The Amazon Web Services (AWS) Infrastructure Supply Chain and Procurement team is responsible for the end-to-end supply chain delivery of capacity to AWS Data Centers. AWS Infrastructure is looking for a talented, driven, and highly analytical, Broker Operations Manager with demonstrated experience driving process improvement. This Manager will be responsible for on-going broker operations management and strategic development of the next generation of customs operations and expansion for Amazon Web Services. This role will manage vendor(s) critical to the successful fulfillment of hardware to AWS data centers in North and South America. Achieving such aspirational goals will require this individual to insist on the highest standards, develop and iterate on new processes, and drive continuous improvement activities internally and externally.
Key job responsibilities
A successful candidate will have operational background in brokerage operations and extensive experience in complex project management
- Interface with cross internal and external functional partners to identify and rectify any information/process gaps during the export/import process
- Coordinate end-to-end global customs broker management for country assessments and local compliance criteria
- Drive trade planning and execution management for AWS sites and new programs
- Manage brokers and clearance processes in existing and expanding locations.
- Analyze trends related to import/export processing requirements to identify process improvements
- Drive automation efforts
- Prepare and give detailed data-driven business reviews to senior management, focused on improving service level and associated impacts
About the team
The AWS Cloud Logistics (ACL) Brokerage Team is responsible for managing customs brokers and 3rd party Importer of Record (IOR) providers who process imports for AWS datacenters, offices, EDGE sites, and customer locations worldwide. These activities include but are not limited to onboarding new customs brokers and 3rd party IORs by establishing rates and KPIs (Key Performance Indicators), setting and ensuring providers meet agreed upon Service Level Agreements (SLA), mitigating customs brokerage delays, and finding ways to streamline AWS' import operations.

BUSINESS UNIT MANAGER POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for leading the San Diego Business Unit for the Gas Turbine Fuel Systems Division and meeting objectives as identified by the Corporation's WIN Strategy. Manages the profit and loss (P&L) and asset performance of the San Diego Business Unit. Develops world-class manufacturing operations through the use of automation, documented processes, demand-flow technologies, and an empowered team of employees to continuously meet customer expectations. Maintains close contact with customers to gain insight into their needs as well as general market requirements for the business unit's products.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Profitably grow the San Diego Business Unit consistently and annually.
Works with current and potential customers to promote and leverage company technologies, systems, products and services.
Establishes and maintains premier customer service. Leads by example.
Leads strategy deployment for the business unit concentrating on Lean Initiatives, Strategic Pricing and Strategic Procurement. Leads Operating, Manufacturing, Engineering, Information Technology, Human Resources, Lean Accounting, Planning, Sales/Marketing, and New Product Development functions to ensure operational efficiency and economy.
Accountable for driving Lean Initiatives, Strategic Procurement and Strategic Pricing initiatives throughout the operation to ensure they are fully embraced and implemented.
Develops a budget plan and manages the business unit within budget constraints.
Maintains familiarity with competitive environment within geographical area of responsibility.
Represents the operation at the Business Unit and Division levels.
Provides leadership by promoting team concepts, coaching, counseling, retaining, mentoring, training, talent management, and individual development.
Drives a culture of accountability and results through strategy deployment and effective performance management.
Ensures that the business unit conform to local, state and federal government regulations.
Promotes business unit within industry, manufacturing, trade associations and local community.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Bachelor's degree in a technical or business discipline; MBA is preferred
5-10 years related experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment
Excellent knowledge of management and marketing principles, industry practices, company and competitor products, technology, and service capabilities.
Knowledge of business and operational processes; proposal development, contract negotiations, and program management. May require knowledge of international budgeting and acquisition processes and procedures.
Demonstrated ability to lead people and obtain results through others typically acquired through ten or more years of increasing experience and responsibility including prior leadership and/or program management role.
Demonstrated ability to organize and manage multiple priorities using effective problem solving / resolution skills and a team focus.

The base salary range for this role is influenced by several factors, including work location, job-related skills and experience, relevant education, training or certifications, and other business needs. For this position, the target base salary is $165K to $175K.

Job Responsibilities:
Lead day-to-day operations of the Manufacturing Engineering team, ensuring successful execution across products and programs
Foster technical excellence by guiding the team and developing expertise in core manufacturing disciplines
Drive strategic initiatives aligned with business goals and the Annual Operating Plan
Supporting prototype and NPI builds
Participate in design and production readiness reviews
Technical writing to include work instructions, functional test procedures, standard operating procedures, change impact analyses, and other documentation
Develop team capabilities through mentorship, cross-training, and career growth planning
Ensure accountability for high-quality output and on-time delivery of project milestones
Collaborate with Chief Engineer, Operations, Program Management, and Technical Project Managers to meet delivery and quality targets
Proactively address challenges and implement course corrections to meet business objectives
Oversee vendor and subcontractor relationships to ensure budget adherence, quality standards, and timely results
Required Qualifications:
Typically requires a minimum of 6+ years' experience in manufacturing engineering and 3+ years of manufacturing management experience
Bachelor of Science degree, preferably in manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or industrial engineering
Strong background in process improvements and root cause analysis (e.g. 5 Whys, 8D, and Lean Six Sigma etc.)
Experience working within a matrixed organizational structure
Ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
Expertise in microelectronics packaging processes, including wire bond, die bond, solder reflow, flip chip, SMT, and wafer processing
Demonstrated success supporting proposal development for Department of Defense (DoD) contracts
