety issues.
Foot patrols in and around occupied as well as unoccupied dorm buildings to check for security and safety issues.
Minimum Qualifications:
Certified in the State of Virginia as Police Officer; knowledge in community policing techniques; general knowledge of the rules of evidence and laws of search and seizure; ability to deal effectively with young adults; ability to analyze evidence; ability to properly question and interview individuals; ability to organize and prepare clear and concise oral and written reports; skilled in the use of firearms and police equipment; possession of physical ability and endurance; ability to establish effective working relationships with students, parents, school officials, fellow workers and the public. Seasonal Visit Coordinator
$20 per hour job in Ferrum, VA
The Visit Coordinator work collaboratively with enrollment staff, campus constituents, and the community. This position processes timesheet approval, and recruits, hires, trains with assistance as needed. Coordinates daily tour coverage. This position supports the office administratively. In addition to project responsibilities, the Visit Coordinator welcomes students and families to the office and provides information about office programming, campus events, and general information about the campus community, admission, and the community of Ferrum and other surrounding communities.
Manages the Admissions phone and overall visit experience.
Manages Admissions email.
Responsible for main campus switchboard.
Supports the office administratively.

Schedule Admission Ambassadors for tours.
Assist in managing day-to-day scheduling needs via scheduling software, email, and phone.
Supervise student workers for Office of Admissions.
Coordinate and manage visit events and all daily student visits with assistance as needed.
Manage Student Employment recruiting, hiring, scheduling, and timesheet approval for Office of Admissions.
Partner with the Student Employment Office to ensure all processes and procedures are in place for the student office assistants.
Oversee the scheduling of group tours including school groups, partner, and community-based organizations.
Support in the scheduling of events and visits in Wufoo and Recruit.
Organize the residence hall show rooms.
This position includes some evenings and weekends.
Ensures an excellent visit experience by preparing and giving presentations (as a back-up to the admission counseling staff) stocks brochures and shelves.
Assists in the interviewing, selection, and scheduling of Admission Ambassadors; keeps ambassadors updated on new information to be passed along to visitors; ensures ambassadors have well-maintained shirts, business cards, and nametags.
Additional Responsibilities: The role may include other duties as assigned to support the overall operations and mission of the College. Flexibility and adaptability are essential, as responsibilities may evolved based on institutional needs.

Minimum Qualifications
Associate degree required
