GENERAL SUMMARY Independently performs a variety of diagnostic laboratory tests in the Clinical Laboratory to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease. Performs venipunctures and capillary draws on Inpatients, Emergency Room patients, and Outpatients as needed. FUNCTIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Demonstrates the knowledge, skills and ability to perform a variety of laboratory tests in a timely manner yielding accurate and precise results with a low error rate. Ability to appropriately troubleshoot and resolve problems. Ensures that patient results are not reported until systems are functioning properly. Clearly communicates resolutions or next steps. Possesses solid knowledge, skills and theory to perform job duties in the clinical laboratory. Performs and evaluates quality control and instrument function checks using established quality control practices to assess the functioning of the test system(s). Identifies when a QC problem exists and is able to troubleshoot and resolve issues in a timely manner. ## Operates and maintains laboratory equipment according to established laboratory procedures and/or manufacturers recommendations, including maintaining supplies. Identifies when sample, instrument, and/or procedural problems exists and takes appropriate actions to remedy the issue. Is able to appropriately troubleshoot problems and communicate resolutions or next steps. Orients and trains new laboratory staff. Trains bench personnel when new procedures or systems are put into routine use. Trains MLS or MLT/CLT students in bench procedures, basic theory, and advanced skills. Helps develop teaching and training tools. Actively participates in the Dartmouth Health member#s laboratory continuing education program. Assist in outpatient/in-patient phlebotomies, specimen processing, non-patient registration, and requisition checks, as needed. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to determine phlebotomy technique appropriate for the age and condition of the patient. Assisting Residents with clothing and laundry needs as per the service plan.
Supervise or assist Residents with activity programs.
Assisting Residents in going to bed at night, when necessary.
Assisting Residents with keeping their units neat, clean and orderly.
Answering emergency calls and attending to the Residents needs promptly.
All MAs/LMNAs/MTs are required to participate in the community's regularly scheduled on-going in- service training programs. Upon request of the Resident Care Director, MAs/LMNAs/MTs shall participate in specialized staff training programs and mandatory education requirements dictated by state regulations.
Assists with escorting residents to meals and activities as needed.
Documents both scheduled and unscheduled service that are provided, including incidents, behaviors, and out of the ordinary events, including a residents refusal of services. Inputs information in to the community computer tracking system regarding services provided to residents.
Conducts and facilitates programming, including therapeutic groups and individual interaction, that offer cognitive stimulation, socialization, physical activity and spiritual connection.

The Medical Laboratory Scientist I, in their role as Testing Personnel as defined by CLIA, are responsible for specimen processing, test performance and for reporting waived and non-waived test results. Under general supervision, each individual performs only those tests that are authorized by the laboratory manager and require a degree of skill commensurate with the individual's education, training or experience, and technical abilities.
Essential Functions
-As outlined by CLIA, after successful completion of orientation, training and competency assessment on all instruments/methods applicable to their role:
-Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.
-Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples.
-Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.
-Follow the laboratory's established corrective action policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance.
-Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the general supervisor, technical consultant, technical supervisor, clinical consultant or director
-Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
