Job Description
**LOCATION** : Lancaster, PA
**HOURS** : Full-Time, 1.0 FTE. This position will require the ability to work during varied shifts, including off shifts, throughout the standard Monday to Friday workweek.

+ Under the direction of the Nurse Manager, the Assistant Nurse Manager assesses, plans, implements and evaluates the delivery of patient care, and provides input into the development and evaluation of patient care. Patient care customer service includes care service to patients customers in the following age groups: neonatal birth to 30 days , pediatric 30 days through 12 years , adolescent 13 through 18 years , adult 19 through 64 years , and geriatric 65 years and above .

+ Assists the Nurse Manager in the preparation and control of unit budgets.
+ Communicates regularly with the Nurse Manager with regard to the progress of daily activities, specific patient concerns or events requiring administrative assistance.
+ Assumes role of patient advocate.

+ Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse is required, issued by the PA State Board of Nursing.
+ Bachelor of Science in Nursing BSN or higher level nursing degree is required.
+ Three 3 to Five 5 years of clinical experience in a related clinical field.
+ One 1 year of leadership experience.

**LOCATION:** Lancaster, PA - Lancaster General Hospital
**HOURS:** Full Time (40 hours per week). Evenings. Four 10-hour shifts, or five 8-hour shifts per week.
This is a fast-paced 52 bed unit for both medical and surgical patients needing short-term care. As an extension of the ED, patients have an anticipated discharge of about 24-48 hours; enough time to receive treatments and procedures before being discharged. Top diagnoses in the Observation Unit include chest pain, Afib, TIA/CVA, CHR, asthma/COPD, vertigo, AFR/electrolyte abnormalities, syncope, hypoglycemia/hyperglycemia, and pre/post procedure (i.e. cardiac cath, OR, pacer, ablation, etc.). The unit requires strong assessment and critical thinking skills as a patient's condition can change quickly.

Summary:

Unit Description:
·Postpartum unit is located on 4/5/6 Preston at Pennsylvania Hospital. There is a complement of 18 private patient rooms on each of the three connected floors. The newborn observation area on 5 Preston provides transitional and time-out care to term, healthy newborns, as well as, care to boarder babies requiring additional therapies authorized to be done in the term nursery. There is emphasis on the support and care of the breastfeeding mother using Baby Friendly standards as the foundation of care. The unit emphasizes teaching and incorporates familial support in areas such as infant care, car seat safety and breastfeeding.
·Patient care needs are assessed and met through a multidisciplinary team approach utilizing the Relationship Based Care Model. Patient care needs are determined collaboratively by the healthcare team and patient. Individual birth plans and specific needs are managed individually while providing a standard of care that supports the family unit. Nursing staff, with the support of Lactation Consultants, handle routine and complex breastfeeding issues through individual consultation, class, support groups and warmline responses. Written literature and individual direct demonstration are provided to ensure that family needs and concerns are addressed. Although located on three separate floors this is one continuous unit and staff function as one unit.

Summary:

The Intensive Care Nursery is a 50-bed level 3 intensive care unit that specializes in the care of premature and critically ill infants. As part of the largest delivery service in Philadelphia, this busy unit cares for infants who require both long term and transitional care. The staff on this unit primarily care for infants who were born prematurely however other diagnosis include but are not limited to: hypoglycemia, sepsis, respiratory distress, neonatal abstinence syndrome and delayed neonatal transitions. Within the Intensive Care Nursery is a 9-bed level 2 transitional nursery that cares for lower acuity patients who are focused on gaining weight and improving feeding skills so that they can be safely discharged. The complexity of the patients on our unit requires a patient ratio of 1:1 or 1:4 depending on the acuity.
The Intensive Care Nursery is a collaborative environment that uses the skill and expertise from a variety of disciplines to provide the highest level of care in a family-centered environment. + The Department of OBGYN is seeking a dynamic Clinical Nurse APP Manager who is energized by change, highly motivated and is seeking an opportunity to maintain direct patient contact. This position is designed to be 40% administrative and 60% clinical. 6 Cathcart is a complex 43 bed medical-surgical unit at Pennsylvania Hospital that provides the highest quality of care to its patients. 4 Cathcart also achieves outcomes that exceed national benchmarks in quality, employee engagement and patient satisfaction through a strong interdisciplinary team approach.
Surgical service lines include Colorectal, Urology, Gynecology, Otorhinolaryngology and General Surgery. While a majority of our patient volume is surgery, we also care for general medicine patients. RN patient assignments are most frequently 3-5:1, depending on the overall acuity of the assignment, which is measured by our acuity scale. LG Health Physicians Family and Maternity Medicine is seeking a Nurse Supervisor to join our team. Our group is comprised of 9 family physicians all serving as faculty members in the Family and Community Medicine Residency program as well as 3 APPs. We serve an economically, racially, and culturally diverse population with a greater than 50% Medicaid population. Our scope of practice is full spectrum family medicine from obstetrics care to virtually any procedure within primary care to MAT for substance use disorders. We serve patients across the lifespan and many of our family medicine physicians deliver babies at WBH. Because the majority of the group is comprised of teachers of family medicine, there is a true culture of learning and creativity which pushes us all to practice the most evidenced based medicine and continually improve.

Ensures that all ordered laboratory and diagnostic tests are tracked and logged, and that the provider is presented with all test results.
Pre-visit planning with provider and care team
Medication administration, including injections.
Check vital signs, height, weight
Assist with reviewing medication history and updating medication list.
May assist with satisfaction of pertinent health maintenance requirements.
Assists providers during procedures and examinations, and performs instrument and room clean-up.
Utilizes standard precautions. Complies with CHS Policies; Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards; Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) regulations; and The Joint Commission (TJC), Division of Facility Services (DFS), and other Regulatory Agency standards as applicable to the practice.
Reports patient's condition and reaction to the provider following procedures, medication administration, or treatments.
Assists with patient inquiries for prescription refills, appointment scheduling, and referral authorization as needed.
Participates in electronic documentation of care at the direction of the provider.
May enter orders in EMR (computerized physician order entry CPOE) per provider order.
Completes Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) approved waived laboratory tests and practice-specific diagnostic testing; including Point of Care testing for Hemoglobin A1C and other Point of Care testing as applicable. Adheres to CLIA standards. Performs Quality Control and maintenance for Point of Care in-office lab procedures, as applicable.
Performs venipuncture. May be required to assist with collection of specimens of body fluids such as urine and blood for laboratory testing. Completes lab requisitions and prepares specimens for pick-up.
Provides patient with Depart Summary and review at the end of the visit.
Responsible for all vaccine and pharmaceutical orders including North Carolina Immunization Registry (NCIR) and South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SC DHEC) regulations and monitoring inventory level of clinical supplies specific to the practice setting.
Physical Requirements
Work consistently requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling. Must be able to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Possible exposure to communicable diseases. Must speak, read, and write Basic English fluently. Intact senses of sight, hearing, smell, and touch. Manual finger dexterity.
Education, Experience and Certifications
Licensed Practical Nurse with current license to practice in NC or SC (dependent on the practice's physical location) required. Graduate of an Accredited School of practical nursing required. Previous medical office experience preferred. Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS cert required. Prefers at least 1 year working in an outpatient medical or pediatric office.
