Demonstrates an ability to retrieve information and effectively communicate responses to requests for information that do not require a pharmacist. Able to differentiate what does and does not require the involvement of a pharmacist. Demonstrates an ability to troubleshoot problem orders or other issues and questions in eRecord. Knowledgeable concerning pharmacy regulatory requirements and compliance with accreditation standards. Participates in Joint Commission readiness and other regulatory/compliance activities. This is done in conjunction with the Training Specialist for the area of supervision, if applicable. Assures accurate and timely documentation of all training experiences. Establishes a process for on-going and timely evaluation of progress of new employees during the technician training process. Coordinates with supervisors in other functional areas to assure adequate cross training is completed and competencies maintained. Assures all training materials are maintained and up-to-date for area of primary responsibility. Establishes competency assessments for area of primary responsibility and a schedule for documentation of continuing competency for existing pharmacy technicians. Identifies areas of quality, regulatory or operational improvement, and develops proposals relative to process improvement for presentation to the relevant pharmacy manager. Works with the pharmacy manager to implement process improvements in the area of primary responsibility. Personnel Management: Establishes a team schedule that is available to all members of the team within departmental expectations of timeliness. This schedule will need to be developed in coordination with other technician supervisors to assure adequate cross-coverage to meet minimum staffing needs in all areas. Frequent interaction (e.g. daily check-in) with pharmacy managers and other technician supervisors to assure staffing is meeting minimum requirements in all areas of the department and maintain daily workload. When short-staffing situations exist adjust staff accordingly to ensure adequate and timely coverage. Establishment and maintenance of positive team dynamics among the pharmacy technician staff through regularly scheduled meetings and communications about team performance, process improvement and overall team accomplishments. Responsible for holding general technician meetings throughout the year to discuss relevant concerns and needs. Manages issues and conflicts that emerge in a timely and professional manner to quickly and effectively resolve problems that may disrupt team dynamics. Seek assistance from departmental leadership and HR professionals early in the process, as needed. Serves as liaison between technician and pharmacy leadership. Bring ideas from staff that relate to process improvement and safety to leadership. Support down pharmacy policies and initiatives. (Work on from above) Manages the interview and hiring decision process for pharmacy technicians, adhering to all university policies relevant to the interview and hiring process. Collaborates with leadership, as needed. Conducts performance evaluations of direct reports in accordance with university and departmental expectations and policies. This includes new hire evaluations during the introductory period, annual performance evaluations, and interim evaluations of performance as needed. Responsible for completing employee evaluations. Seeks feedback from the relevant pharmacy manager, as needed. Monitors time and attendance of direct reports. Maintains time and attendance documentation appropriately based on area of work. When necessary, conducts progressive discipline up to and including termination decisions. All decisions related to progressive discipline will be in concert with the relevant pharmacy manager, associate director of pharmacy operations, and HR business partner. Promotes employee engagement and supports employee retention efforts. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree preferred. 3 years of acute hospital pharmacy experience as a pharmacy technician, or relevant management experience in the health care setting preferred. Or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Demonstrates an aptitude and ability to effectively provide leadership and direction to coworkers required. Be of good moral character including application of IICARE values required. Certification from a nationally accredited pharmacy technician certification program (Currently PTCB) and maintain ongoing education requirements required. Able to effectively work in all areas of Nuclear Medicine including Radiopharmacy, Quality Control and therapies. 25% Translates Nuclear Medicine electronic orders to verify patient name, date and appropriate exam. 25% Ensures proper imaging techniques related to patients age and ability to understand procedure (sight, hearing needs, ability to cooperate) to ensure image quality is successfully obtained. Career Ladder: The three bands within this position are differentiated by level of independence, supervision required, ability to precept new employees in the use of all equipment, and the ability to lead and meet established departmental goals. Band One: Entry Level Nuclear Medicine Technologist - Technologists new to URMC Nuclear Medicine Imaging Department who require training as well as regular direct supervision or guidance from a more senior technologist. This generally involves orientation to the Departments infrastructure, policies, protocols, workflows, procedures and routines. During this period the Technologists must demonstrate an ability to progress towards proficient and competent performance of required tasks of a Nuclear Medicine Technologist. Success within this band requires independent responsibility for performing Nuclear Medicine studies in a safe and efficient manner, completing all associated paper and computer documentation while providing high quality images for radiologist interpretation. Band Two: Competent Nuclear Medicine Technologist - With minimal supervision, demonstrates proficiency, consistency and competence in all aspects of job responsibilities and expectations. Able to work with student technologists to sign off on their required competencies while rotating through UR Imaging. Demonstrates consistent attention to detail when performing all imaging exams. Completes all associated paper and computer work for discharging patients from the Nuclear Medicine department with appropriate post procedure instructions. Additional duties may include working on special projects, such as new equipment evaluations and assisting in the design of areas where clinical equipment will be installed, or assignment to departmental committees. Band Two requires a minimum of 18 months of progressively responsible professional work experience as a Nuclear Medicine specialist in a clinical or hospital environment, with at least 6 months dedicated to the URMC Imaging Sciences Department Band Three: Advanced Nuclear Medicine Technologist - In addition to the responsibilities of a Nuclear Medicine Technologist Band Two, serves as a preceptor in the onboarding of newly hired Technologists directly orienting to equipment, imaging routines and procedures, computer programs and software, as well as departmental and hospital policies. Directly assists in the mentoring of newer Technologists by providing one-on-one assistance in conjunction with the Supervisor. Possesses subject matter expertise in several different areas of nuclear Medicine that could include, but not limited to diagnostic and therapeutic exams and clinical trials, and competently operating a variety of different vendor platforms and performing departmental QA procedures. Responsible for effectively troubleshooting issues that arise within the department and deal with accordingly. A Band Three technologist is considered a subject matter expert in downtime procedures and acts as super-user when new equipment or programs are introduced to the department. Assists in other areas of the department when the need arises such as assignments to other Nuclear Medicine sites outside of the main department. Able to represent the department on various committees such as safety, quality, and operations groups. Takes responsibility to prepare the department and staff for NYS and TJC evaluations. Assists in advanced radiopharmaceutical regulatory policies, special radiopharmaceutical ordering, advanced radiopharmaceutical treatments and clinical trials. Assists in all aspects of ACR accreditation as well as ACR readiness. Facilitates new policies and procedures to staff. Serves as a resource to the supervisors for special projects as assigned. Select Band Three Technologists may be designated as Leads to support operations on various shifts. Leads may either assist their shift supervisor, or in the absence of a supervisor, determine workflow and staff schedule/assignments. Leads may also provide performance evaluation input to the section supervisor. Band Three status minimally requires 4 years of progressively responsible professional work experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist in a clinical or hospital environment with 1 year dedicated to the URMC Imaging Sciences Department preferred. To be eligible for advancement consideration, technologist must be in good standing. Readiness for movement in the bands is assessed by the Nuclear Medicine Manager and supervisor upon successful demonstration of knowledge and task proficiency as defined in the career ladder. Movement to a higher band is based on departmental need requires final approval from the Imaging Sciences Clinical Director of Operations in collaboration with Human Resources. Employees hired externally with appropriate credentials and relevant experience may enter the career bands as a Band Three to serve in a Lead role if the need exists within the department.
