Shelter Worker Our Saviour's Community Services (OSCS) provides dignified shelter and housing for single adults, and basic education classes to adult English language learners in the Phillips Community of South Minneapolis. OSCS takes its name from Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, which founded our programs in the early 1980s. In 2004, we became a legally and financially independent nonprofit. We are not a religious organization. The shelter provides a bed, three meals a day, and supportive resources to 10 men and 11 women every night of the year. However, people of all genders are welcome. The shelter is currently open to residents 24/7. The program will transition to a medical respite shelter. Our cohesive team works together to provide services that offer dignity and hope. JOB SUMMARY: Assists nursing staff in providing care for patients in accordance with identified treatment plans. Measures vital signs patients and monitors the health of patients. Assists patients with everyday needs. Communicates with nursing supervisors, nursing staff, and clinical staff regarding patients' treatment and status. Records treatment activities and patient observations in patient records accurately and timely; completes paperwork requirements as needed in an accurate and timely manner. Provides support to nursing staff as needed for medical emergencies (i.e., convulsions, suicides, Delirium Tremens, etc.). Adheres to Valley Hope's medical philosophies, policies, and procedures as well as any other regulating bodies to ensure quality patient care. Transports patients as needed. Maintains a safe and sanitary environment applying infection control techniques and universal precautions. Perform blood collections by venipuncture and capillary techniques on patients as directed. Completes waived testing as assigned. Adheres to all policies and procedures regarding patient information protection and HIPPA. Maintains and demonstrates a current working knowledge of applicable medical procedures and nursing care based on company policy and State and Federal guidelines. Adheres to Valley Hope's philosophies, policies, and procedures as well as any other regulating bodies to ensure quality patient care. Participates in all assigned staff meetings, staff development, and training as required. As a Self-Direction Specialist, you will provide skills training to those individuals who are choosing to be 'employers' by self-directing their own services. Self-direction is designed to ensure that those with disabilities receiving care in their home are empowered to make decisions about the services they receive and the individuals who provide them. Persons with disabilities maintain the right and responsibility to choose that the services and supports they are receiving are meeting their individual needs. Self-Direction Specialists assist these individuals with each phase, from understanding the initial enrollment process, to helping navigate the state/federal systems, and ensuring they are getting the most from all available services. Self-Direction Specialists offer ongoing supports as needed to these self-directing 'employers'. They keep them informed of all resources available to them, and work to ensure the highest quality of services is being offered and delivered.
